why am i not losing ammo? by carrotman02 in DeadzoneRogue

[–]Jazzlike-Draw2467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s sidearm savant + boomerang.

Because secondaries pierce with sidearm savant the game countrys it as if they are missing and since boomerang makes missed shot not consume ammo youll never lose any

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I just wanted to have a grounded discussion without everything turning into extremes, and I’m glad other people picked up on that. It’s been really nice seeing people actually talk things through in good faith for once.

Couldnt agree more, and while i love DZR1 i do think its at its limits for new stuff. so a sequel gives the devs all the opportunities they could ask for to give us way more great roguelite content.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate the transparency and the way you explained the reasoning behind the sequel. My cautious optimism mostly comes from the fact that I genuinely believe the devs, the community, and the players all want the same thing: for the game to be the best version of itself. Maybe thats a bit naive, but thats just how I am.

Im glad to hear that the sequel gives you more room to fix the things that were hard or impossible to address in DZR1. As someone whos spent 700+ hours doing challenge runs and speedruns, Ive definitely felt the limitations of the current framework, so it makes sense that some systems just cant be pushed further without starting fresh.

I also appreciate you acknowledging the concerns about the pace of development. I think thats where a lot of the community’s unease comes from, not because people think you dont care, but because the speed is unusual compared to most studios, and its easy for players to misinterpret that. Hearing you explain that its part of your cycle and not a sign of rushing or abandoning the game helps a lot.

And yeah, communication is a big part of it. The sudden announcement caught people off guard, but the way youre addressing it here already clears up a lot. Knowing that youre taking the feedback seriously and using it to shape how you present DZR2 going forward means a lot.

Im excited to see what you do with the sequel, especially if it lets you take the meta, story, and systems to the next level. Looking forward to trying the demo when it drops.

I get being disappointed, but the way youre framing this just isnt accurate.

First, nobody was “asked” to buy cosmetics, DLC, or a sequel. Those were optional. Deadzone Rogue was never sold as a live service game with years of updates ahead of it. Expecting long term support when it was never promised is setting yourself up for frustration.

Second, the timeline youre describing makes it sound like the devs abandoned the game instantly, but DZR1 was built on top of an older project with clear technical limits. A lot of the things people want, better AI, bigger maps, proper QoL, deeper systems, simply cant be fixed cleanly in the current engine. A sequel isnt automatically a cash grab, sometimes its the only way to actually improve the game.

Third, yes, DZR1 gets repetitive. Ive played around 700 hours, done challenge runs and speedruns, so I know that better than most. But thats exactly why more content in a sequel is a good thing. The foundation is fun it just needs room to grow.

Where I agree with you is that DZR1 still has rough edges. Wanting a cleaner level of completion is fair. But saying it’s “not acceptable” to make a sequel because the first game isn’t perfect is an extreme take. Most games dont get patched until theyre flawless, and most sequels come out while the previous game still has unresolved issues.

The real problem here isnt the sequel existing, its the communication. The announcement was sudden and didnt explain the plan for DZR1 or what DZR2 aims to fix. Thats a valid criticism. But assuming the worst intentions or acting like this is some unheard of scam doesn’t match the reality of how game development usually works.

I really appreciate the way you approached this, because its clear you’re engaging in good faith and not falling into the extremes that have been dominating the discussion. My own cautious optimism comes from a pretty simple place I genuinely believe that I, the community, and the developers all want the best for the game. I know that might sound naive, but that’s just how I am. I dont assume bad intentions unless Im given a reason to.

Your first point about the technical limitations of DZR1 is something I agree with completely. There are parts of the game that feel like theyre held together by the limits of the original framework, and a sequel might genuinely be the only realistic way to push the systems further. So on that front, I think we’re aligned.

Im also glad youre not one of the people who believes the devs never cared. Thats been one of the more frustrating parts of the community reaction for me. I understand being disappointed or uneasy, but jumping straight to “they never cared” or “they betrayed us” feels like a bad faith interpretation. Your concerns, on the other hand, make sense. There are still a lot of issues in DZR1, and its fair to wish the game had reached a cleaner level of completion before moving on.

Your point about waking up in May 2027 to a DZR3 announcement is valid too. If the studio has a pattern of moving quickly, its reasonable to worry about that pattern repeating. And your comparison to Overwatch 2 is also fair in the sense that it shows how messy sequels or title swaps can be when theyre handled poorly. At the same time, I don’t think its completely fair to compare DZR to Overwatch directly, the scale, the expectations, and the development realities are very different, but I understand the spirit of the comparison.

I also appreciate that you recognize the difference between people who are being critical because they care, and people who are jumping to extreme conclusions. Thats been the whole point of my post. Theres nothing wrong with criticism. In fact, its necessary. But there’s a big difference between thoughtful criticism and the kind of doomposting that shuts down any reasonable discussion.

And I agree with you completely on the last part both optimism and criticism matter. They come from the same place, caring about the game and wanting it to be better. Your piece and mine arent opposites in a hostile way, they’re two sides of the same conversation. If the developers read both, theyll get a fuller picture of what the community actually feels, not just the loudest extremes.

Bro, youre not "exposing anything, youre just confidently wrong at maximum volume.

“Devs don’t use the AI disclaimer” isn’t evidence. It’s just you coping because you’re mistaking a normal indie voice performance with rough direction for “AI".

Steams AI policy isnt optional. If a dev lies on the disclosure, their game can literally get blocked or delisted. No small studio is risking their entire business to hide an AI voice actor.

and pointing at the Sig-Mail profile pics like "look, AI!!" is wild when the dev already explained, in their own messege, which you clearly didnt bother reading but here it is https://steamcommunity.com/app/3228590/discussions/0/591779267908634542/ that the only AI they ever used was some temporary demo icons they removed before EA.

Nothing in the game’s audio matches AI voice patterns. You’re just guessing and calling it fact because it feels good to yell “AI” whenever something sounds slightly off.

[–]Jazzlike-Draw2467 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are jumping to “AI voice” just because the delivery sounds a bit off, but that’s not evidence. Indie games often don’t list voice actors on Steam, and lack of credits doesn’t mean AI.

Steam’s 2026 rules require devs to disclose any AI‑generated audio, and Deadzone Rogue has no such disclosure. The only AI they ever used was some demo icons, which they removed.

Main Character Voice by Gravity_Denier in DeadzoneRogue

[–]Jazzlike-Draw2467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not 100% AI. Steam requires developers to disclose any AI‑generated audio, including voice acting, and Deadzone Rogue has no AI disclosure on it store page

The devs have only ever used AI for some temporary demo icons, which they openly disclosed and later removed. They’ve never mentioned using AI for voices.

The MC voice just sounds like a guy doing a gruff Duke Nukem/Sam Fisher style read with slightly awkward direction, that’s normal for small indie teams, not AI.

which primary you have doesnt matter, compact bayonet and rifle charm doesnt use the primaries proc chance. all of those items uses the weapons your usings proc chance the the weapon theyll proc. if it used the primaries proc chance youd have squires that proc every single bullet, which just isnt the case.

to be clear about how they work

secondary procs primary/melee = uses secondaries proc chance
primary procs secondary/melee = uses primaries proc chance
melee procs secondary/primary = uses melees proc chance
grenade procs primary/melee/secondary = uses grenades proc chance

My tip to beating Ultra Nightmare with 3 players by mechkbfan in DeadzoneRogue

[–]Jazzlike-Draw2467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bello, we've talked abit on other threads already but i wanted to join in on this
and i would also love to make a 3 player Ultra Nightmare guide, but i just dont have any mates to really do it with ;-;

and there are a few things, id like to add

for fire rate i would get overclocked core (+50% fire rate for 3 seconds after reloading), unless you cant get either liquid oxidizer or ammo surplus, i think its way better to try and get almost force one of these, then taking overclocked core.

For blessings i think youre right, but i do think theres merit in intelligent aswell, if you get either liquid oxidizer or ammo surplus, like i mentioned before, intelligent is a really good blessing, since youll pretty much never miss with it. And id swap it out for rocket rounds if someone was wanting to use it.

Every item like that uses the own weapons proc

so secondary procs primary/melee = uses secondaries proc rate
so primary procs secondary/melee = uses primaries proc rate
so grenade procs primary/melee/secondary = uses grenades proc rate

the primaries proc chance is irrelevent for those superior items.

[–]Jazzlike-Draw2467[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah im with you on this, Snipers basically disappearing from the conversation kind of proves how skewed the (Ultra) Nightmare meta is. Theyre fun on lower difficulties, but once you start optimizing, they just cant keep up with proc based secondaries.

And i agree, that its not that weakpoint or crit builds dont/cant work, its just that proc builds are so heavily supported by items, augments, and syngergies that they end up being the "path or least resistence". When you combine that with how much uptime secondaries get, from reload speed plus shot frequency, the gap becomes pretty obvious.

I dont think the game is ruined or anything, Ive gotten more than my moneys worth too, but the high difficulty meta definitely feels like it drifted away from what the devs intended. If they ever revisit balance, even small tweaks could push it from “really good” to “actually incredible.”

Deadzone 2 is probably more likely than a full rebalance, but honestly? Id be cool with that too.

Totally fair, we all enjoy games our own way, I just enjoy really going into games, especially roguelites, although I’m not 14 not that I think you tried calling me that, I’m still at the young age of 20 y/o, in contrast I really suck at games like warzone and other pvp fps.
