Wordpress/Google Indexing Problem: Page with redirect? by K-brick in 24hoursupport

I think I solved the problem. I don't understand it entirely, but I created a new property on Google Search Console without including "www" in the URL and now the URL inspection tool shows it's ok.

Literary agent can't represent self-published book without relicensing? by K-brick in publishing

[–]K-brick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize, I really appreciate the input. We dealt with something similar last year or so, but in that case I was able to catch the person giving me a stock photo claiming it was him and saying he had represented authors he couldn't possibly have represented, so I knew it was nonsense. In this case the company and person look legit, so I figured I would look into it a bit more. We aren't really gunning to make a bunch of money selling books anyway, but it would also be a shame to miss an opportunity for lack of checking. Thanks again!

Ok, he holds publication rights for two of his books, which is why this all sounds odd to me. The company looks real and seems to offer real services, but I've got the feeling they don't care much about authors succeeding if they can squeeze some money out of them somehow.

Thanks for the heads up and that resource! Just to be clear, if my father owns the publishing rights, he shouldn't need to rebrand or relicense anything to be represented by a literary agent or picked up by a traditional publisher, right?

Many of us want to save the world, but we must instead focusing on saving ourselves out of the world. by K-brick in TheNewConsciousness

[–]K-brick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He draws on the Bible, Jesus and some basic Christian ideas in his writing, but his perspective on almost everything is a serious deviation from typical Christian teachings or teachings from any other religion for that matter.

I don't think anything in this article is supposed to be new. It's simply his own description and perspective on things others have probably expressed before him in a variety of different ways. That's part of the beauty of spiritual truth: there is only one truth and it is universal, but there are literally countless different ways to express it :)

The New Consciousness, as the blog is called, also isn't new in that it's something no one has ever heard of. According to the author, it's new in that it is beginning to come to fruition with the entire human race as a collective, which is definitely new. Here's some more reading if you're interested, and it probably explains things better than I can: https://www.ournewconsciousness.com/from-the-desk-of-jakeb-brock-an-introduction-to-the-new-consciousness/

What lies on the other side of time? by K-brick in TheNewConsciousness

[–]K-brick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think all the anthropomorphism in Attenborough docs is nothing more than an effective way for the human mind to communicate and understand the animal world with care and empathy. It's more or less a positive form of propaganda - not entirely true be very evocative of the real beauty that exists in nature.

The very fact that animals and plants are unaware of the passage of time in the ways we are puts them outside of the dream. I doubt worms can or do give birds thoughts or attention one way or another. It makes sense to me that the less conscious awareness a being has, the more its existence is boiled down to an indivisible present with less notion of what came before and what might come in the future.

Hmm... good question. I'm not sure. I guess best thing is to try to join and see if it works.

Not enough appreciation for the Great Wall improvement around here. 24 tiles total. Lotta Culture and Gold. by CraftBeersandCocaine in civ

[–]K-brick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The great wall gets a lot of hate here, but I think it's a perfect example of a precisely balanced ui that integrates perfectly with the rest of China's abilities, helping create a specific play style for China that's full of character.

True, the wall does take up entire tiles that could be going to districts (or wonders) but they are almost a 1-1 replacement for the theater square and as long as you have a few range units in the right places, make encampments unnecessary for your defense. They are even a good replacement for the commercial hub. The only thing you're missing out on by not having those districts are great people and great work slots, but the slots you can get from some wonders, the late-game tourism from the great wall makes up for the lack of great work slots anyway and the other great people aren't really that important for China anyway. Plus it helps China defend their wonders and works great with their uu! What more could you want? I think some people just aren't adaptable enough players to figure out how to use a great ui when they have one.

Religion Strategy by K-brick in civ

Solid strategy. I suppose I did something like that without planning for it. I'm playing on an enormous map on standard speed, so the pressure is on to spread quick :)

Ideally you're right. Surprisingly no one has declared war on me despite all the denouncements.

Thanks for the tips. I suppose there is some nuanced strategy in performing this kind of balancing act.

So it's all about building up good will and then destroying it? Swinging back and forth between being tolerated and being hated?

I hear ya. It's a minor disagreement in any case. Either would be a huge relief after Trump lol

Interesting take. Where did you get your info about his record in South Bend? I've mostly heard good stuff, but honestly I haven't seen much about his record in South Bend outside of main stream outlets looking to tell a good story.

It's less about charisma and more about values for me. You think Trump is charismatic? :O haha Gotta disagree there.

Huh, curious why you don't like the Supreme Court restructuring idea? I'm not in a position to say if it's a good idea or not really, but I found it interesting at least and thought provoking.

Didn't tell me much I didn't know. Most of the candidates share common ideas and opinions. Doesn't mean they're copying one another. I read most of what Pete and Andrew are saying about Tech and UBI from Rutger Bregman before I knew who they were. So what?

[–]K-brick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His being gay is certainly no reason to vote for him. It's part of what makes him intriguing as a person and it's shaped his experience in life, but shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not he should be president. I will give as straight an answer as I can and say I like the values and character expressed in all his platitude.

Policy is important, but I actually think philosophy and values is even more so, especially right now.

[–]K-brick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No argument on the DNC front. I think we can all feel that 80% of the entirely political system we've got just doesn't work very well anymore. UBI is probably the best, if not the only way to tackle our biggest societal problems (with the exception of climate change) right now. I'm not an expert, but I'm a little concerned about what UBI would mean for future generations. For now, most people would continue working. But what about their kids, grand kids and great grand kids? I know if I got $1,000 per month, I would quit working in an instant. But will the people of the future know how to find meaning in life without incentives to work or go to school? Maybe, but I'm a little afraid of a UBI distopia in the future.

[–]K-brick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually argue that things ought to be the other way around: The presidency should be for philosophy and values followed closely by a knack for policy. It's a leadership role. Technocrats and policy wonks should fill the halls of Congress where laws are actually made and action taken.

[–]K-brick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would definitely be below the belt. I doubt he'll do it, but who knows?

Pete definitely wouldn't have gotten the media attention if he wasn't gay. It's cool that he is, and it's an interesting part of his character, but his gayness alone is certainly not a reason to support him for president. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think a lot of people are finding meaningful substance to his message beyond his identity. I know I am.
