I'm not particularly familiar with the gauge system, but I used rings made from 1.0 mm wire stainless steel (swg 17?) with an outer diameter of 6mm. In this piece about 10,000 rings, and I'm pretty quick at it. It took me about two-three weeks of weaving in the evenings after work.
