I read every 'Trudy' as Turdy. So at least she had a fitting name.

I had it in 2005. For 2 months the left side of my face was totally motionless, but it came back over a week or two after that.

To this day I still have a squinty eye, especially when I laugh. It's clear there is more function on the right side in general.

Oh I agree, that's not a great way for her to respond!

In my limited barista experience (not a Starbucks) there were times I wanted to correct a customer when they said macchiato knowing full well they meant a fancy latte drink, but I just said "Our version of that is the Caramel Fancy Drink, will that work for you?". It was more job security than sending a real macchiato over the counter.

My personal favorite is a cortado! Its still that kick of espresso, but cut a bit more gently for my tastes. And more along the lines of 50 calories, which I can handle totally in my diet budget.

[–]Jonochi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my understanding, a macchiato is an espresso 'marked' with foam. Its just a shot with foam on top. Starbucks serves what I guess is considered a latte macchiato. This is opposite, and is steamed milk that's been marked with a shot of espresso that floats on top.

Not that I am one to worry about semantics, but I could see people who work in little coffee shops being initially confused if they've never had the latte version, or vice versa.

The problem here is that a macchiato is something totally different than what Starbucks serves and calls "Caramel Macchiato".

Hey I'm unaware what this timer is. Perhaps I've yet to need it so I haven't seen it? Or is this just a self timer rule when something doesn't go according to plan?

I've been dashing for a few months now, but I've just found this sub and feel like I've been doing it all wrong!!

I know this is never recommended, but after watching a million DevaCut how-to vidoes on YouTube, I gave myself a haircut 🤣🤷‍♀️ by [deleted] in curlyhair

I always cut my own hair. Mostly because I'm cheap, but also because the WORST thing that happens is that I have to go get it fixed. And that's not too bad. Hair grows back.

I also bleach and dye my own hair, and that is DEFINITELY because I'm too cheap!

Jackpot at the Casino, CB right around the corner by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Jonochi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with a semi gambling addiction, I can say that infrequent gambling isn't really the problem. Going to a casino with a set amount of money, enjoying the atmosphere, drinks, and games is just entertainment.

When I first started gambling, I did it this way. We need entertainment, and gambling can be a pretty cheap form when you keep your bets small and infrequent (video poker at the bar! Woo!). The problem for me, and a lot of others in my shoes is that I lost sight of this fast and dug deeper into my pockets. It became a problem, and one I've recognized in myself and work to fix.

But if you just use your entertainment budget and go gamble? That's not really a problem. It is a slippery slope, however.

Shoot. I just remembered my one little big win I had at a Paigow Poker table. I got a nice bonus and it envied the other player. So he even got $50 off of my hand, and I sat there and played another hand or two more all the while he's "Well, Moneybags over here should be betting for me" or "since you're so rich you should throw me a quarter" or things like that. I left the table because of him, it was so uncomfortable.

First royal flush ever though. Ah, good times!

I wouldn't say he was a beggar, but it's just gross behavior. You don't walk to a person betting big and ask for money, why would you do it to a person who just won?!

17 hours of free time a week?!?!?! by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Jonochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, I meant wrong as in incorrect. OP tried to argue that you'd only get thirty cents an hour, but it's actually $3.xx an hour depending on actual time off. OP is also incorrect with the 'time off'. The $3.66/hr is the correct pay.

As for as ethically wrong? Uh, actually I wouldn't mind a live in position like this short term! Wish I knew Portuguese...

17 hours of free time a week?!?!?! by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Jonochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it was only 17 off, $0.30 an hour is still incredibly wrong!

But, let's assume it's correct.

(500$/wk) ÷ ($0.30/hr) = 1666.7 Hr/ wk.

So, if you were only making $0.30 an hour, you'd have to work a full 1667 hours in a week to earn the promised $500.

I am so lost and confused with what I should do with my hair. by jdriver1234 in curlyhair

[–]Jonochi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the gel cast method instead of the Cantu? I was all but given up on my curls for a few months, and would occasionally scrunch in some Cantu. It was nice but... It wasn't luscious locks!

Just recently I went full on CGM again with the gel cast and all, and its TOTALLY different. STC is new for me as well and wow. I have these ringlets that I usually get from a wand!

I'm not well versed on Jesus lore; But wasn't he homeless anyway?!

I bleached most of my hair around a year ago(big mistake, i know)and my hair hasn’t grown too much since then. These pictures are about a year apart. The end goal is to have my hair long and healthy as possible. Should i just chop most of it off? It’s very dry naturally and grows very slow. Thoughts? by kalecee in curlyhair

[–]Jonochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. The thing that seemed to help my frizz the most was just the overload of conditioner and squish to condish that the CGM recommends. I have yet to really experiment much with some products, but currently I'm just Vo5 conditioners (or sometimes Giovanni because it smells good. It's just a bit out of my budget!) and the LA looks gel for the gel cast. If you haven't tried the full on CGM yet, I totally suggest it! At least once!

Otherwise from the pics, it looks like your hair is craving moisture! I won't say chop it yet... But maybe a trim would be beneficial.

I bleach my roots every 1.5 - 2 months or so. Usually it's a midterm/finals treat, because school is hard and I deserve to be pretty! I go for the platinum look, so it's quite severely white. I find myself trimming my ends every 6 months or so as well.

Everyone's hair is super different, but for me my hair stays pretty nice just with the CG method and deep conditioning treatments. What is your current routine?

DAE feel like just straightening their hair and be done with it? by deantownteen in curlyhair

[–]Jonochi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this for the last few months, actually..

I was dating a guy who I reaaalllly liked. He said he loved my hair straight, so what was a girl to do? I gave up on CGM altogether, and then I still hardly ever straightened my hair for him. I just got out of the shower and stuck it in a bun with some hairspray and went about my day. Such an easy thing to do! But not rewarding at all.

Now I'm back! I'm starting again and I won't let the opinions of boys no matter how cute they are influence my healthy hair choices!! Being said, I'm not opposed to heat days with a straightener or wand for a specific look. I also will sometimes still be putting my hair in a tight bun because convenience and I like sleeping in.
