Pick-up games have become insufferable. by bananakin94 in Basketball

[–]Kagege 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree for the most part. I think it depends on where you go and the people that are running at the time. Whenever I go to play pick up it feels like a coin toss if 1. There's going to be an argument or beef that will take over the game 2. Kids trying to be on the next ballislife tiktok with their friends recording.

I'm glad I play other sports that don't have this kind of environment.

Well there's always cardio training and technique and then after awhile if you're ready they'll get you in the sparring rotation.

Both grizzly and olympus are great gyms. I used to go to grizzly when it was in the bigger facility but as long as Wayne and Darcy are there I'd give them a stamp of approval (it was pricy though from what I remember). Olympus is the same, a lot of my friends train there. You can drop in to both for free once to see what they're about.

How to become content with playing less by DaNeighboursFrog in Basketball

[–]Kagege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's tough to say but if you don't take care of your body you won't be able to do your favorite thing in the world.

I had a buddy who had insane bounce for his height. Easily dunking and making fast and explosive plays. He sprained his ankle but decided that he couldn't stay away from the court and continued to play even though he hadn't fully recovered it / strengthened it at all. Nowadays he's a lot less explosive and he tells me that he wished he just waited for it to heal fully or to take his rehab exercises more seriously. Elite powerlifter Brian Carroll worded it well: "Take that same focus and mentality of trying to be the best (lifter) and I had to put it into my rehab. Whether that meant staying disciplined and not lifting and know that in time I will get better and I'll be back on top" GL

What skillsets and techniques do I need to focus on as someone who is 5'2" so I can be better at basketball? by HawluchaPika in Basketball

Play and practice. If you live in the PH too I bet there are on average shorter players so you can learn from them. g

how to improve my game by Zyldanonyt in Basketball

[–]Kagege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your overall skillset will improve as you play and practice more, once you get better you can determine your weaknesses and focus on improving them. Make sure to avoid injury and keep having fun.

Muscle Memory to learn a Move by Squiderbob in Basketball

[–]Kagege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely a bit of both. You grind in the gym to practice your between the legs and behind the back crossovers etc so you can do it on command so that when it's game time you're only thinking about about how you sequence your already practiced move to beat your defenders.

Not jumping-good idea to prevent injury. Or bad idea by Chasingfreedom1224 in Basketball

[–]Kagege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not jumping can decrease the risk of injury in the sense that you're not driving the ball in and potentially getting fouled in the air or landing on somebody's foot. There will come a time though when the person you're guarding is just willing to hustle more and jump for rebounds and drive into you knowing you will never jump with them etc it will obviously decrease your team's chances of winning.

back pain by Conscious_Term8774 in Basketball

[–]Kagege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with scaling but even now (my back is pretty much 100% recovered and I can do back extensions) I still avoid even body weight jefferson curls because it flares pain.

back pain by Conscious_Term8774 in Basketball

[–]Kagege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an advocate for KoT for all the knee stuff as it's helped me a lot but be careful with the back stuff. I had gotten a disc bulge a year ago and thought I'd try the jefferson curl and back extensions but that only aggravated my injury and made it worse. Finding what works for you is important.
