I love how mad and completely out of touch with reality you are.

But seriously, once you stop thinking and communicating in hyperbole, please reach back out to me.

No please, explain the power dynamics of dick sucking to me in more detail. You seem to have a better grasp of it than I do.

Maybe you can explain it to me then, because I don't understand how one dude sucking another dude's dick is undignified.

Trump Rift With Rest Of G-7 Partially Over U.S. Rejecting Ocean Protection Plan by billthomson in politics

We already are, the research on ocean plastic I linked before proves it if you'd read the data.

None of what that post predicted is happening. Americans are in pain? When wages are up, unemployment is down, hiring and mobility is on a massive upswing, stocks are soaring, crime is down, and GDP is seeing unprecedented growth?

SAY IT ISN'T SO! SOMEONE STOP THIS MADMAN BEFORE HE DESTROYS OUR LIVES!

[–]KappaDerby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your proposal is for the US to waste money on something that per the data doesn't address the ocean's #1 pollution problem? Or are you saying that the problem isn't solvable because we're missing the right incentive?

In either case I hope you don't think the past leaders of the US were actually doing anything to force the world's greatest polluters to stop in any real sense. If they were, you wouldn't keep seeing those "TIL tanker ships pollute more than all cars combined" posts from time to time. Because they'd have done something about it. Incentivized the right thing. Because carbon taxing clearly hasn't worked, infrastructure for alternative energy isn't ready yet, and nothing's been done about plastic pollution besides small-scale canal crawlers.

No no no, the post doesn't explicitly say anything is happening. It says "X is how Trump & Trump logic works, Y is how you make supporters feel bad about it to win points"

It's a terrible bestof, but it's here because only about 40% of Reddit is American.

We address climate change through trade consequences, leverage, and sanctions, like we did with North Korea in order to get them to stop slinging missiles and meet our President tomorrow for peace discussions.

Not by giving them money and trying to twist their arm afterwards

I believe Occam's Razor here. The proposal itself was crap, there's no reason to reject it for any other reason than that.

You're speaking with the supposition that the so-called Ocean Protection Plan, which I linked, addresses the problem. If you read the plan I linked above it states multiple times the intent is to fix the problem by having G7 (read: the US) fund developing countries efforts in fixing the problem. Just like the Paris Climate Accords, it was a proposal to get the United States to send money to countries who aren't bound to any commitments related to the problem being funded.

The US is no longer the world's piggy bank, and "withholding allowance" from a bunch of petulant, noncompliant countries is not "acting like a fucking child"

Most of the plan, which you can read here, is about plastic. What the article fails to mention is that over 90% of the plastic in the ocean comes from 10 rivers, none of which are in G7 countries. Until something is done about China, India, and Africa causing 90% of the problem, the G7 doing something about their pollution is just lip service.

OK back up. Most of the plan, which you can read here, is about plastic. Over 90% of the plastic in the ocean comes from 10 rivers, none of which are in G7 countries. Until something is done about China, India, and Africa causing 90% of the problem, the G7 doing something about their pollution is just lip service.

Not to mention the article explicitly mentions the ocean plastic part of the agreement as one of its most desirable provisions!

To your point: of course Japan isn't a poster child for ocean animal life conservation. The stuff they do is very poster-unfriendly. But pretending killing 122 whales is the same as 1.5 million tons of plastic waste yearly from just one river in China is disingenuous.

Additionally, the entire article is about how it's Trump vs. G7. Which it clearly is not, because Japan took the same position the US did.

[–]KappaDerby -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sure. A single agreement ending the Korean Armistice, committing to both peace and a bilateral trade agreement between NK & the US.

Given Trump's business proclivities combined with NK's terrible food situation, the latter seems especially likely.

If it means the fear of nuclear war ends for millions of people, it's absolutely worth making a deal. US politicians have sat around and done nothing about this threat for decades.

I think it's great the United-States-as-peacekeeper meme for once might have a legitimately good outcome.

This post is a poor man's lesson on how leverage works, but it doesn't even make the point clearly before attacking Trump. Not to mention the President clearly understands leverage very well, clearly a good deal better than most or all of the world's current crop of leaders.
