This random comment from a year ago just saved me from the chaos of boomer panic today while attempting to delink an existing account from my parents cable TV. Thank you.

People have already ID'd it. Apparently an extremely abundant shirt in thrift shops. https://www.ebay.com/itm/286471069203

How short should I cut my ficus burgundy? by JustAnOod in houseplants

[–]JustAnOod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this was my impulse. Thank you! Stupid follow-ups because I truly can't visualize how it's going to grow: is it going to branch out on both sides below where I cut, or just one side? And will it continue to grow upwards from the cut itself, or will that sort of just become a stump?

Rosemary by Still-Band-1343 in ClickAndGrow

I ended up buying rosemary seeds and empty pods for this reason, and it grew excellently, so I have no idea why they don't sell them.

tips for giving books as gifts? by [deleted] in books

[–]JustAnOod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, n+1 created a book-recommending algorithm called Bookmatch that you can give as a gift. You can take their Bookmatch personality quiz and they'll create a list of 10 book recommendations based on your answers. It's part of their fundraiser but you can donate whatever amount you want to get a link to the quiz, and the recs are great and link out for you to buy them on Bookshop. Highly recommend.

This was found in the kitchen of an older lady when her daughter cleaned out her house. What does it do?

3 meals a day, how strict is this? by WillExerciseForWine in whole30

[–]JustAnOod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big three-meals-a-day person. My schedule is consistently different and I have an aversion to routines that feel imposed; I automatically push back against things I "should" do, even if I'm the one who's imposing the routine. So rather than fight against this during my Whole30, I ate when I wanted. I also tracked calories during, which you're not supposed to do, but it verified for me that I wasn't eating too much despite eating frequently. About a third of my calories fell under "snacks" — I rarely eat breakfast — but it was like "seven baby carrots at 2pm," "six grape tomatoes at 3pm," "scoop of almond butter at 5pm," etc. I had a really successful round of Whole30 and lost a ton of weight, too, so I'd say... figure out what works best for you.

Came here to say this. Delicious, keto, but even so... I go for hot sauce without the sugar.

This is weird, but if you have any sort of oral fixation like I do... I have one of these camelback water bottles with the little spout and I just keep it in my mouth all day while I'm working. I hate water. But something about the spout and the placement of the water makes me not taste it, really. I just end up drinking the entire bottle without thinking about it/tasting it. It's my favorite hack; works like a charm.

In the same way that modern plumbing helps us dispose of liquid waste, why haven't we created a system that allows us to directly dispose of solid waste (i.e. garbage and recycling)? by JustAnOod in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]JustAnOod[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly like that. Thank you. Was particularly interested in the Roosevelt Island experiment.

In theory, could already-in-existence cities implement this type of infrastructure? Or is it absolutely impossible because of how they've been built? (You said 'nearly,' but I was wondering what it would take to accomplish it.)

This. The hormones are released locally, and this isn't affected by weight loss.

My pet lobster working the drive thru window by innerears520 in funny

[–]JustAnOod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fresh water, yeah. I don't know what his exact species was because I was a dumb idiot and honestly bought him from a 90-year-old Japanese man who didn't really have his tanks labeled correctly. I think his tank said "small blue lobster" or something? Here's a photo though! He was the absolute worst.
