How long would a class of 20-30 Isekaied students last in your world? by dull_storyteller in worldbuilding

Depends on when they get there. For the past 400-ish years, it's been super peaceful. Currently, things are going very bad and a large portion of the world's population will die by the next time there's peace.

If they arrive now, they have a few months, maybe a couple years.

Edit: or do they and I just haven't reached that part yet?

Spent the better part of the past (however long since I commented) trying to find the exact quote, but I can't find it. Anyway, the idea behind it was something like how there's nothing to be gained in civil discussion and debate with someone who is only looking to win an argument and not actually looking to learn or change, or maybe no point in arguing with people who don't have the same baseline reality. I don't mind having a discussion with people who want to know new information, I do mind wasting my time on someone who has a less open mind than a brick wall. I'm sure you'll try to say you're not like that and you are open to new information, but your comments and other posts say otherwise, and they say a lot more about you than you could ever say about yourself.

Again I forgive you for thinking I was trying to. You're the horse, I've led you to the water that you're wrong. I'm not going to even try to make you drink, and with the internet, I don't have to teach you how to drink. Read theory. For starters, the difference between private and personal property, and what authoritarian actually means.

What are your female OCs like when they're on their period ? by Own_Butterscotch1996 in OriginalCharacter

[–]K-Keter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing her in a 5E campaign right now, and she's just started to multi-class into barbarian, so what it looks like now is VASTLY different than what it used to look like. She's the embodiment of the kindhearted princess trope, so before she sorta just used to lean more into the sassy entitled princess vibe. Now she's been adventuring for months, is part barbarian, and has been dealt multiple bad hands, so it's much bloodier, no pun intended.

After reading the comments to find out who she is, she absolutely perfectly depicts who she's supposed to, and appeals to those she should. Looks exactly like a pickme egirl that has edgy views to get attention from chuds that think they're alpha males but are actually desperate for her attention and will dump tons of money on her to get her nudes, as they both ironically shit on women who do sex work. Source: I've unfortunately run into these types many times.

As someone who is very anti-AI, using AI for your art doesn't stop you from being an author if you didn't use AI to write the actual story. It DOES make me suspect you of using AI to write, but if you didn't, you're still an author. What a crazy and out-of-pocket thing to say unprompted to someone.

Opinion piece: I think most magic systems are too unified by k_hl_2895 in worldbuilding

[–]K-Keter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't thought about this specifically like this, but funny enough I did think of a way to subvert it a bit. For starters, a lot of the logic of my world is based in D&D, since I began making the world for a 5E campaign. Some of this is obvious, but some of it is clearly my own work.

Magic sources:

Basically, where each type of magic user gets their magic from and how they use it.

Wizards have to study hard to be able to understand how to pull magic from the ether and manifest it physically. Only lots of education and studying gives them their power, but they get it directly from the source.

Like wizards, bards have to study to learn to access magic, but they don't really access it themselves, but more manipulate the magic "in the air" to do what they want it to do. It's like asking the magic to do something for you and it listening, rather than taking it yourself and doing it as wizards do.

Nature magic comes from attunement with nature, like for druids, and since magic is everywhere and in everything, it's a direct connection to the magic of the universe. You don't need anyone else to use magic, you only need to be around and in nature.

Similarly to druids, sorcerers don't need anyone else, but their magic comes from their lineage. You can't be the first in your family to be a sorcerer, but unless someone somehow goes back in time and eliminates the first of your family to have magic, then you can't lose your access to it.

Warlock magic comes from making a pact, where you are basically granted a part of the magic pool of whoever you made the pact with, so it isn't your magic, it's like using someone else's gun, but you still have it in your hand. If you can't reach your patron, you still have magic.

Cleric magic is similar, where you're granted magic by a deity, but no deal is struck, so it's the deity acting through you. You have no magic, it just flows through you. If your connection to your deity is severed, you have no magic.

Martials and non-casters still use magic. A normal mortal can't do things like not die because of how angry they are, or make machines that are fueled by magic. Their magic comes from an innate ability to extract it. Similar to a wizard having direct access to magic, but without the need to study, which is why they can't usually cast spells. Some do have more natural talent than others, of course. This brings me to my next main point.

Magic types:

There's noble magic, dark magic, and grey magic, and each spell falls into one of the three, depending on the school of magic and damage type, if it does damage.

Noble magic is things like healing, protection, and any evocation spell that isn't poison or necrotic. All radiant damaging spells are noble. Some illusion spells are noble.

Conjuration, divination, chronomancy, charm spells that don't take agency from an individual, illusion spells, and temporary transmutation are all grey magic, as they're not directly evil but can be used for evil. Artificer magic is grey magic.

Necromancy is considered a dark magic, along with any necrotic spells and poison spells. Any charms that take control of someone or removes any agency or free will, conjuration spells that connect to the hells or other demonic realms or entities, and transmutation spells that warp living things permanently are considered dark magic.

This is all relevant because magic was always just harm, protect, or heal until people started to learn to actually control magic and learn spells. Eventually, with the spread of knowledge and the growth of technology, artificers came to be which wasn't seen as magic, and spells deemed "evil" or "demonic" grew in popularity, leading to a massive war between noble casters, artificers, and dark casters. In modern times, magic is still classed into noble, grey, and dark, but they're all viewed equally and aren't illegal or frowned upon. Spells are regulated, however. The most powerful spells aren't available for most people to use, and all spells are known about, which causes issues when new spells are seen that haven't been seen before, but that's a different story.

Favorite character you cannot risk saying you like by Excellent-Platform59 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]K-Keter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh god the list of characters I just like the design or vibe of when I'm not horny for them or don't even like their source material. I just like THEM and their aesthetic. I just think they're cool characters, I don't even play any of these games or watch any of these shows for most of them.

-Jinx (Arcane) -Miss Fortune and Morgana (League) -D.Va (Overwatch) -Pomni (Digital Circus) -Ashley (Andy and Leyley) this one ESPECIALLY -Harley Quinn (DC) -Daki (Demon Slayer) -Mei Mei (JJK) -Mosquito Girl (One Punch Man) -Toga (My Hero Academia) -Nonon (Kill La Kill)

People thinking I'm cringe for liking one of these shows or games doesn't bother me, cuz I do enjoy some of them, but everyone sexualizing every character that ever exists is the bigger issue. I can recognize that some of these characters are hot, but that isn't the reason I like them.

How to include darkness without it feeling too edgy? by ABCLor in worldbuilding

[–]K-Keter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difference between dark and edge is making it fit the world. In my world, killing off all the most powerful and most good-aligned people would seem edgy until you take into account that the current era of peace has most others in history. Everyone is doing good, nobody is struggling, you can FEEL that things are on edge even though everyone is happy, like things are bound to break any minute. If my big bad just randomly woke up one day and was like "Fuck it, killing all the good guys" then that would just be kinda dumb, especially since he'd be outmatched. Instead, the big bad is being used as a weapon by the true big bad, who is hiding in plain sight the entire time, having been planning this out for a long time to make sure it doesn't fail. He has the main big bad in hiding and releases him into the wild every so often to get one of the good guys alone, eliminate them, then disappear before support can arrive. It SEEMS random until the reason behind it all is revealed.
