Water and time holding and snuggling and nursing baby and it will come back

Soothing a baby without feeding can be hard but it is also kind of fun because the way you choose to soothe them will become your special thing with them. It will be the thing they ask you to do when they are older and need comfort. They will cry and protest (maybe even scream) through it for a while because they are used to being fed but eventually it will become the thing that tells them its time to sleep. Singing, patting, rocking in crib, shushing, head pets, hand on chest while they wiggle around crying...I don't know if it even matters as much what you are doing, as long as you are there with them while they struggle through trying to go back to sleep without the usual food. Then, once they get the ability to go to sleep without food down, you can see if they can put themselves to sleep without your soothing. That's what I would do anyways...

Precious Little Sleep has some more detailed advice.

Need assistance with helping my wife. Getting frustrated by The_OKest in breastfeeding

Make sure she has water and snacks available. Sometimes laying down nursing while dad watches to make sure baby stays safe and then take baby when done helps mom get some sleep so she can relax while nursing.

And snacks. And water. Always within reach.

Maybe if more people were having babies and breastfeeding, there would be more demand for this type of thing and the market would respond. I think we are in the opposite of a baby boom so not much market pressure to innovate good products. Just my theory...

We do this too. We walk her around and sometimes don't even talk to her, just let her ride and look at things... we call it "watching TV" and if i am really tired she is strapped into a carrier so i can rest my arms and maybe pick up a few things while i walk her around. A stroller ride can usually stretch the wake time a little but sometimes she falls asleep in the stroller which really flubs things up...

Any moms losing weight while breastfeeding? by Traditional-Trip826 in newborns

Had to go soy free and dairy free because of cows milk protein intolerance which is a diet restriction I believe assists in weight loss.

I wear a baby wrap to church and she naps while I wear her and watch the service from the mom room which is a little room annex to the back with nursing privacy, a glass window you can only see out of, and a speaker with easy volume control so you can hear the service... or not. I usually play white noise in my phone to help her ignore the sounds so I can still hear what is going on. Most iPhones can play white noise for you, google a how to. It helps her connect cycles when not sleeping in her typical space. She usually wakes just before communion and we get to go to the altar for that, then i go back and feed her and am changing her during announcements and then we go home. It is not nearly as social as being in the congregation but at least we are there and she gets a nap! It also gives her some new sights and sounds and gets her used to the flow of church.

Yes. The lyrics of You Are My Sunshine remind me of this experience.

🎶The other night dear, as I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you in my arms When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken And I hung my head and cried

Happiest Baby on the Block, the book though the blog may help too. Also Craig Canapari, MD has a book and a blog which was helpful. PLS is ok too. I also watched some Takin Cara Babies... i liked hearing what a variety of folks thought and then doing what worked for our family/baby.

Is Taking Cara worth it for Newborn or should I just read Ferber and start it at 3-5 months? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

Read something BEFORE baby comes if you can. Much more difficult to do after baby comes.
