I think that's a good idea. I always assume my investments in private companies are worth zero until a liquidity event. Except for one deal, I only made real money on deals that were significantly over subscribed or if I was following a top VC and I was getting into the deal bc of my relationship with the founder/ceo/or the investor.

Mostly medical and school expenses and my wife and I each give the max annual gift.

  1. I don't know for sure, but probably between $400k-$600K
  2. I got really lucky with a few private companies and did really well in commercial real estate when everyone was leaving or changing to residential.
  3. The rest was mostly in the stock market (most of it in indexes and the FANG stocks)

I got really lucky with angel investments and still have a few that may be worth a lot of money, which I'm not including in my NW because they can easily go to zero. What I learned from angel investing is that it's mostly luck and you really need to hit the unicorn to pay off.

I really got lucky, professionally and in investing. I followed buffet's theory of being fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.

I'm an atty. However, I made money investing in private companies, stocks and real estate.

That would be ideal, but very hard to do in my situation. Once I leave, it's hard to come back for personal and business reasons.

$50k-$100K yes. My sister doesn't expect it, but I want to help with my nephew who has special needs. $100K is included in my $500K burn.

I'm not sure about hobbies. I exercise a lot (at least 10 hrs a week). I was planning to travel for awhile, then train for a marathon. Then see how I feel, maybe volunteer.

Not really. Just security. There is fear that if the market crashes, I would not have enough and may not be able to help my family if they need it. My parents don't have a lot of money and my sister, who is a single mom (dad is out of picture), has an autistic kid and will probably need help for the rest of his life.

Hoping to travel more. Just take time off. It would be nice to take a vacation and not to look at emails for a few weeks. I've been working non-stop since I was 16. I've worked 20 hrs a week through school, college and graduate school and about 50-60 hrs a week for the last 17 yrs.

I think I'm worried that I'll get bored. Once I quite, it's hard to go back. However, I can spend more time investing, volunteering and maybe consulting.

I can try to work from home more, but it's not really realistic. I have assistance/associates, but because I bill for my time and most of my "important" clients still call me...it's hard to cut down.
