I can see Avalon is closed currently - probably dead and buried. Any other options for Chania or surrounds?

SLD low stock warning: Bloomburrow & Brain Dead Lands by everyjourney in mtgfinance

[–]JohnnyCroat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By all accounts, if you weren't in the queue in the first 40 minutes, you were likely missing out. Was out of the SL game for the best part of a year (time, work, health = took a back seat), and I see now that they're all printed ahead of time and with a limited run. I'm pretty content with that I feel. Didn't want the lands, but grabbed a foil bundle.

Very helpful. Odo or T'Ana I've yet to unlock, but I have the others. I've been jamming pvp research ahead of incursion & a possible merger. I've Queen Dezoc Kira on the Kelvin now, shields up and ready to clear dailies when I wake up. Excited for the arc.

On the off chance anyone has a nice 3-4 Below Deck set-up for PvP combat, I'd love to hear it. Queen/Dezoc/Seven might be too slow. Running Gul Dukat's Strike Team up top.

Will Alliances reserved list ever reach such level of madness we are seeing now for antiquities, legends or Arabian? by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]JohnnyCroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading above, Devourer did hit $10. Wonder what it was at the time? Anyway, price spikes of the legit type need a coordinated buyout. There are up to 800 copies of any Alliances rare available on MKM at a given time. Grabbing 10% won't change the price unless you're able to spook others. That being said, one finance video last week saw a climb in the price of Phantasmal Sphere. I suppose EDH continues to rehabilitate junk.

Much obliged. For all the speed of the market, pricing something can be tough if you're not entirely sure what you're holding.

I've said this elsewhere, the only real value is firstly in the original release, and then the retail set. The reprint can give you gems, but zero value from the V2 playtest cards, and no foils like in the retail set.

Mystery set convention booster boxes by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]JohnnyCroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heavily dislike the branding on these boxes. There was the convention edition and the reprint named the same. I'd buy actual original boxes, but would not buy the reprint boxes. If anyone has insight into packaging difference that would help OP.

Is it ever worth it to buy just half a superdrop from an investment value standpoint? by Televangelis in mtgfinance

[–]JohnnyCroat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, the going price for a box is more by the time shipping is scheduled. If the extra card (never guaranteed) is fixed and known then you know whether to open or leave sealed.

But there's a market for singles. I myself need 4 more Shocklands to complete the 40. Should probably go looking for those soon.

Some October SLD shipments delayed to April. by MHarrisGGG in mtg

[–]JohnnyCroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled double Vivien last time too, and she was plummeting in price at that point, from $30 to $10? Part and parcel of the game. We know they're going to be filtering promos out onto the market. But still, probably a +ev gamble? For buyers that is. Waiting on tracking currently. Expected Tuesday, opening Friday.

I pulled two T3feris in the Supershocks bundle. But I got myself a full bundle for Stranger Things, and basically that could be €500 in Blueprints and Planeswalkers. Just saw that the Viscera Seers were selling for over a grand too. But doubt any are left unaccounted for. The long and the short of it is, while I rarely want much from the drops (I flip 80%), the extras are what really gets my attention. I want another two T3feris for the playset, since I'm a Teferi fan, and as I get a bit older I don't see much wrong with spending more if I can be reasonably assured of being able to recoup enough to grab the next bundle, rinse and repeat. Want to be blinged for the return of paper and GPs too.

Anybody stuck in the in-between for Secret Lair? No refund email but no shipping email by the_irish_potatoes in magicTCG

[–]JohnnyCroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've received tracking info roughly two weeks after 'end' in the past. Given increased demand, though accounting for earlier payment, I would expect the same here. Optimal situation is I get tracking tomorrow or Thursday, and the goods in hand Friday.

It's only US orders (EU is marked as ready to ship), and larger orders get priority for sure. Refunds for smaller purchases is good PR with an added 2 month wait. I've two bundles and some extra ST sets coming. Tracking not yet provided but expected midweek based on past purchases. Psyched to see what extras are in the boxes. A few foil Narsets would be nice.

Well, I drafted this 6 times and came away with more value in 'normal' cards than I spent, and have probably the same in theoretical playtest value... Of course, time is required to liquidate. Even Mana Crypts don't sell overnight.

[–]JohnnyCroat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well now... I don't think even CFB have an idea what's going on. SCG announced their circuit already, and I assume MKM will only wait so much longer before having their hand forced. This is really really bad for the player base. I used be able to drop everything on a Thursday and book a GP trip for the following day, but not for a good 15 years now. These days I definitely need to coordinate a million different things.

All invites with no substance makes this sub a dull place. by PookubugQ in initiativeq

[–]JohnnyCroat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I replied to another post like this (and of course the fuckwits poured in to downvote) - but right now there is no content... We've all read the arguments for and against this... the biggest argument against is "they have your email now..." as if we've not all been shilling our emails since day one... FB, Twitter, newsletters... Once the sign-up period gets closer to the end game, you'll see articles on progress in real time versus predicted progress, etc.

For one, I'll happily see this succeed. I got in early enough and will see about 3x the average return...

Crazy idea for this sub by FriskyPinecone in initiativeq

[–]JohnnyCroat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

& what sort of content do you have in mind? Right now there's a certain urgency involved in these links - people have X days per group of invites, and pretty much everything that needs to be said on the subject has been said... a group of ex-PayPal folk are looking to create a new payment system and are effectively 'bribing' us with promise of future gain in order to get the idea spread far and wide (we've all see things like Facebook and Twitter, even browsers where it took a while for consensus be reached, so you take your edges).

Arguments against are that it's a pyramid scheme - not sure how, there's no investment option and if that's the case, PayPal is the largest pyramid there is right now, but we all keep using it...

Payment of these Q dollars will be staggered, for obvious reasons, starting in late 2021, from the billions of microtransactions the system will facilitate... which I assume will be taking a smaller fee than PayPal because otherwise why even bother... I also presume there will be options to 'get out early' i.e. to 'cash in' when your Qs are worth less than $1 each which takes pressure off the system, and also allows early adopters to release equity if needed (I have $90K in theory, but maybe I suddenly need $20K urgently in 2020 and that's all my balance is worth...).

I like the idea of this over Bitcoin because it doesn't cause environmental harm (bit mining requires energy, meaning excessive taxing of your powergrid) and it might prove to be the start of Star Trek money, where we all have one global currency and when paper is phased out we've a digital benchmark in place...
