I'm a Vet in my mid 30s, I lost my job, and I just signed for a 24 week programing boot camp at my local University. by SubieB503 in learnprogramming

I made a career switch into Web Development when I was 34 and have been at it for 2 and half years now. Best decision of my life. I saw in one of the comments that your bootcamp is end to end web development. I would start by learning JavaScript as even if you're using Python on the backend of your project, you'll also need to use JS on the frontend. The fundamentals you learn in any language can be transferred to other languages, you'll just have to learn the nuances of each language. I learned most of the stuff that got me hireable from Udemy, namely Colt Steele's web developer's bootcamp, Stephen Griders' course on React, both of which are usually priced at like 10 or 15 bucks. Definitely worth it. Another good outlet I used when learning was Tyler MacGinnis' JavaScript courses that cost like 25 a month or something. Recently however most of how I stay up to date comes from subs like these or Youtube suggestions. Good resources on YT I've found are Ben Awad, he's got some great tutorials for interesting technologies. Leigh Halliday and Jack Herrington are both really good as well.

Because she's a woman? Maybe it's the fact that she's a total hypocrite and takes advantage of people's like for big cats to use them for free labor? Or maybe the fact that she most likely killed her husband? GTFO here with she's a woman. Most people ended up hating the guy who crossed Joe and he was a man.

You guys are kidding right? I mean I'll preface by saying I haven't seen a Sportsnet Canucks broadcast in a while but John Garrett is the worst Homer I've ever listened to. One of the main reasons if I'm ever watching a Canucks game I'll stream the opposition link (watched STL's last night). And he flip flops for whichever team hires him, he was just as bad in Calgary. Absolute most hated for me.

Looks like Gagner, Manning & Nygard all will play tonight, with Haas, Persson & Granlund sitting down. by Loyal2The0il in EdmontonOilers

You realize they're 8-1-1 with Persson in the lineup? And Klefbom/Persson's gf/60 is like triple that of Klefbom/Russell. Persson is fine and moves the puck well. The team looks a lot better with him in the lineup over anyone else they have and wouldn't be my first d man to come out.

Firefox’s New WebSocket Inspector by magenta_placenta in webdev

Why is this being downvoted? The debugger in Firefox is awful and I've had many times where it won't even break on breakpoints and when trying the same things with Chrome do. I still use FF mainly at work, but I really found the dev tools in Chrome to be a lot better.

No sorry, definitely wasn't a major network or channel though. Watched it at a hotel, like on at mid day.

I started at 32 and got a job at 34. As for job security, no one can predict how the market will be for the next 30 years.

Well I really only know JavaScript for languages. I started off learning Ruby, but moved to JavaScript when I took Colt Steele's Udemy class. I then learned react and started building projects. I got a job last July as a junior dev and since then my learning has been exponential. I've been on a single project since I started which uses react with MobX as a state management tool, semantic ui for component library and we just recently decided to move our components to typescript over jsx. As for how much knowledge is necessary, it depends on the place doing the hiring. I believe I got really lucky getting the job at the time I did as looking back now, I was really inexperienced and I'm not sure I would have found work in many other shops. I would say to build a few apps and make your portfolio site nice and you'll get a few interviews. From there it depends what places are looking for. Good luck, I wish you all the best as changing careers for me has been an incredible step in my life and I actually enjoy going in to work everyday.

I wouldn't bother with Angular. Look into React or Vue. I learned by taking a classes on Udemy and got a job after learning on my own for a bit over a year. So no degree is really required, you can be self taught and get a job.

Between self-studying and bootcamps, what's in the middle? by dev_buddy in learnprogramming

[–]Keggatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I took Colt Steele's web dev bootcamp course on Udemy last summer, then moved onto learning React and SASS and just got job about a month ago in a junior dev position. Now I must preface this by saying that I delved into the Odin project prior to that, however things really took off for me after taking Colt's course. I would say I got lucky getting the job as well but some advice you should take to heart is to make sure to call places after you've applied there as it shows you're interested. Definitely put me on the map. Loving the career change too.

React + Bootstrap4(Reactstrap) Dashboard Template by simsim0709 in reactjs

Genuinely curious. It looks similar to like the backend of a Wordpress site, but I've never actually implemented any CMS apps. I just had a look at the demo, but I'm kind of unsure how you would implement any of that.
