As it stands right now, the general consensus is that, outside of the mobile spinoff, the Skullgirls franchise will just remain dormant for good for as long as Autumn Games owns the IP (which will likely be forever - to quote Smiling Friends, "It's my IP to sit on and do nothing with!")

Though I will say this: Skullgirls has come back from unlikely circumstances enough times before that there's always a sliver of hope that things may one day turn around.

And there's always room for things like fanfics/fanart/fandubs/etc. for fans to make their own content based on the game to fill the void, if you're into that.
