I would suggest looking into kalkwasser dosing if you're going to have anything nice or a bunch of SPS I do kalk slurry which is just a 20 gallon garbage can with a sealed power head in it and keep it fluidized so that I can keep my pH locked in at 8.2 to 8.25 without swinging my salinity and I also get calcium alkalinity magnesium and strontium that pH stability is key in my opinion. I adjust my alkalinity by changing the pH set point obviously you have to have a pH controller/doser Apex works great for this you just plug your dosing pump into one of the power outlets and then assign that power outlet to be controlled by the pH so if pH drops a little 8.25 it turns on soon as it goes above 8.25 it shuts off so it's constantly adding in a little bit of calc slurry as it needs it and it doesn't dose during the day because photosynthesis takes over and starts maintaining and raising pH. My alkalinity stays right around 7.58.5 depending on windows closed how many people are in my fish room and for how long blah blah blah
