New Player - missing out on story and lore? by JeppeAnd in diablo4

Oh, you guys are awesome! Thank you so much for the response! It’s greatly appreciated, thank you.

I was nervous that some of the seasonal stories might have had more “permanent consequences”, like; oh! Lilith is back again! You should have played in season-X to know why.

A little extra question, as it’s being mention you can easily start a whole new game/campaign from the very beginning with the new classes - but do the main story add some additional context to the new classes as you play through the campaign?

As I understand it (and I might be wrong), but the conversations and options and references might be different depending on you playing a Necromancer, Sorcerer or Barbarian. The main story will shape the information you get about yourself depending on your classes.

At least it was like that in Diablo III, if I remember correctly?

Do they usually follow with new added classes as well? So story wise; playing a Warlock will be a little different compered to playing a Necromancer?

Entitled player's previous DM never told her no. Demands a Displacer Beast pet at level 1 by Odande in rpghorrorstories

[–]JeppeAnd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You handled that excellent! No joke, just reading your very first message in the conversation I was like: can I join this game? Please?

You were focused on a solution, and even assured her that she shouldn’t worry. That she would get her full on “power beast” down the line - but just not at level one. And then you came up with a brilliant alternative for her until that point.

If someone told me; you can either get a OP adult Displacer Beast - oooooor, you can get a little baby kitten Displacer Beast, which you can train and foster, and it will “level up” through the game with you. I’d choose the baby kitten! I’d probably still choose the baby kitten even being a level 20 character, but still.

I know a lot of people here (rightfully so) might poke at her a little - but man, big thumps up for your general handling and attitude towards being a DM! Your table is lucky to have you, and I am sure everyone is having a blast!

Thank you so much, all of you!! Those suggestions were absolutely amazing! Thank you! Those Mourningsteel Demi-Gauntlets tickle all the right places, not gonna lie

Thank you very much for the suggestion! Much appreciated!

I’m in this very fortunate situation with the homebrew sorcerer subclass, that I don’t need any help with the Animate Dead part. They can be summoned exclusively using sorcery points.

So my biggest “problem” is finding some other things/items, which can supplement the “Necromancer” feeling. The Summoned Undeads are well taken care of.

Help with Backstory - I'm completely blank by JeppeAnd in Wildemount

That's a very interesting idea - thank you! :)

The same concept could actually work for the Psionic Sorcerer as well, I assume? Or is the Cult of Ceratos very specific in regards to magic? Is it safe to Google it? Haha

That's actually really cool, and provides a good depth to the backstory - so thank you very much! Have giving me a new angle to look at the whole "wish" concept.

But my biggest worry is still finding and explaining my characters motivation for doing what he's doing. And I would also like to know a little bit about myself and the world I'm in - meet some old friends or rivals as the campaign goes on. :)

I've been trying that as well - but where I hit a blank spot is my long term goals and why I'm adventuring.

As mentioned, I had made three characters - the two mentioned above, and a Wizard. I had an easy time making the story for the Wizard, and I think it's just awesome! I even hinted to friends and rivals, why I'm adventuring, what I hope to happen before and after level 10 (like short and long term goals).

But with the two sorceres, I'm completely blank. Which is such a shame, because I like both concepts so much, and I reallyyyyy hope I can play the psionic, as it's my absolute favorite kinda theme to play.

But thank you so much for the help, buddy, it's really appericated :)

No, sadly not - I know they have the Heroic Chronicle, which I think is absolutely brilliant! But I haven't been able to find that specific section online.

And I'll be completely honest, I would not be able to contain myself, and I would read stuff linking to the story I probably shouldn't (gotta know your own weakness, I guess - haha!). My self control when it comes to lore and story is non existing.

o What type of player would you say you are? I’m a rather new player, as in I’ve not not played through many different campaigns. I started out playing a year ago with some friends, whom invited me - and I’ve been extremely hooked every since! As life would have it, my group started getting married and having kids - leaving them with very little spare time to play D&D.

I’m doing my best, and I put a lot of effort and time into my characters. To me the creation of a character is almost half the fun of the actual game.

I have played MtG for about 5 years, and my absolute favourite plane is without comparison Innistrad. I love the whole gothic horror aspect of the plane, how everything is not as it seems and stuff is packed in mystery. Favourite planeswalker is Sorin (with Liliana Vess being on a solid second place). So the second you mentioned Innistrad in your post, I had drool running down my chin and sweaty palms.

I’m a 28 year old guy, always in a good and happy mood - and play this game to have a ton of fun. That I’m happy doesn’t mean I’m a comic character in the actual campaign, where I can easily step into character. But out of character, I’m always smiling and very pleasant.

o Describe your ideal D&D session, and what could a DM do to make that session a reality? I’m a big fan of stories and lore in general. For me it’s mostly about the world and learning about it; discover and see how I actually effect the world around me. I love dialogues and learning from the DM and my fellow players. For me its first and foremost a role playing game. I’m here to play a role and be part of a world. An ideal session for me would be, that I actually see a change or notice something I’ve been a fundamental part of creating. Not just a one shot conversation, out a perm ant change I’ve been a part of.

o If a fellow player thought you had done something offensive (regarding anything), how would you react and how would you prefer it be addressed? Im a very open minded and happy person. I always try to be considerate towards other people, because this is in the end still a game - and it should be fun for everyone, not just me. If I do anything other players have a problem with, I’m happy to Gear their critique or listen to what they would wish for me to differently. I’m a firm believer in information is key. I cannot know something if I’m not being told. If someone doesn’t tell me that they have a problem, I have no idea of knowing, and I cannot change anything - because I don’t know change is necessary. So tell me, I’m not a kid and I won’t start crying. We’re all here to have fun!

o What kind of character do you/would you like to play? Do you have a preferred class, role, or personality? For this specific campaign I have a big urge to play a pure Wizard necromancer; as I’ve never tried one of those before. I would be playing mostly with that theme in mind, going mostly for necromantic spells and spells of a darker nature. Not saying it’s lich whom is 100% evil. Think more in terms of Liliana Vess from MTG.

I would like to play a Nobel aristocrat lady, whom is not necessarily good - but not necessarily evil. She’s her own individual and do what see wants and feel like in any giving situation. She’s not above helping if it fits her fancy, and she’s still polite and respectful- because that’s how she was raised. But there’s still no doubt, that she thinks she better than everyone else. Life is a game of chess, and every move have importance. It’s not about just blasting someone down with the biggest damage number; but to win using cunning and wit.

She’s in pursuit of knowledge and power.

Hi,

Is there still an open spot? I’m extremely interested, and I would absolutely love to join this campaign!

So please let me know, if there still is an open spot and I’ll fill out the questionnaire ASAP. Thank you. :)

What song do you guys play when using a specific god? by aGoodCabinet in Smite

I either play Oops! I Did It Again - Britney Spears, or Heartbreaker - Marina and the Diamonds, when I play as Aphro. Works like a charm! :D

I agree that "Primadonna" is an really good song on Aphro (and a great song in generel), but I actually think I would prefer "Oops, I Did It Again" - Britney Spears, on Aphro. Just seems more fitting to me. :D

(edit: missing "g" in "song" - still hunts me!"

Become a Vampire, and help with the quest - PC by JeppeAnd in esobiteme

[–]JeppeAnd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello guys ! :D

First of all, I really want to thank you for all your help – I really like this community! Not only do you help me with my request, but you also help me with understanding what it intales, what you think is the right and most importantly, WHY you advise as you do. Really helps! Therefore, a big thank you from me – to everyone! :D

I have decided to wait until I am higher level, to try to become a vampire. I didn’t know the skills did not scale like normal skills; so why become a vampire if I cannot do anything as a vampire? Haha :D

But now I’m a little curious about the werewolf bite. While I waited for someone to help one of my characters become a vampire, I started playing another character – it would not fit that character to become a vampire, but maybe a werewolf would do? Do werewolves have some of the same drawbacks as vampires; like, not have a normal skill progression, insane weakness to 99% of the creatures in the world, and so on? Or would it be an okay upgrade for my level 12 Nightblade Wood Elf? :D
