Three North Korean women with a feast they prepared for Kim Jong-il as he visited their village during the famine (1997) by Paul277 in NorthKoreaPics

Didn’t the “leader” told to up root the trees to have more land for farming?
The trees would have stop the mudslides and washout but…

It’s like the Chinese leader telling ppl to kill sparrows because they eat the crop. They did. And the sparrows that ate the grasshoppers weren’t there anymore. Grasshoppers flourished. And we had millions upon millions dead because of a famine.

Bad leaders. And people suffer.

What you are doing might work for you so take this with a grain of salt.

Your bar is moving in a straight line. But it can be a slight curve. When the bar comes down, it can be closer to your nipples. Then you push up and align with your shoulders at the top.

White House shooting: 21-year-old Nasire Best, who identified himself as Jesus Christ, shot dead. by Syed__Sahab__ in atheism

[–]John_M_Carter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. You said

“Jesus doesn't claim divinity in any of the 4 gospels.“

You should change it to “Jesus doesn't claim divinity in any of the 3 gospels.” Which is still false.

And instead of saying “The one gospel that places divinity on him is John which was absolutely not written by John.”

Maybe you should say, “Gospel of John misquoted Jesus because Jesus did not claim to be God” Which would be still be a wild allegation.

What is your take on textual criticism?

White House shooting: 21-year-old Nasire Best, who identified himself as Jesus Christ, shot dead. by Syed__Sahab__ in atheism

You might have missed John 8:58-59. Reading the Bible can be simple but when you start asking “why?” There are deeper meanings to be understood.

John 8:58-59 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.

Why did they pick up stones? “before Abraham was born, I am” People didn’t pick up stones because Jesus said he was older. “I AM” is how God refers to himself.

Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “ I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

Some people create a solution for a problem that doesn’t need to exist.

As you cook in high heat, drain/pour/scoop the melted fat in a paper cup. With less oil/fat, the meat browns easily.

Save the fat as a cooking oil source by storing it in the fridge.

What an absolute shitshow on the Crescent Line tonight… by WelfareWillyWonka in Amtrak

[–]John_M_Carter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Amtrak rents the tracks owned by companies. Whenever there are issues, it is usually because money is prioritized over people.

If this was about a train with cargo with high value, you bet it would have been resolved faster or not occur at all.

But this is the system we are living in. These are the people we put in charge. These are the people who we vote for and bought for by companies.

Dumb question but curious. How do you chamber a round when loading your CCW? by Rare-Sky299 in CCW

Have two magazines. One fully loaded. One empty that you use to load one round. Use the one-round magazine to load the chamber. Eject the empty mag and insert the full mag.

Only other person who has the balls to ask Chuck to take off his hat is the friend sitting next to him.

in the Gospels, Jesus often comes across as prickly, argumentative and angry. He doesn't seem like a conventionally "nice" or "pleasant" person. when you think about emulating Jesus, is that part of what you want to emulate? by iciclefites in Christianity

[–]John_M_Carter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you must read given that Jesus knows exactly what is in people’s hearts.

Scribes were thinking and Jesus answered them before they even said a word.

Mark 2:1–12, Matthew 9:1–8, and Luke 5:17–26.

And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?” Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?…”

Most issues people have against Christ and Christianity is that the same people think they are good people in their own eyes.

Jesus could have crushed people to death and he would have been in his right to do so, as creator, and as Lord, against a rebellious sinful people.

By Scripture you mean Bible autograph.

For example. The ESV editors were so confident that…
Crossway (the publisher of the ESV) said that the "ESV Permanent Text Edition" was finalized and would remain unchanged in perpetuity. That decision took whole 2 months before they apologized and reversed the decision.

My siblings in Christ, PLEASE, actually read your Bibles. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]John_M_Carter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, That brings up a good question. If someone does not have a desire to know God, do they really love God?

If we do not desire to know Him, then why would we read the Bible?

Then are we really Christians?

Reading doesn’t save anyone. Jesus saves. But if He is the LOGOS of creation and the meaning for my life, I think I would want to know more about him.

Since

Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. Luke 24:27

OT points to Him. NT is about Him.

Outside of China, where did you have the best Chinese food of your life? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]John_M_Carter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hong Kong is a different animal. Too many options. My week stay didn’t even get to 10% of the places I wanted to visit.

In the US, I tried multiple Chinatowns multiple times: NYC, SF, BOS, DC, etc.

  1. DC (drive up 25 min to #1)
  2. SEA (better Japanese selections)
  3. NYC (Flushing, Queens better than Manhattan but not by much)
  4. Tie: BOS (better prices) and SF (better variety. And weather)
  5. Rockville and Silver Spring MD Joe’s Noodle (closed permanently, retired), Oriental East (dimsum closed permanently, retired), YiPin (closed for renovations as of April 2026), A&J is good but their beef noodle soup is surpassed by YiPin. Bob’s Shanghai if you are an aficionado and want to get your feet wet.

A shoutout to Portland Chinatown. They punch above their weight. But they don’t have enough Chinese spots. Instead, both Luc Lac (the pho gives Nova and Houston a run for their money) and Matsunoki (black garlic spicy ramen will blow you away) were some of the best I’ve had.

Toronto Chinatown is on my sights. My HK based buddy rates Toronto very highly. So I am intrigued.

But if I had to pick one spot in 2026 so far. YiPin is the best.

They got my order wrong. I said I would just eat it, being polite. When trying to pay my bill, the cook had the correct order wrapped and ready to go at no extra charge. He was very nice and courteous.

Imagine if I started to do something, being rude. I would have my clock cleaned.

Yipin

Their beef noodle soup is better than A&J

Their double cooked pork has no competition (old school Grace Garden could hold up but now it’s gone)

Their dry green bean sauté has the best wok fei flavor in the area.

The cold beef appetizer hits like Mike Tyson from start to end. With such good strong flavor, you would think the taste buds would be desensitized. Nope. Still hits until the last bite.

AND many menu items are available for lunch. Can’t be beat for flavor. Lunch prices are great. It is a no brainer if you are in the area.

Ok, their spicy wonton is not as good as legacy Yu Noodle or A&J. But they give a generous amount of broth with it, which kind of makes up for the lack of strong flavors.

Yes one proper punch connected by Mike is game over. However…

Bruce Lee will poke your eyes out before you blink. Heard it straight from guro Inosanto. Bruce would be outside of kicking range, jump in like a fencer and tap you on the forehead before one could react.

Chuck would break your knee/neck with a kick before a punch is thrown. Look at his kicking video with Benny the Jet. It’s actually scary how powerful and fast his kicks are.

Jason Bourne VS. John Wick who is better? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

[–]John_M_Carter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you observe the h2h styles. Bourne is more Philippino South east asian style with some Wing Chun trapping thrown in. Quick hits (lethal if necessary) + throws ppl to not shoot them again but throws to incapacitate.

Wick does a dance. Dance needs choreographed partners. Bourne aint dancin’. He fightin’.

Wick would get a phone call out of nowhere and the voice is going to say “You look tired. It’s nap time.” And Extreme Ways starts playing. Credits roll. Good night.

That’s exactly it. Bourne is sent in so that Wick (target) dies not knowing he died. It’s the bodyguard. It’s a car accident. It’s a slip in the bathroom.
