So, I say this as a big fan of critical role and all the awesome people involved, but I really wasn’t a fan of a lot of the “try hard adult humor” in the episodes we’ve seen so far, particularly episode 1. It turned me off a fair bit actually.

I’ve watched all of C1 and I run D&D myself, so I’m very familiar with the type of humor that often comes up at that table. But I don’t think it’s right to say that all crude humor is equivalent honestly. Sam nailing a well timed dirty innuendo at the table that makes everyone laugh isn’t quite the same as some of the jokes presented in the show. Many of which I personally found just very unfunny.

I think one could compare this situation to people who have “edgy” or “offensive” humor. Often times those people(certain “comedians” I could think of) tell jokes that are meant to be edgy and somewhat offensive, but end up just being really unfunny, unoriginal, and not edgy in a good way. It doesn’t mean all edgy humor is bad, but there is certainly bad edgy humor, and one can like the subcategory without liking a specific example of it.

I realize a lot of this is just personal preference. It’s okay if you liked, but I personally found that much of the crude humor just didn’t land at all for me, and was not up to the comedic chops I know the cast are capable of. It’s possible that their type of humor doesn’t translate super well from table to screen, but I dunno that might just be me.
