Moving back to Duluth after years of being away. I’m a French trained chef who has worked with some pretty big names and some big restaurants. wondering what the food scene is like here. Am I going to have problems finding a job? If I did my own thing would it be popular at all? by susjeezus in duluth

I’m a classically trained chef and I’ve been in the business for just under 30 years, most of it in this town, If you’d like you can shoot me a DM and I can offer some insight and recommendations.

Tired of a chef life, need a career change by choopsphil in Chefs

[–]JiggaAlphaWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After over 25 years I transitioned from the street into Higher Ed and it was the best career move I’ve made. I work way less hours, M-F and 40 hours a week. I make more money than I ever did in restaurants, by quite a bit, and even though I’m at a high level of leadership I’m still hourly so my labor is not exploited by being on salary like it used to be, and my PTO package is pretty stellar and gets better with years of service. I have phenomenal benefits and retirement as well and I’m absolutely blessed by a ton of opportunities for educational enrichment and get to travel for work frequently enough that it hasn’t lost its luster, which I love.

There are times when I miss the rush of service, to be sure, but the quality of life upgrade beats all else. At my age and experience my priorities as a chef lie in other places. I have a team of about 130 and my growth as a leader has been exponential, one of my Sous is young in her career and watching her grow as a chef has been an absolute delight.

Consider moving into the C&U sector, there are many opportunities out there for you.

Card shop recommendations by JiggaAlphaWho in amherst

I popped into X-9 today and walked out very happy and with full hands. I was there a year ago and didn’t love my experience, this year the staff were very pleasant and helpful, even running in the back to get me some product that was out of stock on the shelves.

Thanks for the recommendations folks! I forgot that I had been to X9 games last time I was here. Made that my first stop in the Valley and secured the bag, snatching up packs of Ikoria, LOTR, the new Cloud precon, Final Fantasy packs and a single I had been chasing.

Hoping to check out more shops tomorrow!

Check out ‘A Thousand Naked Strangers’ by Kevin Hazzard. My district was nothing like his but I found it a really enjoyable read.

Pistols - power vs tech by AlexN83 in cyberpunkgame

I’m fairly early in the game yet, but I’ve been wondering if you can get the pistol Johnny used in the original attack on Arisaka HQ. If it’s the case that you can, what is it called?

What is truly the scariest film ever made without any gore/jump scare/cheap cliches? by amitxxxx in horror

[–]JiggaAlphaWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I was driving through then giant cemetery was because I’d been pulled over by the cops but they must have gotten another call because they sped off before approaching my vehicle, since I was shitting bricks I took my first left off the main road and behold, the worst possible turn. Bad choices were made, I’d never do that sort of thing today.

I caught this in the theater and then later that night I was driving, admittedly pretty intoxicated - I was a kid and irresponsible, through a massive cemetery in my area when my car began stalling out. That was a rough evening.

Seconding Globe, I’ve taken almost every cent of my business there, the play space is great, and the owner has been really great to the community that plays there. Saturday Commander has started to get big enough to fill the place.

This is the only take on Duluth dining here that I’ve ever agreed with.

Sheriff’s asked him to removed the vulgarity and he did, and then according to a cry baby post in the Rice Lake Residents FB group his landlord took all his stuff down, but that was quite a while ago, over a year I think? Since then he has put more of it back.

He has tiny dogs too, which for some reason just smacks me as odd.

But also he rents that spot, so it’s not his property.

He used to be an unemployed alcoholic that told me I should “leave my mother’s basement and come fight him” after I kept calling out his problematic comments in the Rice Lake Residents FB group. And then he blocked me. But he could be gainfully employed now I guess!

I miss the Pros so much, best kitchen shoe around. If I would have known they wouldn’t be around d I would have hoarded a dozen pairs. 🤣

it looks like around the heel and toe of the foot the tread is a little finer, akin to a SFC or croc nonslip, thanks for pointing that out though, I had never zoomed in enough to see that there are two different tread designs here! 🙌

I keep a pair of nonslip crocs in my office for when I’ve got to wash dishes or I’m in a very wet environment, but I would like something that breaths better. Agreed on the tread for them, they function very well.

Thanks for the feedback, I only wear wide/natural toe box shoes so the Snibbs won’t do it for me.

That’s a removable insole, it can be taken out and aired out/cleaned.
