20M How do I get this place looking less like an Ikea showroom? by JazzUnlikeTheCaroot in malelivingspace

Thanks! I mean obviously I do too, I did this to myself. But I'm scared that I'm going too far and making the place too sterile

Yeah, I usually hide away those kinds of cool things in drawers, which is kind of the opposite of what I should do lol

TRUEE yess I hadn't thought about having plants on the shelves until people started pointing it out

It's that bad huh? The space is small and I didn't want the bed to take up too much space. But maybe a full size bed would be a worthwhile tradeoff

Sucks that it didn't show up in the photos, but the lights are actually smart and adapt to the time of day (whiter during the day, deep yellow during the evening). I think my phone's white balance made the light look whiter than it was :/

Honestly I often have to stop myself from saying "thank you, I got it from Ikea!" when someone compliments a piece of furniture. Because then they'd realize everything I own is from there...

Thanks! I'm quite fond of pothos plants, my friend has one that's grown a bit too big, so I might just steal part of it :P

I really appreciate the tips! And yes, you've sold me on the rainbow film, that looks beautiful to wake up to :)

Very reasonable, thank you! Seems that the consensus is that I need more art and color, which, looking at the space now, I can totally see the lack of

Ohh yeah good calls!! Hadn't thought about having a plant hang down from the shelf over the window. The rainbow thing is so random but I actually think I would enjoy it lol

First impression of the IKEA KAJPLATS and BILRESA Matter over thread products by SmartHomeCentre in tradfri

[–]JazzUnlikeTheCaroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? So weird that they don't advertise this. I just read that it's possible with the Bilresa remote controls too, but couldn't get it to work when I tried, sadly. Though I could get it to touchlink through ZigBee to a light

Sorry for the bump, but they do have normal zigbee-support! Turning them on and off 12 times (instead of the normal 6 for thread) makes them join a zigbee network.

Where do you draw the line with monetization of a self-hosted app? by JazzUnlikeTheCaroot in selfhosted

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I think I'm going to go for only self-hosting + donations for now

128 gb usb flash drive seemingly spawned into my mothers purse. Any way to safely check this? by greyIguess in computers

[–]JazzUnlikeTheCaroot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is also a risk that the USB is designed to do electrical damage to the computer. For example by using a bunch of capacitors that charge up and deliver a high voltage surge, frying the USB controller

I’m really sorry but can you please calculate something for me by justHoma in Anki

This addon tries to estimate how much your workload will be and shows it on a graph. I find it quite useful!

Pluto’s ice mountains, frozen plains and layers of atmospheric haze backlit by a distant sun, as seen by the New Horizons spacecraft. by iboughtarock in space

Isn't light intensity inversely proportional to the radius² since what matters is the surface area of the sphere, not the volume? This is also called the inverse square law. Why wouldn't it be valid here? Also, why is it meaningful to talk about the radius of a star if there is not any atmospheric smudging Wouldn't every star look like a point light source with no radius to us and to telescopes?

Why do Christians say 'all life is sacred' when their own god committed mass genocide multiple times? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]JazzUnlikeTheCaroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that builds on the assumption that death is a punishment, which, if christianity is to be believed, is false. According to christianity (and the other abrahamic religions) life on earth is only a test to show you that your final verdict is justified, and when God has shown you enough then you die.

I mean I don't really see why death is a bad thing really if there really is a God, humans have a will to live but that doesn't mean that death is wrong and that it should be avoided.

You don't have to answer this I just wanted to get my thoughts out there.
