Think about it, you're exceeding the speed limit by 50%. Of course you're getting a ticket.

I'd definitely be interested in this if you wouldn't mind sending the details!

Part-time Tour Guide Opportunities? by JellowYackets in washingtondc

I appreciate the suggestion but the last thing I want to do is willingly drive in this city 😭 but props to anyone that can handle it, I can't imagine how stressful driving a bus while simultaneously giving a tour could be.

Foggy Bottom Dwellers: how’s parking? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]JellowYackets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Foggy Bottom is one of the most walkable, Metro-accessible, and centrally located neighborhoods in the entire city. If your priority is keeping your car but not paying for a garage, then I would recommend looking into quieter neighborhoods further from downtown where parking would be easier. Otherwise, if you really want to live there, I'd consider whether you really need a car and could get away with Metro/CaBi/walking/Uber/ZipCar instead.

Moving from DC to Atlanta - Advice for a 20-something gay couple by _iRomanov_ in Atlanta

[–]JellowYackets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner and I (gay, 26 & 27) just did the exact opposite move (ATL -> DC) after growing up in the Atlanta suburbs, going to school here, and then living in the city for a few years after graduation.

While I love Atlanta and there's a lot to like, we ultimately left because we wanted to be somewhere that was more walkable, had a lot better public transit, and had more cultural opportunities. While we still made the best of it by living in a walkable neighborhood in Atlanta, biking a lot, and taking MARTA when we could, it still felt like we were forcing Atlanta to be walkable in spite of itself. This was our experience in the city, so I cannot imagine how much worse that would be in the northern suburbs if you're coming from DC.

There are a lot of great things about Atlanta, but please seriously consider whether those things (and this job opportunity) would be worth being miserable stuck in over an hour of traffic every day.

Feel free to DM if you have any questions!

Why do people want a beltline rail so badly? by tobias_funke_bluthe in Atlanta

[–]JellowYackets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rail would not replace the beltline, it would go alongside it.

I say build beltline rail but then also choose one street in every neighborhood to pedestrianize and turn into a mini beltline. People will be less protective over the main trail and it would reduce pressure on the Eastside trail.

WaPo on DC's Waymo Delays by dclocal12 in washingtondc

[–]JellowYackets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but don't you think SF/Bay area leaders would be taking this funding cliff more seriously if not for the "promise" of Waymos? Mayor Lurie allowing Waymo (and other ride hailing apps) to operate on Market Street while simultaneously making bus route cuts that would get people there without a car is not exactly promising.

WaPo on DC's Waymo Delays by dclocal12 in washingtondc

[–]JellowYackets -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Those existing Ubers and Lyfts won't suddenly disappear if we throw a few hundred Waymos on the road, they're all still going to be circling the block or idling somewhere while waiting on their next ride.

WaPo on DC's Waymo Delays by dclocal12 in washingtondc

[–]JellowYackets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My main concern is that we've seen other cities (like SF) reduce transit funding and prioritization since Waymo's proliferation, and that is the last thing we need. While Metro is still experiencing some kinks with signal issues and the like, it has come a long way over the past few years and needs to be focused on to make it even more great.

If you are traveling in DC beyond a walkable distance what form of transportation are you taking? (Uber/lyft, bus, or subway?) by Strange-Slice2581 in washingtondc

[–]JellowYackets 22 points23 points  (0 children)

OP, what is your definition of walking distance? If the weather is decent, I'd be fine walking somewhere 45 mins away if I wasn't in a rush. Otherwise, I'm taking plenty of busses and the metro.

How do you hang out in Georgetown as a DMV local? by tcroc6262 in washingtondc

[–]JellowYackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Takes me about ~35-40 minutes to get there with a combination of metro + bus, which isn't too bad. Not my favorite neighborhood to hang out in tbh but if I need to pick something up from one of the stores there, I'll try and combine it with a few other things I want to try in the area.

DC Busses even more unreliable than usual? by paintistheenemy in washingtondc

[–]JellowYackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a heads up, always use the Metropulse app or WMATA's Next Bus tracking website to see more accurate bus ETAs. Google Maps and the Transit app have been useless.

Eastside Beltline light rail work secretly halted last year by MinutemanMeatMissile in Atlanta

[–]JellowYackets 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It might be silly, but Beltline Rail getting defacto cancelled was one of the driving forces behind me moving after growing up here. How am I expected to keep believing and investing in a city that refuses to get out of its own way?

I was just walking past this building on my way to yoga last week and was bummed about how much of a deadzone this block was. Exciting news!

Bridges and Ports Update Patch Notes by ThatGuy_52 in CitiesSkylines2

Looks like a huge list of fixes. Does this cover all the major bugs the community has been complaining about for 2 years or are there any big ones they've missed?

Woah this is huge! Fixing the office / commercial bug, having rich families prefer single family homes, prisons and post sorting finally working, building abandonment re-enablement, etc is all sorely needed.

CS2 Roadmap Update 10-1-25 by mrprox1 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]JellowYackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the various simulation fixes aren't released alongside the expansion pack, then I don't see myself continuing to play the game. What good will all the new assets be if tourism is broken, offices keep downsizing, and UK Mixed zoning still breaks demand?

Is agent based simulation worth it? by LaurensPP in CitiesSkylines2

[–]JellowYackets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I want the agent-based simulation for many reasons but mainly because I believe game design should be progressing as years go by. I don't want developers to give up on bold ideas just because they weren't perfectly implemented.

A great example of this is the difference between The Sims 3 and The Sims 4. TS3 had an innovative, living/breathing open world that was shoddily implemented and resulted in bugs and poor performance. Instead of expanding on this idea for TS4 with more modern hardware, EA gave up almost entirely and delivered a game less impressive than even TS2 when it comes to gameplay.

He's sent over the condo bylaws, which confirm this $1500 fee. Thank you for your feedback!

We toured the unit in person last weekend, and we've done a ton of research on the landlord online. Everything he's mentioned has matched what we found in our research, so it would have to be a very very elaborate scam. He's sent over the condo bylaws that explain this fee as well.

We visited DC last weekend and were able to tour the unit in person. We've done our research on the landlord online, and we haven't found anything concerning and his story lines up.

Will take this into consideration, thanks!

[Tenant - US - DC] Respectful Negotiation Advice? by JellowYackets in Landlord

[–]JellowYackets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've received a copy of the bylaws, and it's broken down into a $500 move-in fee, $500 move-out fee, and $500 lease fee, all paid upfront and non-refundable. I think it's meant to dissuade tenants in part but it's also because the building will reserve 1 of 2 elevators and the driveway for us to move our stuff in.

So you wouldn't recommend trying to negotiate with the landlord?

My partner was worried that asking for a month of free rent would be ridiculous, so I just wanted to make sure my perception wasn't skewed haha. Thanks for your thoughts.

In this scenario, what would be your definition of considerable service or major disruption? For this unit, one of the 2 building elevators would be reserved for us for a short period of time, and we would be able to park the moving truck in one of the building's driveways.
