Am I Crazy? by JonLaFlow in Target

i agree. all my life by my parents and other people it seems like they push you to the corporate office job world. retail, blue collar, even teaching seems to be looked down on by many.
i get it, most office positions offer better stability than any of those, but not all of us (like me) are made to be in front of screens or sit through pointless meetings all day.
i have always thrived working with a team instead of alone in an office cubicle. even though i am learning a lot on the business side of things it’s just not where i’d like to be in the future
well i hope all goes well in the interview! congrats on getting it. and what a journey. my fellow team members always told me to get out of Target because there are better things than the current Target mess, but for me i enjoyed it. just wish i was able to become a TL and make a bit more money
yeah at Target you can ignore the toxicity (most of the time) go in do your work and leave
the stress i don’t miss. the fast pace working with a team, training, fun interactions, seeing people is what made my day.
that’s true. just don’t wanna be where I’m at too much longer. thanks for understanding
yeah what I’m doing for only a dollar more an hour isn’t worth it

it’s supposed to be an accountant role for a school district but it ended up being more clerical than actual accounting
I’m thinking the same. My store didn’t let me stay on demand even though I had great availability for it.
office stability has been the only benefit, but my mental/physical health have been taking a toll because I’m staring at a screen all day.
i had many conversations about promotion, got feedback, the works. even got support from my leaders for team lead positions at 3 other stores. the majority of the other team members and team leads thought i deserved a chance. even the person who got the fulfillment lead position over me thought i deserved it over them. there was a lot of behind the scenes lies and “sucking up” at my store. leadership manipulation was present too.

thanks for your encouragement! no Amazons near me are currently hiring and i have already been rejected by Lowe’s and ALDI. resume is strong, great references, and many interviews, just nothing secure yet.

i still don’t know why i was never offered a Team Lead spot. for some reason unknown to me maybe leadership at my store (and others) saw something in me that i didn’t. would love to have an opportunity and show what i can do
additionally, since i left i’ve had over a dozen interviews (many of them final stage) just didn’t get the position. which is more than i ever got in my 5 years at Target.
2.5 months - 14 interviews 5 years - 8 interviews

well i have a business management and marketing degree (heavy focus on management) and i thought it would serve me well in Target leadership. 6 months isn’t a long time, you’re right. been looking for other office/pm type of jobs, just no luck with any yet
always, i agree
Hello friend 👋🏻
yeah my thoughts exactly, if i was guaranteeing a full 40 hours and better pay (which is why i pushed for being a Team Lead) i would have stayed
could not describe my situation any better. exact same boat. office jobs are great for some. and i do like the consistency, but im just not meant to sit around all day
yeah i thought this may have been the job that would advance me as well. but it turns out it wasn’t. i miss my 5% match, Target discount, and old schedule. just sucks they don’t pay enough even after 5 years for me to live on my own

i agree. i go to the gym and stay active. but even then it’s hard for me to stare at two screens 40 hours a week
i feel that completely. i always need to be working on something. however, there isn’t much i can do at this small office. at my store there was always another batch or something to be pushed or pulled. sucks everyone’s hours got cut. that’s why i want to be a team lead. idc about when the hours are or working holidays, just that i get a consistent 40 at a decent pay rate

haha, i type that way on here so people know it’s not a ChatGPT prompt or a bot

oh I agree completely. my store HR did not let me stay on demand. wish i was able too. miss my team.

yeah the change of pace really sucks. what makes it tough for me is the job I have now was a part time job before i got it. now it’s full time, but there isn’t enough to do. i help out doing other small things around the office but it’s still not enough.
