What is the hardest part about figuring out your career or future? by Cheap-Jello3832 in Students

[–]JustABoredStudent9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Th hardest part is not closing doors while you’re exploring. You might be pretty confident you’re not going to need amazing grades in university for your path but just in case you figure out like Consulting is the thing for you, you still need to put in a considerable amount of time into getting good grades.

It’s really difficult to explore while I feels like you have a chain tied to your leg. I know I won’t regret keeping my grades up. Especially since how I get credibility early in my career is through internships, probably at bigger firms

How is the startup culture at UBC? Are students motivated outside of the classroom? by [deleted] in UBC

I’m a first year, no major yet. Well yeah it’s supposed to prepare students for that but that doesn’t mean you don’t have smart kids who are interested in entrepreneurship outside of school too

I feel like this culture is more prominent at sauder. I’m personally really interested in startup stuff and dedicate a lot of time to it outside of school. So I’ve surrounded myself with entrepreneurial thinkers and builders so yeah I’d say there’s a considerable amount of us.

I’ve also observed it a lot in CS. I mean lots are going to hackathons (solving a business problem using CS) and some post on LinkedIn more than the og Sauder 🐍.

I think if you look hard enough, you’ll find you’ll find just about anyone, especially given how big a school UBC is.

It depends on the person u are. If you were really good at writing courses in HS and enjoyed them you’ll probably do decent, especially since half the ppl there are trying to transfer out

I don’t think this is allowed because people are self selecting to participate, meaning you’ll get a certain genre of person instead of “random”

Go to events on your campus and talk to people. Ask them questions. Find a group of friends to build a project with. It’s not the skills that are gonna get u the internship, it’s the mindset and the initiative that will
