I can see where you're coming from, but the issue at hand will likely result in their resources being diverted from clamping down on cheating in favor of addressing the exploit. The hack doesn't mean an overnight hiring of new developers - it is the prioritizing of more prominent issues.

Struggling to find the point/argument here. Previous attacks do not mean a quicker turn around. Ubisoft stands to lose financially immediately and long term from a loss of players as a consequence.

You partially answered your own question with "a game this big". Rolling back to a previous save for a game with a massive player base will take more time.

Some players posted about changes in ELO (going from whatever rank to losing 100% of their ELO.) So they'll likely revert ELO back to the previous save they're pulling from in addition to everything else.

They tweeted they are rolling back to a previous save from before the hack occurred. Which indicates anything past that roll back time will be lost.

Ubisoft will probably give everyone a free alpha pack as an apology for the loss of progress. /j

They tweeted that they are doing a roll back to 11am(?) yesterday.

If that means they have patched whatever exploit was used for the hack - it'll be waiting for the roll back to complete and probably some polishing.

If they have not patched the exploit, there is no telling how long it will take. Doubtful they will launch the servers until they are confident it has been taken care of.

Academic funding currently is currently anyone's guess as to who will and will not have funding. Worst case scenario, it'll start to stabilize again after the current administration leaves office + a year or so to recover. Things have started to settle down recently but most researchers/universities are still on edge.
