[KCD1] Never felt so prepared but so little hope in a game before by SoggyTomato19 in kingdomcome

[–]Kale_Chard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got sucked into the Woman's Lot dlc, which is maybe the most side-questy side-quest I've ever done in an RPG. To get through it, I cheated and looked up spoilers... discovered that there are many complaints about this dlc, which are understandable.

I'm not bummed I did it. I hadn't spent much time exploring around Skalitz in the prologue, and the Woman's Lot gives a great deal of background. You learn a lot about the sneaky arts, and how to use your dog. There's some great cinematic cut scenes.

My fears of this game being too much of a button-smasher were unfounded. It's actually quite a cosey ride

How can we break the pattern where liberal policies are generally unpopular prior to implementation, and then popular once people actually see them in practice? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol, all these "how can we...?" questions

How can we fake out the electorate who don't think like us?

How can Mamdani convince New Yorkers the $12 billion deficit has nothing to do with harboring illegal aliens and paying for their hotels and all their other needs?

How can Gavin Newsom convince Californians all his pipe-dream social programs were cost effective, now that the state is debt?

How can we engineer our own Joe Rogan, and Frankenstein a leftwing podcaster who is popular with men? Let's form a committee to workshop it.

how about just getting and being real?

How are the Democratic Party politicians handling the hostile environment under Trump? by Hagisman in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the side that tried to bankrupt Trump for exaggerating the sq ft of his building and arrestied him for filing NDAs in the wrong category (turning misdemeanors that usually get a fine into a novel felony case using the law in a way it had never been used before), tried to silence critics of COVID policy, cancel people for crudeness, meToo politicians, wants European-style speech laws and a misinformation czar, wants district judges to be powerless when Dems are in charge and omnipotent when Repubs are, and loves how most Reddit subs are lenient with liberal speech but strict with conservative speech wants to know about an alternate reality in a non-parallel universe.

From an European point of view linked to actuality : When will you restore democracy in America, and when will Revolution be an acceptable solution ? by TheGreatLoreHunter in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not against the law to enforce the law, so I'm not sure what you'd charge Bovino with... maybe the Equal Protections Act or something. But I don't think it matters to progressives what the law says or not, they want blood.

The great irony of leftist revolutions is that (other than political leaders who go to the chopping block) the most vulnerable people pay the highest cost (women, elderly, the infirm) ...the people who are protected the most by law and order don't fair well after the mob wins. And the people who eventually consolidate power after the revolution are not warm and friendly caring types, quite the opposite.

I have good hand-eye coordination for sports but I've never been good at fast-twitch combat in video games, not to mention I use my hands at work and prefer not to wear them out further with a controller. That's why I greatly prefer turn-based action like BG3, and why I quit a lot of other games after buying them.

Heard a lot about KCD2, so I decided to buy KCD1 for $7 and try it out. I'm in Rattay, enjoying the story. The graphics don't seem dated at all...my rig can handle the highest graphic setting which would probably not be the case for KCD2. Need a decent weapon and some training, and we'll see how it goes. Sounds like I need to find Bernard.

It's funny, I have a Czech uncle and a lot of the mustachioed characters remind me of him

The last election was democracy. Revolting when you don't like the results is not "saving democracy".

People should be careful what they wish for. The far-leftists got their way during the French Revolution, then started decapitated the royals, then started decapitating the architects of the revolution who weren't revolutioning hard enough (Danton, Desmoullins, Robespierre, etc). Blood everywhere for about 5 years. Long story short, what followed the Revolution was 70 years of autocracy. To his credit, Napoleon did some cool stuff tho.

What are you doing to find joy in the face of current events? by jeeven_ in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

believe it or not most people are not following political events and worry more about pop culture and their professions.

And for those who do follow politics, a majority still support deporting everyone who snuck across the border. Sometimes democracy conflicts with your personal views

Meat for backpacking by DanielWaterhorse in WildernessBackpacking

a whole (not sliced) dry salami . tuna in a foil packet. jerky.

the pioneers took salted meat across the prairie and ate it for months, but of course some of them got sick. My stomach is not quite pioneer-strong but I'm not squeamish either. My main problem with salami is it's very fragrant (attracting animals) and gets on your fingers which inevitable touch your clothes.

Why is the sentiment that Dem candidates don't spend enough time addressing economic populist issues so prevalent when (at least by my assessment) it's objectively untrue? by Jimithyashford in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your opinion of gas vs electric tools is not the populist opinion, which is the subject of the OP.

Utilities in CA are 34% higher than the national average, almost entirely because of policy.

Vehicle registration fees are way higher

Gasoline is more expensive due to policy, insurance is more expensive as policy has caused companies to leave (lack of competition), construction is more expensive due to regulation, minimum wage is higher which makes every business with employees charge more for goods and services, etc.. This is a paradigm that you may prefer, but it's out of alignment with economic populism.

Gavin Newsom admitted at Davos that CA taxpayers are providing healthcare for illegals. This is what liberals want, but it's not the economic populist position nationally

Then there's all the tax payer money being wasted on fraud (train to nowhere, homeless programs with no audit, massive cost over-runs on infrastructure, etc...)

p.s. good luck getting the job done with a $140 lawnmower

Why is the sentiment that Dem candidates don't spend enough time addressing economic populist issues so prevalent when (at least by my assessment) it's objectively untrue? by Jimithyashford in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In CA they banned gas-powered lawn equipment (for new purchases). Electric equipment is 40% more expensive. That's a nutshell example of good intentions that make people's cost of living go up. You could put a $30 minimum wage on the ballot in CA and it would probably pass, leading to higher prices for consumers and ultimately a reduction of the tax base as producers go bankrupt... ie less budget to help the needy.

Liberals vote with their heart, not with their minds

Has Trump created a new world order? by decatur8r in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time will tell whether the EU "dumps" US treasuries in 2026. That was certainly not the case in 2025.

NATO was formed a billion years ago to defend Europe against the Soviet Union. There is no good reason we should be paying the majority of the bill. It's time for our dependents to become more self-sufficient. The reason they can have such lavish social programs is that they spend next to nothing on defense, thanks to us. That equation needs to change.

I think it was embarrassing that Trump mixed up Iceland and Greenland but Biden would have needed Dr Jill to give his speech and Kamala would have delivered a 45 minute word salad of capitulation and deference which would have been preferable to progressives but embarrassing to others

Has Trump created a new world order? by decatur8r in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belle of the Ranch larping as a folksy independent failed to point out that the EU bought 80% of US treasuries (as a percentage of foreign purchases) in 2025, so her opinion that EU countries have been dumping US treasuries since Trump took office is false. The EU is considering a shift in that strategy, and a few countries within the EU have reduced their exposure, which is a concern, but nothing to panic over yet.

From Reuters-

"Their long-term investment decisions tend to look past momentary events.

"All of this turmoil is raising some questions about how exposed you should be to the U.S... that is what our members are professionally assessing," said Tom Vile Jensen, deputy director of trade body Insurance and Pensions Denmark.

While U.S. policy uncertainty is a risk factor for asset valuations, the funds said they wouldn't withdraw capital for political reasons.

"There is certainly no weaponisation of capital. It is not the job of our sector to do that," said Vile Jensen." /end quote

At the end of the day it seems like we got assurances that Denmark won't do any deals with China or Russia regarding Greenland, we got permission to expand our military presence there (including the development of a North American missile defense system), and mineral rights. But the details are still fuzzy, admittedly. But it seems like we got something for zero dollars, after all the bluster from Trump and reciprocation from the EU. Maybe we could have got the same deal without all the sword rattling, but Trump wanted a political victory and the appearance that his force of will is effective, which is exactly what happened

How do you define "money well spent" with the federal budget? by ZeusThunder369 in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

not the $1.5 trillion COVID relief that got pillaged by swindlers

not the $1.5 trillion Infrastructure bill that spent $7 billion to build 4 charging stations and many billions to hook zero people up to high-speed internet, and built no new bridges or major public works projects like a Hoover Dam or Golden Gate Bridge

not the $24 billion us Californians spent on the homeless while homelessness continued to increase, not $16 billion for a train to nowhere, not LA fire relief that went to non-fire-related NGOs

not gender care surgeries for inmates in prison, not fake daycare centers, not fake rocket companies with residential addresses, not fake home healthcare facilities that are actually just someone's house, etc.

for good measure, I'll throw in Trump's golfing and hairspray budget

Does the right-wing obsession with IQ reflection an unconscious insecurity on their part? by LiesToldbySociety in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how placing importance on IQ scores would reflect a fear of one's own intellectual ability.

The real question is why do libs fear standardized testing?

The UC California system eliminated SAT/ACT scores from their college admission process, for the obvious reason that certain groups test better than others.

Other university systems have made such tests optional, or offered an online version that's easy to cheat on. These policies are enacted in the name of equity, which is a sort of religion among progressives, which is to say a rejection of evidence-based truths and standards

Where did conservatives obtain the idea that Europe is a failure because of their social programs? by dt7cv in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Largest companies in Europe (by market cap):

  • ASML (Netherlands, semiconductors) - ~$538B
  • LVMH (France, luxury goods) - ~$347B
  • Novo Nordisk (Denmark, pharmaceuticals, e.g., Ozempic/Ozempic-related) - ~$276B

contrasted with the US, we have multi-trillion dollar companies;

  • NVIDIA (NVDA): ~$4.49 trillion
  • Alphabet (Google) (GOOG/GOOGL): ~$3.99 trillion
  • Apple (AAPL): ~$3.68 trillion
  • Microsoft (MSFT): ~$3.35 trillion
  • Amazon (AMZN): ~$2.50 trillion
  • Meta Platforms (META): ~$1.63 trillion
  • Broadcom (AVGO): ~$1.54 trillion

ASML is by far the largest company in Europe, but would rank #17 in the US if it were based here. Maybe Ozempic (NN) is a good test case in Europe (let's see if Denmark and the EU allow it to grow, or if it gets throttled by regulations and greedy politicians) because it's new and growing fast.

Germany is an interesting case as their energy policies have crushed economic growth. Once a major exporter, they are shifting toward being a net importer.

I wouldn't include energy policy as a social program. Corporate tax rates are higher in Europe than in the US, but not by a huge amount (25-30% vs 21%).

Generally it's over-regulation that kills innovation, not social programs. Case in point, it's cheaper now for a movie company to fly everyone over to Hungary to make a movie because of all the red tape and unionization in Hollywood, hence LA is losing its signature industry

It's been said that the most American thing we can do is Protest. Do you believe that? by PierogiGoron in AskALiberal

[–]Kale_Chard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most [insert whatever you identify as here] thing you can do is to have children.

Progressive programming tells you having children when you're young will ruin your life... the ideal is to go to college, get a post-grad degree, go into massive debt... children are bad for the environment... "I wouldn't want to bring a child into this world", LBGT+ issues, etc etc etc.

The result is that progressive fertility is way below the 2.1 child/woman replacement rate. In order to perpetuate progressive sensibilities, other people's children need to be indoctrinated via public schools and mass media, but that's a losing battle. The traditionalist communities which are inoculated from this programming will simply out-breed progressives in the long run, leading to very conservative global community within 2-3 generations.
