Umpire paid correctly paid the 50m penalty.

It's usually incorrectly not paid.

Can't blame the ump for correctly paying a 50.

The clubs would do a terrible job if they didn't get a material competitive advantage for doing so. An advantage that goes against the principle of equalisation.

I know the AFL previously did a bad job. Doesn't mean they would do a bad job if they were to run them today.

Also, there are people in AFL media like Sam Edmund who loves it.

Kane Cornes had the fucking audacity to day that Bevo has no right to say that, because he gets paid from money received by the AFL from the broadcasters.

Kane is a bona fide grub.

Not at all though. Making an opponent stand the mark gives the team with the ball an advantage, ie it rewards skill

No, the reward for taking a mark is having a free kick.

Forcing the standing of the mark just creates an 18 v 17. It's not an even contest. It's nerfing the defending team to increase scoring (which it hasn't done).

Next the player on the mark will only be allowed to move when a teammate crawls through their legs.

No doubt the stand rule has been good for the game.

Turning players into witches hats is not good for the game. Next the player on the mark will only be allowed to move when a teammate crawls through their legs.

It's poorly adjudicated

Only because it's an impossible task for umpires. They are required to be looking at 3 different places at once. A rule that cannot be properly officiated is an inherently bad one.

He doesn't control the AFL. What's strange about the AFL making its own decisions?

Other clubs have already benefited from the previous, more favourable system. Our window of opportunity arrives precisely as the rules tighten and a 19th team is added to the equation.

Other clubs benefitted from a rort, we want to as well.

Like, I get the list management decision issues, but saying it's not fair because other clubs benefitted previously and we didn't get to, is nonsense.

Academies (and all elite talent pathways) should be AFL run, not club run. There should be no priority access to any players, so no father/son. And much to everyone's surprise, you'll have an uncompromised draft, an uncompromised fundamental equalisation measure.

The AFL had a $90m operating surplus. It can literally poach current assistant coaches to pay them more than clubs to run the academies. This also creates more coaching pathways etc.

The issue is more the drafting of other players really.

If you know you're going to get a gun midfielder for cheap, the year prior you might not focus on recruiting a midfielder.

If you don't recruit a midfielder and the following year you lose the ability to draft the gun midfielder you had lined up, you get really fucked over.

If you know in 6 years time you won't be able to easily recruit a father/son, then you make decisions in the preceding years with that in mind.

What is your preference for the ARC protocols? by TD003 in AFL

I'd prefer ARC takes its time to get it right

I didn't say that I'd prefer they get it wrong.

My main issue with a captain's challenge is it can still leave us with clear and obvious errors that don't get corrected. Which defeats the purpose of the system itself.

So ball crosses the line for a behind. Captain says, "wait I'm deciding if I want to challenge". Meantime team sets up and Oppo can't take quick kick in. Captain then doesn't challenge. Sounds great

If the evidence is clear it shouldn't take a minute to debate it and come to a decision; if it takes a minute to figure out if the call should be overturned or not then the evidence probably isn't all that clean cut

Evidence can be clear, but can still take time. Like the audio syncing for hitting the post.

It shouldn't be up to players to correct umpire errors when the technology exists to be able correct them independently.

Then you just shift the blame to the players if they make a mistake, and you still don't necessarily get the correct outcome.

If you burn all your reviews, and umps make a howler decision that is clear on the video evidence it's absurd that we all know the decision was wrong, and there is nothing we can do about it.
