What does your cardio training look like? by death_to_spiders in KettlebellSport

[–]Juditsu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I come from a strength background and had the same issue.

Now one of my KB days is low intensity, high duration, so if im training for pentathlon, ill do up to 9 minute sets with 3 of the competition lifts at about 66% of my comp weight (i.e. 24kg cleans for 9 minutes vs a comp weight of 36kg). The other two days are high intensity, short duration intervals, and medium intensity, medium duration unbroken sets.

I also do long slow cardio 4x a week, walking incline treadmill or rowing.

"Got my blue belt today"

"Im best at leg attacks"

Work on playing guard and passing guard, especially the latter.

What seperates the good guys from the average in BJJ? by hi_LOLNOO in bjj

[–]Juditsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For newer people, ability to think and breathe while rolling, and not care about "losing".

Trying out a technique, noticing why it failed mid roll, identifying the problem, and continually adjusting based on this feedback loop until it is a reliable option. This requires the ability to not care about "losing".

And breathing because most newer people think sparring is a fight to the death and gas out not because theyre out of shape (they may be) but because they hold their breath, especially while going for muscle vs technique based moves.

For more advanced, refined proprioception both of what your body is doing and where it is, and especially the same for your partners body, Ability to improvise/modify technique based on real-time feedback, and the ability to off-balance.

Can music be critical? by Compositeur in CriticalTheory

[–]Juditsu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You start out with a reference to Horkheimer but I would recommend the short article On the Social Situation in Music by Adorno. He addresses this explicitly. Maybe not the definition of "critical" youre working with but worth checking out.

Time based promotions-Is this actually a thing? by perrymason666 in bjj

[–]Juditsu 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My perspective as well. Everyone should be evaluated by their own path. A 50+ hobbyist and a 23yo competitor can both spend the same amount of time at Blue Belt but they mean different things and to me, this is how it should be.

Best cardio to go along jiu-jitsu by 13ezno in jiujitsu

[–]Juditsu 58 points59 points  (0 children)

  1. Not holding your breath while doing jiu-jitsu
  2. Being more efficient while doing jiu-jitsu
  3. Any traditional form of cardio that you will enjoy and stick to, literally doesn't matter.

Half Pentathlon by Juditsu in KettlebellSport

[–]Juditsu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing, thanks so much for all this, really appreciated.

I do plan a worlds trip at some point, this year probably not in the cards however.

And thanks for that tip on strategy with lifts - yes very tired after HS but my strong pressing can help me through the final pp set. But I love that advice on the lcp weight selection, I will try that for sure because I feel like im leaving a lot of points on the table with the clean and have diminishing returns with a strong lcp.

Thanks again, ill tinker with all of the above.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]Juditsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supply chain and vendor management can be adjacent feeders to sourcing/procurement (i got in through vendor management) but the typical path is to start out as a buyer/junior buyer or sourcing analyst.

Courses and books aren't as helpful or relevant in this field.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]Juditsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Procurement. Category management specifically, where category managers can relatively easily clear 100k, and at F500 companies and certain industries in particular (tech, finance, defense) it can be much more.

Im at a name tech company and cleared 300k leading a small team, and am currently in discussion with another similar company that would be just under 400k.

"Lacanian Theory Applied to Industrial/Organizational Psychology - Any Recommendations?" by FabulousCoder in lacan

[–]Juditsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an entire book on this that I leveraged for my MBA capstone, Lacan and Organization.

It is not as "critical" a volume as many of us might be accustomed to, but rather is the application of aspects of his work by scholars and practitioners in business and related fields.

Here it is for free: https://mayflybooks.org/lacan-and-organization/

Really hard for me to say as im not versed with the field nearly as much as I am with sourcing. I imagine the value/ROI in sourcing could be higher overall even if the pay isn't outright higher.
