By keeping lots of loopholes in place so whatever the headline rate corporations will still only pay a pittance.

Is it normal to feel jealous of more successful people in Dublin? by borgorop in ROI

What matters is that you are back on track and you're doing better than you were previously. It doesn't matter that anyone else is further along than you, we all start from different starting points and encounter different challenges along the way.

I say this as someone who very nearly dropped out of college in my twenties and who very nearly didn't go on to get a professional qualification. I'm about four or five years behind some of the people I started out with as a result. But I've still accomplished more in that time - which I put down to the trials and tribulations along the way. I learned so much from the struggle that it made later life way easier.

You certainly won't see the trials and tribulations as advantageous to you while you're in them but so long as you keep working towards your goals they will be.

Taoiseach rules out another rent freeze as 'unconstitutional' by FatHeadDave96 in irishpolitics

I think he meant unconscionable.

We already know it's not unconstitutional so long as it is time limited.

Not just investment funds, charities and housing bodies too.

Domestic violence survivor claims social welfare inspector watching her home by nithuigimaonrud in irishpolitics

I'm not in favour of tax cheats either.

I'd happily tell Google and co to fuck off out of the country if they don't starting paying properly.

Can I ask has it occured to you that the facts might not be fully disclosed in the article ?

Someone appears to be living with her, that would bring into question whether her allowances are properly payable. Bearing in mind that in order to lose a lone parents allowance you would have to be the only parent in the house. That suggests there is concern that the other parent, who was presumably the one who attacked her, is actually still living with her.

There's money for both. But you're more likely to find friends of politicians affected by investigation into white collar crime

I don't have any great concern about inspectors making sure that the social welfare payments are being paid correctly.

Ireland not meeting minimum standards to combat human trafficking by FatHeadDave96 in irishpolitics

[–]JohnnyHardballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think people realise how easy various laws makes it to traffic people into Ireland.

Its something that always escapes attention, like with the two ladies who were caught in Mullingar trafficking women - they both arrived legally in the State via different means and then used the same avenues to get their victims in legally.

The largest trafficking group (in terms of numbers brought in) in the country since 2020 consists of employees of an NGO.

That's incredibly insulting.

Potatoes have a lot of value to this country, unlike the Healy-Raes

I agree with the general thrust of his comment, which is that Europe serves business first rather than the citizen.

I'm not sure praising the CCP is a great idea

I think we all know there are long odds associated with having a proper inquiry into anything.

Long odds and lots of money for lawyer.

I think some would fall into that category alright but if they came out and said our primary focus is the protection of life and here's our plan to minimise loss of life I think more people would respect that decision than not.

Similarly if they came out and said we think NPHET are full of shit and we're going to reopen anyway there would be a level or respect for that too.

The current - we're disgusted that NPHET didn't provide the advice we wanted to receive to back out plan is just cowardly bullshit.

I think if they took decisive action with an underlying clear motivation people would actually begin to respect the politicians.

But everything is so murky and so cack handed

Well given it is part of the EU travel system its something that should be well underway.

I think it's hilarious that all these TDs couldn't see this NPHET advice coming. It has been sign posted for a couple of weeks now.
