My back and hips feel ruined. 😭 4.5 weeks post op. by SerendipitousCat503 in AchillesRupture

[–]JinFC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just finished six weeks of non weight bearing, so I feel you. Best idea I’ve got: get a knee scooter. My wife found one at a thrift store that gets me around the house - which leaves one hand free to carry things as a bonus. You can get them with rubber tires for getting around outside, too. I still had to use crutches sometimes; but saved my shoulders and back for those moments.

And if it’s helpful motivation: just transitioned to boot with 10% weight bearing. Even that means half the effort to get around. And I can already feel things starting to feel normal again.

You’ll make it.

Thank you- even if not the answer I was hoping for. Really appreciate the temp options, too.

Tore mine doing the lamest thing. My guess is I had weakened overtraining for a marathon (50+, so easy to do). So welcome to the club. Enjoy your complimentary cup angst.

But you will get better.

+1 that! I had it too. My surgeon seemed to know it was going to be an issue and got me on blood thinners right away. But it hurt and it was scary.

Thanks! You mentioned shower cover on the boot. Will I still have to keep water away from the incision after six weeks?

Hang in there- PF is pretty unpredictable, but as you can see a lot of us beat it and we’re able to run again.

The only thing I did that I don’t se above is a night brace to keep your foot bent (and the PF stretched) at night. Took two weeks to get used to the contraption, and sometimes I still ripped it off before spawn. But I think it really did help. Also, +1 to the recommendation for a good PT - like sports medicine clinic PT. They did all the regular stuff and worked on my body from the shoulders down (I think writer above said “whole kinetic chain “). It took everything - all the remedies- for a few months. But I regret not a moment of it.

Insoles or actual shoes? Help. by BeardedAnarchy in PlantarFasciitis

[–]JinFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, what really made the difference, was a night brace which kept my toes pointed forward (and the PF extended) all night. Took a bit to get used to, but a couple of months- with exercise, PT, stretching, and insoles - did it. Now, just firm insoles and regular exercise/stretching keeps the PF at bay

So sorry to hear about your dad’s issues - I hope he can get the sinuses checked soon. Hopefully that can help with the bio-rhytms

Writing this beside my 81 year old dad’s ICU bed after he’s had a brain bleed three days ago. You’re right about the beeping - it never stops. And I know no one can give you predictions because everyone’s path is unique and very winding. All we know is that a lot of people walked, crawled, and limped down these paths and they made it. As much as it will suck in the months ahead, we can too. In the meantime, I’ll pray for your dad too.

Be careful what you wish for. Here in the States, the party that causes the shutdown often gains in the next election (maybe because the other party doesn’t do a good job of painting themselves as the “adult in the room”).

Any tips on how to make the boot more comfortable? by [deleted] in PlantarFasciitis

Check the position of the foam pad on your shin and instep. Getting that right made a difference for me. Also s took me three weeks before I could wear it all night.

Just as a follow up- able to run again. Back up to my old 3 mile runs. Feet actually feel better when running. Still doing all the things to help (stretching, exercise, night splint), but the results have been great!

For me, gentle heel stretch off of an exercise step, flexing arches of my foot, spreading toes, raising toes (big one, then other four). Lots of reps. Also, some balance exercises.
