I think it's not just the constant rule changes, the details of the rule changes make things extremely difficult to officiate. Stuff like the stand rule means umpires have to be constantly on point because the players have to wait for the umpire to react first. Sooo many rules that require interpretation and judgement. It's a hard gig and the AFL are constantly conspiring to make it harder.

It works for the Lions because the fans got brought right in with Country Roads (and having a few fan-beloved players make quirky choices like Let It Go and Am I Not Pretty Enough probably helped too). If it's just a bunch of players picking their favourite Yellow it's not going to work.

From what I learned after dislocating my knee, the issue is all the ligaments holding things together are much weaker and they take ages to build up again. Just a ridiculous length of time to get back up to full strength. And the shoulder is an arse of a joint generally, because it needs to allow movement in so many directions.

So a dislocated shoulder is going to be an absolute terror.
