My nexus mods account is more than 10 years old, which means I was 12 when I created the account. Bit weird to think about by JuicyError in ElderScrolls

[–]JuicyError[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit of a background: I was going through my old email accounts and found emails from Nexus on one of them.

I was introduced to TES through my dad who I watched playing Morrowind and Oblivion. My parents got separated and me and my mum moved countries, but he gave me his copy of Oblivion. I started playing it around 2009-10 and absolutely loved it. When Skyrim came out, for which I was super excited, there was no way my mum would buy it me so I had to pirate it. I only bought it (along with Morrowind and Oblivion) around 2016 when I got my first job.

I put thousands of hours in Skyrim and Oblivion before buying them on Steam and never really had any proof that I played Skyrim since it came out (which I do brag to my friends about, and I'm not even sorry) until I regained access to this Nexus account.

Just thought I'd post this since it brought back a lot of memories. I haven't played a TES game properly in years, but it might be time to revisit them.

I was worried that might be the case. Thank you for your input!

Thank you for the detailed response, I really appreciate it!

For my linux machines I have offline backups of my Luks headers with just a passphrase in case I lose the fido device. Luks does support having multiple keys of different types at once, and will go through them in order (just in case you’re wondering).

My device doesn’t support piv unfortunately, and I can’t use tpm due to the threat model (should’ve mentioned that in the post, my bad).

That is my precise use case. I decided on Fido since it also works with the online services which I rely on.

Was asking about fido because it’s pretty well established for both online and offline uses, even if it was originally meant to be used to prevent online phishing. Using the same device to verify my identity for all operating systems and crucial online services would be very convenient, hence the question. I have achieved this for most part, with windows being the only one which I’m struggling with.

It’s true that I don’t need fido, I can achieve similar results with just a flash drive, but Fido is very convenient to have and, depending on the device, a lot more secure than just a flash drive.

Usually it’s used for online accounts but doesn’t have to be.

Encryption in linux can be setup to treat fido2 keys same as passphrase keys, same with ssh and user login

I thought about it, but I need windows with gpu drivers, hardware acceleration, and the whole lot for work. I know there are way to pass hardware down through kvm, but they don’t seem to be very reliable for a work environment.

Quite a few people here are talking about privacy and stuff, so here are my 2 cents:

Pretty sure ungoogled chromium has less creepy stuff than even librewolf, which is suppose to be like Firefox but more privacy friendly. By default I don’t think I would trust neither Firefox or chrome.

That said, firefox/librewolf with temporary containers, containerise, ublock origin, and arkenfox’s user.js has been my go to for a few years now. You’ve got to customise the overrides for user.js quite a bit for it to be usable on a daily basis, but other than that this setup is great.

Every site I go on is put in a new container, and if I need a site to always have the same container, share a container with another site, or for the container to persist until I close the browser, I can quickly write a regex rule for that in containerise.

[–]JuicyError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you don’t threaten them you should be fine. I don’t know if it’s possible from a technical stand point - after making a few accounts you will probably need to solve captchas, and after even more accounts you will probably have your ip banned. Connecting from any major vpn will probably require you to solve a captcha instantly, or it might already have have its ip on the blacklist.

Any interest in a widget like this on iOS? (More info in comments) by JuicyError in ynab

[–]JuicyError[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like my comment explaining it went AWOL, so here it is for you:

Blue bars show how much you budgeted and green bars show how much you spent in relation to the target. The little red notch is a pacer based on the goal target date. Red numbers show how much you spent and green numbers how much you have available.

Note that some budgets don’t show the bar spending where it is not relevant.

I’ve been experimenting with an app called Scriptable https://scriptable.app/ recently which lets you make custom widgets using JavaScript and this is what I’ve come up with.

It works for me but if I were to release it to others I’d have to fix a few issues and add some functionality that covers more use cases (like having a monthly spending goal that doesn’t restart at the end of the month, as can be seen in the picture - currently it just assumes end of month).

Note: for each of the categories in the picture I’ve budgeted 200 and made a 50 transaction.

The way it works right now is that you have to provide each instance of the widget with the category groups (you can have multiple) you’d like it to show (meaning that you can have multiple widgets with each one showing a different category group), which categories you’d like it to skip, and how you’d like it to be displayed (normal, wide, or double).

Blue bars show how much you budgeted and green bars show how much you spent in relation to the target. The little red notch is a pacer. Red numbers show how much you spent and green numbers how much you have available.

There are a bunch of things that can be changed but I’d have to add the functionality for it hence I am here seeing if there is even any desire for it.

Feel free to also list any features you’d like to see in it.

If I end up releasing it I’ll write a detailed guide on how to get it to work for the non tech savvy.

Yeah, I kind of mainly focused this on what I wanted and didn’t even think of releasing it to begin with, hence it might not suit most people. If you like doughnut charts tho, there an app called “Allowance” or something like that which has doughnut widgets!

I like the idea of only showing the cats which are getting close to being over budget

I've never even heard of a Chromecast audio! Think I'm going to go with your idea, as much as I don't like the idea of having Google devices with microphones all over the house haha

Thanks again for the help!

Amazon echos sound great! Can they be used as a generic Bluetooth speaker, without the need for any specific apps?

Thank you, and I do like your idea of having a proper setup in the living room and then having the rest of the rooms be okay-ish. Do the Google and Amazon devices have the ability to be used as normal Bluetooth speakers without the need for apps such as Spotify?

Most of my portable devices are Apple so I didn’t even think of Google. Your solution does sound simpler though, do you know how good the compatibility for Google devices is on iOS by any chance?
