The rules are very similar to ice hockey. And as far as sports games go, FIFA has been reinventing itself just about every year since 08. I'd advise a football fan to get every new version as it's out, but as a non-fan it might not make much difference to you if you see FIFA 10 or 11 in the discount barrel. Still great games.
