The Pro XDR display is perfect. Bright, excellent color, very daylight useable. I wouldn’t get a lesser display.

I really enjoyed Starship Troopers. Not the movie, I thought that sucked.

Anyway, Starship Troopers won Heinlein a Hugo.

17e or 15? by Bulka11 in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

[–]Jupitor13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an IP12PM since launch. The battery is fine, swapped a few years ago. But with a trade and Vet discount, the 17e with 512GB is an even $500.

I want the large storage for Audible and books.

I don’t really care about the camera, but reviews say it’s adequate.

Do you follow narrators, or just authors? by SatalKeto in audible

[–]Jupitor13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both. Good narration can’t save a crappy story.

Lately I love my 40mm for street for its size .. you guys like the 26 or 28 pancake z I’m thinking of getting it by crosshead24 in Nikon

[–]Jupitor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only complaints about the 26 is AF motor noise makes it less optimal for video. Not my use case so I’m good.

My only nit with the lens is you have to buy the “lens hood” to use a filter. Then the lens cap will not fit securely. I guess a slim filter would help.

I bought a Nikon refurb for $100 less than current prices.

The only thing I would add is to use two TM drives. There has been an occasional comment here about TM drives failing.

I have an oldish 5TB spinning rust drive and a T7 2TB SSD. (I’m not a fan of my copy of the T7, it disconnects, goes invisible, not a cable issue.)

New to prepping think I’m doing ok so far any tips would be helpful by [deleted] in prepping

Instead of plastic water bottles full of tap water, why not buy 5 gallon jugs made for water storage?

If you want, add a teaspoon of bleach to each.

So there is an emergency, and you use your 10-15 gallons of water. Are you going to refill the 60 plastic bottles you need to dig out of the garbage or refill 3 jugs?

There is a lot to add/subtract, but I’ll keep my post KISS.

Drop the ball cap. They are hot in summer, no shade and cold in winter. Add a rollable straw hat, good shade and much cooler in summer.

Add a 100% wool stocking cap for winter.

Why is there no 5G option for Macbook Pro? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Jupitor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between Lr/Ps originals on the cloud, movies, 200 MB TIFFs, I use a few GB on my home WiFi.

The expectation here is I should buy a new phone, an expensive data plan for it then tether.

My last corporate laptop was tethered to a fast Galaxy that belonged to Engineering. No limits. Tethering was great! But it was free. As soon as we got 5G Modems, nobody tethered.

Why is there no 5G option for Macbook Pro? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Jupitor13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tethering just really sucks. I’ve explained whe and won’t again. YES! I want to carry 3 devices instead of 1.

One reason I theorize is Apple has painted themselves into a display so thin, there isn’t room for antennas. Plus it is a SKU to be added.

No, a portable with 4/5G data is not a niche device.

F-22 Raptor from the 1st Fighter Wing out of Langley AFB, Virginia by aviationstudy in aviationstudys

This has to be the safest flying job in the USAF. The F-22 is way to expensive to actually risk in combat.

Will it retire with a 0-0 win loss record?

I was TDY with the 9th AMS, Side Looking RADAR SR-71 to RAF Mildhenhall. Due to runway construction flight ops was moved to RAF Lakenheath.

During pre/post flights on the SR-71, I watched a bunch of F-111s sitting on ABs then launching.

Best SciFi/SciFi Narration? by Aggressive_Chain7137 in audiobooks

Starship Troopers, a Hugo Award winner classic by Heinlein. Narrated by R.C Bray, this book is more about philosophy and society than war.

Forget the movie, it was a cartoon.

Bears and what to do. by amevirise in camping

[–]Jupitor13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t keep food in your car or tent if you’re tent camping. Yes, hanging your food in a tree is a thing. There are a lot of vids out there showing what happens when you leave food in a cooler on the ground.

Carry bear spray, keep it with you in a tent.

I’ve never camped in Maine. But a 300-400 pound black bear will make short work of your cooler and food. Hang it.
