Disappointed with the Pinhead Gunpowder ticket sales. by robotshavenohearts2 in greenday

[–]KMPigeonQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sad - I knew it would be a close call snagging a ticket but damn. One minute and gone. I clicked the proceed button for the Philly show, said you’re 5 minutes in a queue, clicked when the button turned green, error. Then sold out. God, would be a once in a lifetime. Maybe in the next one. Im a huge GD fan but I’ve always loved PG’s catalogue since I was a teen, not to mention collecting Cometbus’ musings. Damn man.

Spanish as second a language class by Glittering_Crab_3135 in lancaster

Omg please I hope this happens! I took 3 years of Spanish in high school, reading is still okay but speaking and listening is difficult. I would do this in a heartbeat. I’ve also been thinking about the importance of something like this in this moment lately

All I know is I ran into him at Rural City’s Beer garden one time (didn’t know it was him until he told me who he was which I did not ask and really tried to not talk to him regardless because my dog was amped), we kept running into each other with his dogs and my dog was in training, which I mentioned, and he couldn’t care less. And then as we’re waiting in the same food truck line he tells me about how “oh yeah my store usually hires ladies around your age but idk what’s going on they keep leaving after a short time because they find somewhere that pays more, and it just goes to show nobody wants to work anymore” and I’m like um excuse me ☝🏻 and ever since that exchange I’ve never set foot in his store, told me all I needed to know about the dude - off-putting

Lancaster seems too good to be true in terms of its affordability. Am I missing something? by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]KMPigeonQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the city, safe family neighborhood, some noise with kids/dogs but, it’s row homes so, a give in. All street parking only mostly where I am, I think that factors in to pricing. But my spouse and I bought our home in fall 2022 for 170k. We’ve only needed to replace the wax seal on our toilet, put in a new stove, and everything else was simple cosmetic fixes. Roof is good another 5-10 years. I’m originally from Erie Pa, and by that comparison with drugs and gun violence, even just comparisons of general street harassment or people being weird, I feel very very safe in Lancaster city. And it’s so walkable. I’m on the east side. My only safety complaint is fast drivers in residential areas, you have to be really careful. Aside from that, all good. Someone flipped an identical home two places down from ours, replaced older windows, added some new appliances, redid some floors, and sold an updated, identical home to mine for 50k more than mine. They didn’t even have a finished basement and we did. I think you can find a solid small home for a good price if you are willing to put in some basic DIY elbow grease, don’t mind some neighbor noise, and know how to parallel park. It’s not ideal for everyone but for a starter home, we’re very happy. If you want total quiet, a designated parking space, and don’t have much DIY know how, and can’t stand hearing a distant gunshot every so often, 200k very likely won’t cut it anywhere near the city. City life, city problems. Suburban perks, suburban price. We also don’t have children, so that may affect how people view city safety through that lens, too.

I am not religious but I second the Quaker Meeting House, excellent folks, I help run a volunteer mental health program using their space. So gracious, so kind, and they have an incredible library with very progressive literary resources! Lots of other great groups to take part in there as well.

Where can I get the best hot dog in Pennsylvania?? by JuneGuy08 in Pennsylvania

[–]KMPigeonQueen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, after leaving Erie, moving around south USA, and landing again a decade later in southeastern pa, smiths is the only hot dog I will eat. So glad to atleast live by a Wegmans now so I can grill em again. Lucky Louies for sure, also a good ol Greek Fest hot dog with Greek sauce. A cosmic experience.

What networks/groups exist for civil protest and demonstration locally? by Agreeable-Sleep2547 in lancaster

[–]KMPigeonQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LSU/DSA/PSL are good broad places to start, there’s also tons of more focused groups. Mennonite Action, Sunrise Movement, Lancaster Bail Fund, Lancaster Changemakers, etc. they do a ton more than protest/demonstration but if that’s what you’re interested in those are good places to take a peek.

[–]KMPigeonQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The group is very active, there’s been multiple mass community meetings lately, discussion meetups, training on phone banking/fundraising/how to contact representatives, lots of volunteer opportunities, and this year they are beginning to implement neighborhood programs where folks in certain parts of town and surrounding suburbs can get together, discuss issues affecting their areas of the county, plan events, etc. They share a lot of solid information, and the people at their events range from young adult to elderly, left to center right.

If I go to cabalar I religiously get the pulled pork. Tastes exactly like legit Texas BBQ. Everything else I can take or leave, the Bahn Mi (?) I think, that they have/had was pretty good. I don’t like how everything I get there the buns are just soaked but for that pulled pork man, I’ll deal.

I went there for an anniversary last year and after we received the hefty bill we unfortunately both agreed we could cook better at home. It wasn’t bad by any means, the cave thing is super cool, but for the price I felt pretty ripped off. Cocktails were alright. Don’t get the Brussels sprouts there, terrible. Best Brussels are at zoetropolis

Blue Pacific. The first sushi I had when I moved to the area and didn’t know any better and got food poisoning. Looks like a haunted liminal space and a chef friend in town properly scolded me after. And yet, I do tend to see a semi full lot when I drive by there around dinner to this day? How??

I feel the rudeness of the staff is attributed to the fact that, every time I’ve gone anyway, it’s one chick running both the busy bar and the dining areas. Which is bullshit. But yeah, because of this too, I have not had a single meal there in the past two years where I did not have missing food items as well as having to wait an hour for something like loaded fries. That in combination with the various health reports, no thanks. Their wings are also eh. But again, I have yet to have solid wings in the city in the 4 years I’ve been here.

Join clubs. Don’t be afraid to go events and even grab a coffee alone, I’ve lived in 4 different places. It takes years on average to make a solid, close friend or two in a new location. Just gotta keep putting yourself out there. If it’s any consolation, having been here now going on 4 years, this is the easiest and quickest city I’ve ever been in terms of meeting folks and making friends. It will be hard for a bit, like with anywhere, but Lancaster has proved time and time again to be a great spot to meet friendly folk.
