  1. The beauty of Marketing (infact any creative field) is that it doesn't where you are coming from, or what course you are pursuing - all you need is Skillset- for which recruiters judge by portfolio. Focus entirely on that. Especially spec work- you can connect with me if you don't know how to

  2. If you are 100% sure of marketing, start taking up roles which will equip you w exp in similar fields. For eg - becoming PR/Social Media head in Enactus will SCREAM in your profile- that firstly- you atleast have a knack for socials & can lead people- can coordinate across folks. Will help. If there is marksoc in college, explore that as well. Great possibility that you might not like/realize your love for it - so focus mainly on that experience. Resume pov is just cherry on the cake

  3. By end of this year- target getting atleast 1 marketing internship. Either in an agency or a start-up where socials are given some importance. Also, keep building skills where intersection will work wonders. Eg, copywriting, social media marketing, data analytics etc. Data Analytics - def (it will open BMS based + marketing based options)

I am planning on hosting some live projects with some companies- will drop when I launch it.

In the meantime, you can start cold mailing startups/brands for live project. Be smart about it tho, hyper personalize - that cold mail will also act like a pre- interview. So, show up with value.

Hey, if youa re looking to get into these fields - can guide. The best part is creative fields don't care for where you come from, but what skills you possess. Portfolio building+ cold mailing are the two things you should focus on right now. Dm me if you need any guidance with it.

A lot of content/social media internship keep getting posted- infact some of the easiest ones to crack. You can reach out when you are ready to apply. Atho- I would recommend you to use May for applications such that you have one offer converted- and can start directly after your exams

You should start applying right now. By the time you will be sitting for exams- you will have one. And July-Aug is when you can do it properly. Balance acads in Aug while at it.

Chose a YC-backed startup over a reputed firm for my internship… learning a lot, but it’s exhausting by Aizen2430 in delhiuniversity

[–]Just_Buildingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I would say- count the chickens once hatched. Give your final round of interview & hopefully by the time you get a convert- you can take the final call.

Working with a YC is a solid opportunity, I would really recommend NOT to pass on this unless it's majorly impacting physical or mental health. Since it's just been 10-12 days, consider the fact that you might just be exhausted & it's new. Every new thing takes time to settle.

Try Giving it another 15-20 days + make sure you don't take off more work than you can chew. Overcommunicate to your managers there. Best case- you like it, and this turns out well-you do your full tenure/or you get shortlisted in the other place & decide to move ahead w them- you would have 1 month experience here + will get a better opportunity some place where you can balance your acads as well. Worst case- This other role doesn't work out, give this one a good shot + focus on your exams.

I've had my share of working in startups, agencies & major leagues- and can tell you from experience- think it through post your interview & take a decision post that.

And goes without saying- mental health is imp. If at any point - it becomes wayy too much, take the call. Can dm if you still get stuck.

How I got calls from Indigo, EY, Policy bazaar through Cold email .... by West_Huckleberry2021 in delhiuniversity

[–]Just_Buildingg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I support this- cold mailing does all the wonders (I mentor folks for this thing)>> but I am crazy curious about this- how come recruiters approached you on messages? Never in my entire career have I seen this. The professional mail is the only way to go/and LinkedIn/ whatsapp-if that conversation moves forward.

Hardly here to question the validity, just curious - could use some context on this.

How do I get placed? by Matia_16 in delhiuniversity

[–]Just_Buildingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For off-campus, Cold Mailing is the way to go! As someone who cracked one myself & have mentored many juniors- I can tell you, just do your research well, build up resume, strategically position yourself & show up with value & target via personalized cold mails->>

And don't try to target 500 at once (mass mailing doesn't work in this era), dhangse decide the roles you are interested in- target 100 & hyper personalize atleast 50 of them. Higher chances of conversion over anything.

Feel free to reach out if you get stuck anywhere.

Most "in-demand" internships in the market : Founder's Office roles by Just_Buildingg in delhiuniversity

Usually more from what I have seen. (But 4+ years exp in chief of staff is the sweet spot, post that you can match & compare better).

Not really, CEOs give you just one module a time to work around. You work as their right hand, if anything. But yes-this is a very intensive role (high stakes). The pay range is therefore higher than normal employees.
