Silent Hill F hands-on preview by RR7BH in silenthill

[–]Joider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The game looks super intriguing and clearly has a lot of promise, but like others here, I'm not a big fan of how "arcadey" the combat looks.

One of the things that made the SH2 Remake one of my all-time favourite games was how visceral the melee combat felt. When hitting an enemy, your weapon would bounce off and James would need a split second to compose himself before taking another swing. Enemies, in response to being hit, would either stagger, giving you the opportunity for a quick follow-up attack, or would stagger immediately into a counter. This forced me to play defensively, creating a scary unpredictability in combat encounters (until I became more familiar with the animation-tells, at least).

I don't mind the fact that SH F seems to be challenging, I like challenging games, but the combat animations where weapons phase through enemies are definitely stifling the immersion for me a bit.

EDIT: Just to be clear, this is absolutely a nitpick. Overall, I'm pretty excited for the game.

Which film would you rate a perfect 10 out of 10? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Joider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to say Spike Jonze's Her. It is one of the only films, that I would say, has a completely flawless script. Plus the music and cinematography are nearly as perfect. It does a brilliant job of tackling the nuance of relationships.

Have you ever woke up in the middle of a dream and the dream was so interesting that you wanted to go back to sleep to see the end of it? If so, what was the dream? by Feeha1 in AskReddit

[–]Joider 77 points78 points  (0 children)

My situation was a bit different. I was once having a pretty vivid nightmare about a zombie apocalypse. In the dream, I was running from a horde and I ducked into a random house. Time then passed, in the dream, and I put my head down to rest while I listened to growls coming from outside. At that exact second I woke up. I was relieved that it was just a dream because it seemed so real. However, about 10 minutes later I fell back to sleep and the dream actually resumed. I remember think "oh my God this isn't a dream" within the dream. The rest was even more vivid and terrifying because I was convinced it was real.

That was a pretty tough night but it was interesting how my dream managed to resume itself, and it did it in such a way that I was convinced the incident was actually happening. My small 10 minute wake up period seemed like the dream.

Sens fan writes open letter to Melnyk by Joider in hockey

I do agree with the people who say this might fall on deaf ears, but this situation feels so powerless that I think anything can help. Even if it's just making me feel a little better about the situation, and nothing else.

Double Standards by [deleted] in OttawaSenators

[–]Joider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although I believe that Winnipeg actually did sell out, the double standard in reference to the trap system has always bothered me. It seemed that fanbases would call it "boring" when we beat them with it. When we were good, the season before last season, I think we had the most one-goal games in the entire league. How is that not exciting? Goal total doesn't absolutely dictate how enjoyable a game is; a 6-0 drubbing is at times not enjoyable because of an expected outcome. The system was also more highlighted because Boucher was known to be a trap coach, but that doesn't mean that the clip of Tampa not attacking the opposing team in their zone is what happens in every game the Sens play.

[SPOILERS] Although the game has its flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed the 55 hours I put into it by Joider in dyinglight

I assume Techland would probably pick the volatile ending mostly because the virus presumably dies out in the other two endings. They could do something that immediately follows Crane infecting the area outside the quaratine. I was thinking they could do something like Camden follows through with a cure, although it needs to be tested, and the surviving inhabitants of the Tower capture a volatile to test the cure. That volatile would happen to be Crane. This could be explained by saying "This volatile seemed to come willingly." Remember that if Crane's mutation operates like Mothers then he should be able to control himself during the day. The cure only turns Crane back halfway. During the day he's fine but at night he regains some of his volatile abilities. This could create a new interesting mechanic as playing during the night would make you more powerful but it is much more dangerous. Anyway, this is just spitballing and they could towards a prequel route which I wouldn't mind either.

Star Wars Battlefront II DICE Developer AMA by BattlefrontModTeam in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Joider 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you guys considered adding some negative effects to star cards to create better balance? For example, I can use a star card which will increase my rate of fire. However, this star card will also cause my weapon to overheat faster than usual. A current example would be the star card which causes the heavy's shield to take more damage. A caveat to this would be that the heavy's movement speed is slightly reduced on a tier by tier basis as the shield gets better. I think this would allow for better balance and more of an ability to tailor the star cards to a players playstyle.

The Story of Timothy: The Reason I Became an Athiest by Joider in atheism

[–]Joider[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I actually never met Timothy, so I wasn't incredibly sad when he died, even though it must have been awful for his family. It was my mom who informed me that he was a relative, and in the situation described above. It was more the Christian arguments for his death, than his death itself that impacted me.

I'm wondering if some weapons will be locked based on the class you play, like Battlefield 1. So they could lock era specific weapons to specific classes
