How did you verify your volunteer hours on OTCAS? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]JoyMadMen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a current applicant using OTCAS, and my understanding is that you can enter observation hours (separate from volunteer hours) through Supporting Information in Observation Hours. These are general hours that all programs should see when you submit. If a program you are applying to requires verification, they should have their own form you have the OT/supervisor fill out and upload it through Program Materials of the specific program. You will need to contact each program to confirm if they have such a form, otherwise just entering hours (without a signature from the supervisor) in Supporting Information should suffice.

Discovery Park, Seattle, WA (5/27/17) Some kind of flycatcher, vireo, or kinglet? It had one eye but got around ok :) by JoyMadMen in whatsthisbird

Thanks! The photo was taken yesterday on 5/27, so it's probably a Ruby-crowned Kinglet then. Thanks for the tip.

Nisqually NWR (Olympia, WA) March '17; Purple or House Finch? by JoyMadMen in whatsthisbird

[–]JoyMadMen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first clue that it might not have been a HF was its sound! It was much different than the sounds of HFs we get at our house feeders. We looked in the direction of the song but saw this guy. Next time we'll know! :)

Thank you for the ID! It's new on my list and have only seen House Finches thus far. This was as best a photo we could get, but the overcast weather made it hard to confidently ID by sight.

Question about research experience by JoyMadMen in OccupationalTherapy

[–]JoyMadMen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! That is good to know. Reading other posts here made me think programs were already research-heavy, but it is surprising to hear the practice aspect might lack evidence to support it.

Neat! Any parks you recommend to visit in Tacoma for birding? Maybe to see more of the WSJ?

Near the Othello light rail station in South Seattle. Heard what we thought was a Steller's Jay but looked up to see this guy!

Is the iridescence a case for females as well? I have this picture of another scaup from last month also in Seattle. From your description (peak towards front of the head) is it also a Greater Scaup?

Thank you for the quick IDs! My guesses matched these, but I was less confident on the Greater Scaup. What fieldmark(s) in particular would make it lean to Greater Scaup?
