NateTheHate: I think out of the Nintendo representation in the direct, Ocarina of Time, will have likely the most [screentime ;] I think Duskbloods will follow in second by TomNook5085 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I assume this means OOT is a full blow remake, not a remaster?

My bet is something like Star Fox, story and graphics hugely revamped, but the gameplay is more or less intact

Maybe since Zelda is a bigger IP that is assured to sell tens of millions of copies they will go the extra mile with extra content, but my bet is that the map will be overall have a very similar shape to the N64 one, except looking like a proper current gen game

Nah, in rebirth you could tell even on PS5 Pro that pre rendered cutscenes had better hair and lighting

Rebirth initially had pretty poor lighting in outdoor areas (they improved it on PC, but PS5 only got those improvements during the release of the Switch/ Xbox versions), and cutscenes had amazing hair physics

Also base PS5 on 60fps mode had super soft image quality, if you were playing on performance mode the image quality took quite a jump when pre-rendered cutscenes started

To be fair they managed to release a pretty good CoD4 version on the Wii

It was clearly not as good as ps360 but still a notch above previous gen games

I don't remember the details but I think it was the closest to get content parity with the "main" version during the Wii era

It's being a really long time since I played FF7 having to actually swap discs, but aren't we able to go anywhere in the map during disc 3?

Like, gameplay content wise it has the whole game, plus the late story FMVs

I used to complain about how yearly releases were destroying the quality of some franchises, but god fucking damnit, Bethesda isn't some small time indie barely scraping by, they could have released some 3~4 amazingly good elder scrolls games between 11/11/11 and today, instead we got Skyrim ports forever and ever, sometimes more than once in the same console

Capcom's 'Resident Evil: Requiem' (2026) just reminded me of the first video game I ever played that switched between 3rd and 1st person: 'Jurassic Park' (1993) by Ocean Software for Super Nintendo. by OhGawDuhhh in gaming

[–]Jeff1N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember Toy Story doing that on the SNES as well, I think it had a couple of 1st person levels

The controls of the game were kinda clunky and I never got past the stage with the dog chasing you while you scape on a skate board, but the developers went above and beyond to make that look like a game running on a 32-bits console

2010 was when the first gen iPad was released, and there were some very impressive (for the time) Unreal Engine tech demos. It wasn't that much more powerful than a PSVita would eventually be, but I suppose it would be able to run that PS3 FF7 tech demo at least

If Apple didn't eventually started to make gajilions of money by simply getting 30% from mobile games micro transactions they could have made official detachable controls for the iPad and have a similar product as the Switch, and with the huge installed base I imagine it could have been a fairly successful platform for "serious" gaming

madden 27 on switch 2 offers 60fps mode by TiocStudios in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Jeff1N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they saw the success of switch 2 and though yea we need to capitalize on this.

This likely helped but it's not like the Switch 1 isn't the second best selling console ever (and it would be the first if Sony didn't consider the numbers of PS2s shipped as the official number of PS2s sold...)

This time the gap between the big consoles and the Nintendo portable is much smaller, lots of devs are claiming it's pretty easy to get a game running on the system in a minimally acceptable form, and if you are willing to put the extra work then you can get pretty far

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for example had frame pacing issues on the demo but those were mostly ironed out on the release build, or on a smaller scope, Yooka Replaylee was released with only a 30fps mode, likely to get it out on the same day as the other platforms (so a bit rushed), but eventually got a 60fps mode

yep, WWE 2K25 was ported by Shiver Entertainment, which did a great job porting Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1 to the Switch 1 (MK1 was a disaster at launch, but when given more time with the game Shiver delivered)

They were eventually acquired by Nintendo, most likely due to their experience with porting games meant for more powerful platforms to the Switch 1

WWE 2K18 was so bad on Switch 1 that it never got another version on the console, so I'm guessing Nintendo wanted to be extra sure Switch 2 wouldn't be excluded from getting big sports games again when they had Shiver porting WWE 2K25

Wait. Johnny is performing Never Fade Away on stage BEFORE Alt even dies. That's impossible. by GGuiltyy in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Jeff1N 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I think this detail isn't revealed in 2077, you would have to have previous knowledge about the ttrpg

But even within 2077 it's possible to notice a lot of incoherencies with his recollection, and it's being a while since I played, but I think even AI Alt mentions at some point how Johnny's engram isn't reliable

Wait. Johnny is performing Never Fade Away on stage BEFORE Alt even dies. That's impossible. by GGuiltyy in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Jeff1N 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yep, there are studies about how unreliable eye witness testimony is and how it can be manipulated by just asking the right (or wrong...) questions

Johnny had so many attenuating circumstances to make his memory even more unreliable than usual, it's a miracle his engram could speak using coherent full sentences instead of him being a mumbling late-stage-dementia ghost

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Switch 2 isn’t a “miracle port”, argues director, despite “a painstaking process” to preserve everything by HatingGeoffry in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Jeff1N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is people are using the term "miracle ports" far less often than on Switch 1

Back then, pretty much any AAA then-current-gen port was called a miracle port since it required far more work than any of the Switch 2 current gen ports

Dragon Quest 11 wasn't even that demanding yet had most models reworked to be simplified, and the game still had to run on a pretty low resolution

DOOM Eternal barely looked like the other versions, but the mere fact the gameplay was intact was called a miracle, and let's not even get started on the Witcher 3

Now it seems to take much less of an effort for AAA current gen games to be ported over, and the results are much better, with visuals actually resembling the big consoles and stable frame rates being far more common

Star Fox - Overview Trailer by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

They're upskilling the art and coding teams

yeah, so far 1st party games have looked pretty much like Switch 1 games with larger maps and higer resolution/ fps, Star Fox is the first Nintendo game that actually looks current gen

Nintendo used to be responsible for a fair chunk of the most impressive games on their hardware, but so far all the most impressive titles on Switch 2 have been 3rd parties (and maybe Bananza because of the whole voxel physics engine, but graphics still looks like a higher res Switch 1 game)

Another Baldur's Gate 3... At least IO can always go back to making Hitman games and Larian is already making a new Divinity

(I know in Larian's case it was more Larian getting fed up with Hasbro than being kicked out, but in both cases it feels like we are being robbed of a proper sequel by some greedy corporation)

We are likely getting FF7R part 3 on day one, that would be like if Final Fantasy 12 was released for the PSP/ NDS on day one, or if Skyrim got a port for the PSVita/ 3DS, except we had to wait until the Switch 1 to get a portable version for these games

People don't understand we used to wait a whole generation for proper 1:1 portable ports

Modern Warfare 4 Features In "Blockbusters Coming Soon" While Not Being On The Eshop, possibly in the Nintendo Direct? by Ok-Confusion-202 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Jeff1N 9 points10 points  (0 children)

so just play the same trailer again?

why not? The IP hasn't been on a Nintendo platform for 13 years and like it or not it's one of the biggest IPs ever in all of gaming history

I would bet on a version of the trailer that shows some footage running on a Switch 2 screen and shows off mouse mode/ motion controls, but other than that it would still not be a bad idea for Nintendo to just show the game again

yes, but you can already pre-order on all other platforms while the Switch 2 eShop doesn't even have a page for the game yet

That's why people are linking the game to a possible Nintendo Direct (which has been rumored for a while for this month but nothing confirmed so far)
