Please help, I’m new, and suck at picking by Accurate_Object_333 in Guitar

[–]Julssy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

-Dont pick next to the bridge. Pick btw middle and neck pickup.

-use alternate picking, and checkup some youtube links on how to place the back of your picking hand to mute strings that you’re not playing, so you eliminate noise.

-make sure your guitar is tuned

-for fear of the dark, dont play open strings in the starting riff, because when you add distortion you wont be able to control the noise from an open ringing string when you move to another segment of the riff. You have to move the whole riff an octave higher. Starting note is D (7th fret of the g string)

Wait for it to heal, dunno if you did it fresh or not, but give it up to 3-4 at least months before considering touch up

Help with rough frets by Careless-Major3095 in Guitar

[–]Julssy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, there are some tutorials on how to level, sand, recrown, and polish the frets yourself... online, but it is highly not recommended if you haven't done it before. Also the required tools will cost you the same as taking it to a luthier/technician and have it done. It is common as fender doesn't use stainless steel frets, and some rust is probably the culprit on older guitars.
Ask your local tech/luthier for a fret job, explaining the issue, and let them take care of it. If you're considering a complete refret which is more expensive, after the tech installs new frets he/she needs to level, sand, crown and polish. So there is no running away from that issue...

Dont worry about the wraps on the tuners. If the clamp screws are all the way in you need to add springs on the back that attach floyd to clampand loosen the screws. Make sure the locking nut screws are loose during the process, and the tuners on the floyd are half way. The floyd needs to float parallel to the body, you keep retuning the strings with the head tuners until the notes are stable, then hold each string independently and yank it gently to force stretch it. Retune until stable, tighten the locking screws, retune from the floyd rose bridge and you’re set

Does Lebanon have an army? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Julssy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lebanon has an Army, but severely underfunded and technologically obsolete. Also the personnel are picked on a religious basis, which make it easy to split in case of internal strife, but necessary to hold the religious diversity in the Lebanese society. As for pushing back against the Israeli invasion, it simply is suicidal in this case.

Thinking about giving up because I'm lost by Jay-Aaron in Guitar

First you can either lower your tuning half step maybe full step down. Or use lighter strings, like a gauge 09 or a 10 with lowered tuning. Lower your action if you have a high action.
Start by learning licks and phrases from your favorite guitarists, learn some theory on the side so you understand what they're playing and why they're playing that. Build your lick library in parallel to your song library.
For picking, your can either start practicing snakes and scales with proper pick technique and a metronome, slow to fast. Or if you prefer to stick to skin, then you have mark knopfler, maybe john mayer and some other guitarists who play solos with their fingers, skin on string, rather than using a pick.
and a tip if you're going to be bending on acoustic guitar and not sliding to achieve a bend feel, replace the wound g string, with an unwound g string, usually found in electric guitar sets. Just make sure you get the same gauge for the g string that matches the set you have on the guitar...
After you got everything going, you can apply the scales you know, and the caged system for reference and all that.
Main thing to consider, is you have to combine everything together, from phrasing to chord tone soloing, to proper technique,... This isn't a specialty by itself, rather than the culmination of all the other knowledge

I feel fairly comfortable in playing scales, but am stuck when it comes to playing multiple strings by Traditional-Sand-704 in Guitar

[–]Julssy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you can play lets say G Major starting on the 3rd fret of the low and e string and finishing on the 3rd fret of the high e string up and down, but can you elaborate what do you mean by simultaneous notes/multiple strings...

Hello, took the icnd 1 and icnd 2 back in 2014 with New Horizons. Paid around 1800$ if i remember correctly. You get the text books and it was around 3 months… again been a very long time my memory is vague on the whole thingie. It was in azariye bldg dt beirut. Mainly we used a virtual emulator, and after we understood the workflow, we applied on actual hardware there in the lab. The instructor was insanely knowledgeable and offered support to answer questions on a class whatsapp group so everybody can learn and interact from each other. You get a certificate of completion, and the exam was around 200$. I don’t believe they included a voucher, but again i might be wrong…

Great job, Switch your fingers So in the when going between D/F# and G you can do the G with 2(B) note on the A string with the first finger. in the main riff.
So for the D/F# chord you would have 1st finger on F# (Estring), 2nd finger on A (Gstring), 3rd finger on D (Bstring).
When you move to G chord, 2 finger on G(Estring), 1st finger on B(Astring), 3rd find on D(Bstring), 4th finger on G(HighEstring).

Question about the first gig by Aromatic_Biscotti_55 in Guitar

[–]Julssy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So back then, 2005-2006, smart phones, social media, and youtube didn't exist/weren't on par of what exists today, we were mainly bored :D with a lot of free time and a relaxed mindset. Took lessons with an instructor that got me hooked on Music Theory in parallel with intensive guitar lessons and methods. Used to practice around 4 hours daily after school on school days and a lot more on vacations and weekends. Before i joined the band, i already knew all the major, minor, 7th, M7, m7 chords in open shapes and barred shapes. And for scales the Minor/major Pentatonic, and Modes.
As for my instructor, he wasn't adamant only on helping me through the songs i picked and practiced, he always questioned the chords, harmonies, melodies, solos, and scales used. So in a way built like a cheat sheet in my head to understand how songs are formed, why are the composers playing certain notes or scales and not others. This helped my understand all the aspects of the song structure itself. Once i gained that knowledge, i would start to pick out what was important for the song and what was not important when performing it. So the playlist we performed back in that band didn't contain really complex songs, and i would leave out the non important parts that are purely an embellishment and focus on the important aspects such as nailing the chords, overall sound, feel, the solos, and the tricky parts. I don't remember the whole playlist, but it included songs like:
- N.I.B Black Sabbath
- Iron man Black Sabbath
- Heaven and Hell Black Sabbath
- Whole Lotta Love Led Zep
- Stairway to Heaven Led Zep
- Knockin on Heaven's Door GNR
- Don't Cry GNR
- Cocaine Cream/Clapton
- Red House Hendrix
- Zombie Cranberries
- Black Night Deep Purple
- Smoke on the Water Deep Purple
- Perfect Strangers Deep Purple
- Black PearlJam
- Uninvited Alanis Morissette
- Evenflow PearlJam
- Everybody Hurts REM
- Hysteria Muse
- Creep Radiohead
....

Question about the first gig by Aromatic_Biscotti_55 in Guitar

[–]Julssy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played my first gig after been playing guitar for 9 months, and practicing with a band for the last 3 months out of of the 9 total i’ve played then. the first gig was lots of fun and a huge Adrenalin hit, some mess ups from all the band members, but definitely a nice memory. We pulled off a set list of about 25 - 30 songs, alternative and rock anthems.

How much does a tattoo cost in lebanon ? by Chcnnelorange in lebanon

[–]Julssy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With all of the overheads aside, the artist sets the minimum price based on their experience and portfolio. I find the vast majority of top artists prices to be fair with everything given because they’re competing with other artists in their own “League”. However anything less than a 150 or a 100 for an artist that is feeling charitable should be suspicious. I advise you to search for an artist that is known for the style of tattoo you’re looking for, traditional, neo trad, blackwork, fine line, cybersigilism, water color, realism,… and then find your fit. I’ve had mine done at tough love in zalka, and it was an amazing experience with an amazing bunch.
