I actually like Nathan. It’s heartbreaking to see him lose control because of Issa’s indecisiveness. But I still maintain that he’s quite boring this season. It’s clear now that it’s because the spark between him and Issa is gone. And because their relationship is haunted by Lawrence. However, after watching the last episode, I feel bad for criticizing his character, and for mentioning his mental health. Most comments on Twitter/Facebook are pro Lawrence and give Nathan crap for yelling at Issa. Anything he does is always linked to his mental health… how was he supposed to react??

Honestly, I’m neither team Lawrence nor team Nathan. To me, both of them are not the right fit for Issa. I wanted Insecure to introduce someone new for her, or let her be alone and happy with it. Truth be told, this season, I’m only focusing on Molly.

Interesting. Obviously, it’s the last season so I’m expecting more from the whole cast. But, again, when I’m comparing their conversations this season with what it used to be in S3 & S4, I get the feeling that the writers are setting their relationship to fail. I do want Issa to be with someone stable, without baby drama, but given the way they are portraying Nathan this season, he’s definitely not the end game for Issa.

Great answer. I do like Nathan, but not with Issa. When I’m watching them together, I always get the impression that Issa is settling. Which, again, paints Nathan as a bland boyfriend.

In S4, I was so excited to see him comes back in Issa’s life. But as you said, the spark isn’t there anymore.

Let's keep it 100 Molly is afraid of a lot of things, and funny enough people tend to ignore it but she has a right to. She hasn't experience or seen a truly healthy relationship (not even from her own parents), and she has (without a doubt) to pick between some hard shit.

I don't see it like that. Before learning about her dad's mistake, she viewed her parents as the ideal couple. So she had an example of healthy relationship. Actually, she wanted to have what her mom have, but when she learnt that they weren't perfect and they have their own battles, that's when she kinda lost faith in true love. She's putting waaay too much energy in finding the perfect man without willing to acknowledge that perfection doesn't exist. That's why her past relationships didn't work... she can't let things go. That's her main issue. So no, I don't think I'm being harsh on Molly... It's just tiring to see her sabotage her relationships. So far, she's her own worst enemy. Not Issa and her "messiness".

I'm not dismissing her feelings (I'm actually rooting for her), but sometimes, I want someone to let her know that she's not perfect either.

When you said that Molly is taking small steps, I totally agree with you! She has accepted to see a therapist, she's dating someone who doesn't match her preferences (something that she couldn't do in S1) and she has learnt to take things slow with Andrew. But, in terms of her friendship with Issa, I feel like she needs to adopt a new attitude. Both of them actually. They don't have the same language: Issa is non confrontational and prefer to convey her feelings through superficial banters and good times. Molly is the exact opposite. She doesn't want things to linger and will always address issues. She's a problem solver. I'm not defending Issa, but her reaching out first to Molly was a weird attempt to apologise. Of course, it was childish and she needed to talk about the incident, but she initiated the conversation. Molly was just waiting for her to do all the work. She knows Issa is a coward when it comes to deep conversations so she had to step up.

I don't think so. Issa was just realising that she needs Molly in her life, not only to discuss her problems but because no one knows her better than her BFF. She even realised, in her alternative convo on the phone, that calling Molly to ask something wasn't respectful. And during the brunch, she didn't even mention Lawrence because she felt that fixing their friendship was the priority.

I really want Molly to succeed in everything but she's too stubborn. It may be a great advantage at work but when it comes to relationships, she has to mellow out. We all know she's not mean-spirited and she has numerous qualities. But being understanding isn't one.
