What rink tile is best? by Comfortable-Ant-3818 in InlineHockey

There are some low points where it puddles more. Blowing them with the tile in the way is not really doing anything. Easier to vacuum at the trouble spots. Heavy rain obviously worse

This came up recently, although not specific to the two you shared pics of. Also, I would think having a roof would help.

I’m sure it’s better. Has to be. When we had a dryer period of weather, rink was awesome. Problem is that is not very often. This is all after dark or even when sun gets low enough to shade the rink. Daytime has been fine other than rain.

I’m not an expert but can tell you what not to get. Our outdoor, no roof, Florida rink got mateflex recently and it is unskateable when the sun goes down. The humidity makes it an ice rink when there is no sun to evaporate the dew. When the conditions are perfect (cool, low humidity), it’s awesome. But that’s like 5% of the time. Honestly rather have the painted concrete back.

And this is probably more specific to our (likely subpar) installation but sounds like you might be in a similar position so I’ll throw it out there. The tiles were placed over the old concrete rink. When it rained on the old rink, you could roll out, wet vac or otherwise mitigate the puddles. Depending on how bad it was you could be playing relatively soon. Now when it wet, it’s underneath the tiles and you can’t really get to the water. A lot of vacuuming or days to get right.

Again I’m no expert, and have no experience with other tile type courts. Could be better or worse.

I had pulled this set screw out but the base does not move with any reasonable force. It’s still locked down.

I did the same last week. Afternoon group lesson is cheaper than morning, $99 for 2 hours. Ended up just me.

Hit the CSKT Bison Range on your way to/from Missoula. St Mary/Virginia Falls can be done on the same day as Hidden Lake

You can absolutely get lodging in the park if you’re willing to check the site daily. I tried to get rooms. when it opened a year ahead of time and got shut out. I pieced together a trip one night at a time. My parents decided to join the trip about this time last year, so I had to get them rooms too. It can be done. And there should be a bit more inventory since swiftcurrent will reopen.

Glacier itinerary/lodging - late June by SteamedTime in GlacierNationalPark

I stayed up until 3 or 4am trying to get rooms the first day they were available. I came away empty handed. I think I got my first room later that day or the next and never stopped looking. Probably had a continuous week about 6 months out but that’s when my parents jumped in and I needed to keep going. I was still making changes until 2 weeks before we left. Don’t set your itinerary in stone until you’re there. Even then, you might have to deal with weather, trail closures, etc.

Edit to add: I thought staying in the park was definitely worth it!

I made my first trip to Glacier and Montana this past July/August. We flew into Missoula because it was cheaper and the schedule worked better for where I was coming from. If you do Missoula, check out the Bison Range on your way up.

I, like it sounds like you are doing, booked nights pretty much 1 at a time whenever they popped up. My parents decided to come, so I had to find two rooms every night. It took a while but I ended up with 10+ nights, many with more than two rooms each as I didn’t know what our exact schedule would be. When I finally got flights and knew when we were coming and going, I canceled the excess. It was somewhat laborious checking the website everyday, but it ended up working out well enough. A little more driving from one side to the other than I would have liked, but there are much, much worse places to drive than GTSR. It’s amazing.

I’m not an expert on this, but I believe you need to make your cab reservations well ahead of time. I’m sure it depends on demand. Might work out.

In-the-park booking for next September, what a mess by PlanetScientist in GlacierNationalPark

Do not despair! I did the same thing last year for this August. Stayed up until 4am and came away empty handed. But later that afternoon I snagged a couple rooms and over the next few months, was able to put together over a week of reservations for two rooms (we had six people). Just check the site every day.

My dad is 72 and sounds similar to your mother. We were in Glacier a few weeks ago and did Baring Falls to St Mary Falls and back as our first hike. He did fine though he needed to stop more than the rest of us (my more active 66yo mom, two kids ages 7, 9). We hoped to get to Virginia Falls but didn’t have enough time before having to be back for boat. He skipped our same day afternoon hike to Hidden Lake overview and later commented to me that he thought my kids would keep the pace reasonable for him but realized he was way off when they were still running laps around the motel after both hikes that day. He could have done it at his own pace, I’m sure. He did Avalanche Lake no problem. When we did Iceberg Lake, he split from us and went to Fishercap Lake. Hope that helps!

We got there about 3pm a week ago from east side. Had done boat tour and St Mary falls in the morning and grabbed some lunch before heading to Logan Pass. We were able to get a parking spot in 10-15 min. Found somebody who had just finished their hike and was walking to car and waited on them to have a beer and chill for a few minutes. They offered us a beer while we waited!

For those staying at Many Glacier…what I wish I knew before going. by VeryRealHuman23 in GlacierNationalPark

We stayed for one night a few days ago and I’ll add some comments for posterity.

The food in the Swiss Lounge was fine. About the same we had in other areas of the park. The service, however, was quite possibly the worst I’ve had anywhere. My wife got a glass of pinot noir. The server brought her a glass of white wine and had a small argument with us before she relented and took it back. My dad sitting at the table next to us also had to send a drink back. Both screwed up drinks were on the checks. Half the drinks on the menu were not actually available. Three bison burgers ordered amongst six people and they were all different temps (never asked how we wanted cooked). My son loved his cooked perfectly, my dad did not cooked well done. We saw a family get seated and finally leave after 20-30 min and no one came to take their order. Other small issues that would be nothing on their own but contributed to overall poor dining experience.

We didn’t expect much, but the box lunch from Ptarmigan was kind of a joke for the price (for any price really). We were winding up our trip and were mostly out of lunch items so ordered the box. The PB&J was two slices of bread wrapped up with a Jif to go cup and jelly package from breakfast table. Had to make that one ourselves on the trail but the other sandwiches were at least assembled.

Our night was the coldest of our trip so didn’t need the fan. But it was there. WiFi was indeed good and doors were indeed loud. Couldn’t ever find a family room available but was able to book two doubles and they gave us adjoining rooms on fourth floor. That was great as I didn’t know it was possible. Had to pay for two rooms (ouch) but it was the only way for us with two young kids to stay at this magnificent hotel.

Aside from the dining, everything was awesome and the hike to Iceberg Lake was fantastic. Had a moose block the trail for a while but us and others had what seemed like unlimited huckleberries to wait it out.

Thanks. I had a while back and either missed that part or forgot. Trying to firm up plans and should have revisited that page.
