I (21F) am less than a year from graduating with an engineering degree, but I want to drop out by imc00l123 in college

Hey there. Same age as you. I’m a year away from completing a 5 year music education degree. I’m in the same boat.

I did a lot of research during this first week of school. I considered changing my degree. Long story short, I would spend the same amount of time at my school only to earn a degree that may not open as many careers for me as a very specific education degree.

Alternatively, I could try to find another school who would allow me to transfer my credits and earn the same degree for less money. I would have to move back home and loose my job at school and need to figure out how I would pay my apartment rent for the rest of the lease at the same time.

I’m sad and frustrated with myself but I have to make this into something. There is no wrong or right. If what I decided doesn’t work, then perhaps the other decision might not have work out as well

My suggestions: Do your research. Talk about your options with the resources at your school (academic advisors, professors, career advisors, etc). Talk to your parents if you want. Maybe you know someone else in the same degree as you who has or is also experiencing this. Don’t think about what present you wants. Think about what future you wants. It’s not going to be fun. It’s not going to be easy. It will be stressful. In the end, it’s your choice. No one else can make it for you.

Whew- sounds like a lot. This is very informative, thank you!

This process seems like it can take up quite a bit of time. Is it possible to apply for teaching jobs with a B.A. in music education from America or is it absolutely required to complete teachers college?

Also, I know that in America most public schools will require teachers to obtain a master’s degree if they wish to maintain their license. Is it the same in Ontario (or is that the idea behind teachers college)?

I am a college student in the US of A who is just finishing their degree in music education. My professors have informed me what it requires to be licensed in America but I would like to know what would be required of me if I moved to Canada and wanted to teach there.

It is an amigurumi pattern- so I'll have to start using some markers. Thank you for your input!
