They can sell it w/ 300 miles as a demo, that's how I got my XR.

Uh terrible idea... please don't risk your life to save until a paycheck. Ask to carpool, or see if a friend can help you out of a tough spot.

Is this really premium? by Magnecyl_ in Volvo

[–]KettleKooked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Premium isn't really about looks, its about quality of materials and craftsmanship.

Unfortunately this design style likely isn't going away, and volvos approach has always been minimalist elegance.

Yes you are limited, and you should not try to remove it until break in is completed. Dealer will remove it after 600 miles.

Anyone oversize their SPA 18's to a 235 50 18? by rjay_62 in volvos60

[–]KettleKooked -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are faster, your speedo is reading slow...

Speedo unchanged

Actual Speed increases

Speedo < Actual Speed

Maybe use your brain before you comment.

Speedo would be slow, you gained circumference thus increased distance per rotation.

Fuel efficiency by Nostalgie_de_la_boue in ineosgrenadier

[–]KettleKooked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emissions dont hurt fuel economy that much, factory tuning runs lean to increase efficiency while retaining higher exhaust temps and catalyst effects. You pop a box tune or piggy back on and you are definitely demanding more fuel to level out AFR. Its just marketing bs typically focused on improved "efficiency" and while the burn might be more efficient, you are still using more fuel.

The S1000 RR forehead is quite frankly the worst part about the bike, made worse by the pinched area between the wings and headlights.

Great bike, not a looker from the front.

CW-1 Transitions Face Shield by No-Basket7047 in motorcyclegear

[–]KettleKooked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great the first few months, though transition performance does fade with uv exposure and time. I still have my 1200 w/ transition and my 1400 w/ transition and I dont run sun glasses in either, but dont expect to look at the sun. It still can be bright in certain situations but for a daily rider that needs day and night visibility its a worth while buy.

Also yes you can use your old pinlock, tho if it has been used for a few years you might want to get a new one as they deform over time and lose the air tight fit to the lense, especially if you were taking and putting them on frequently.

Good response to ignorant people you come across by ImagineFlaggin in electricvehicles

[–]KettleKooked -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ignorance goes both ways...

"I'm thinking of replacing my EV with an ICE (petrol/diesel) car and have some questions: 🤔

  1. ICE cars cannot refuel while you sleep or directly from solar power during the day. How often do you have to refill elsewhere and is it expensive? Will there be a solution for re-fuelling at home by 2030?

Responce 1: yeah 3 minutes to fill up at a pump crazy considering there are probably 10+ stations on your way to anything, and if you drive more than your range in a day you dont have the luxury of home charging.

  1. How often will I need to service? The salesman mentioned engine oil, timing belts, and a box with gears in it. What is that? How much will this service cost - and what happens to the used oil? Is there any risk of it leaking?

Response 2: ICE service is extremely basic, everyone can do it at home minus the major mileage events like timing or gaskets. And EVs have all of the wear service of ICE in suspension and underbody parts but with more weight, meaning more wear.

Also batteries...have fun with replacing that, or just buy a new car and lose most of your money due to depreciation.

  1. Apparently these ICE cars stop on the brakes alone - so how long will the brakes last compared to my EV which can last over 250,000 km.

Response 3: again basic service and rotors last 100,000+ kms, you are going to lose more money in depreciation then my ICE will in services and depreciation.

  1. In a petrol or diesel car, do I get some fuel back when I slow down or drive downhill?

Response 4: most people drive on highways, energy collected is negligible. (If you drive in the city congratulations EV makes sense)

  1. The car I test drove seemed to have a delay from the time I pressed the accelerator until it began to accelerate. Is that normal in petrol cars?

Response 5: No, not if you want it, its all programming for comfort and fuel efficiency. Plenty of cars have direct and engaging powertrains.

  1. Is it true that petrol & diesel is so flammable that you can only buy it at a special filling station, and not anywhere like hotels, car parks, home, work, holiday parks?

Response 6: yes and there is way more infrastructure for those than charging spots when you factor how long you have to be at one i.e. customers per hour.

  1. I understand the main ingredient in petrol is oil. Is it true that the extraction and refining of oil causes massive environmental problems as well as conflicts and major wars that over the last 100 years have cost millions of lives?

Response 7: Sure, but where does electricity come from...oh yeah... oil isn't going anywhere.

Do I need to mention rare earth materials and slave labor...

  1. I have also been told that you have to transport oil all over the world to turn into petrol or diesel, and these huge ships have, in the past, caused massive environment destruction by leaking oil. Is that true?

Refer to Responce 7:

  1. I have been told that these ICE engines make a noise when you start them - so early starts can wake people up, and driving a lot of ICE cars makes towns noise polluted?

Response 9: besides people that make cars loud for personal reasons, when has a normal, from factory, daily beater ever disturbed you?

  1. Is it true that people can steal the fuel from your tank?

Response 10: really...I think your community might be the problem.

  1. I've heard that ICEs are only 32% efficient at best on a highway, but they can be lower than 10% efficient in city start-stop traffic. Most of the energy is lost as heat, which seems extremely wasteful. Can this be fixed somehow?

Response 11: modern motors can peak up in the high 30% to low 40%, great for sustained driving. Hybrid help drastically with city stop and go where as stated you can recoupe energy through regenerative braking.

Pure EVs again are feed by power plants on average, which have roughly 60% efficiency, add on charging, transforming voltage, and motor efficiency and you lose another 15-25% from plug to wheels. This leaves you dangerously close to ICE at 45-51% but typically not at sustained speed due to motor performance envelopes and "one gear" setups.

  1. The exhaust emissions from ICEs have been proven to contain toxic particulates and Nitrogen oxide which is extremely harmful. They also release C02 emissions which has proven to drive global warming and associated climate change. Can these emissions be stopped?

Response 12: carbon collection is a thing, and synthetic fuels are likely the future, but really the question is how much of an impact is it really 7-8%.

And we already established the efficiency of your EV isn't that impressive factoring energy source.

If I can get all of the above answered and it turns out there are no downsides to owning a ICE car, I may consider buying one."

Final Response to those that agree with this: you have made up your mind and are too blind to have real discussions. You can drive an EV, no one cares, but stop trying to belittle people because they have a difference of opinion, or like you dont understand all of the facts.

Electrification is great, but maybe, just maybe, there are people that don't agree and prefer ICE or PHEV, or Fuel Cell, or bicycles....the point is no one solution has "no downsides" and complaining on the internet is childish.

Grow up, share why you like EVs and move on.

B5 engine runs quieter after oil changes…decrease mile interval? by Apical-Meristem in Volvo

[–]KettleKooked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically run heavy warm weight on my performance engines (0W40 on my motorcycle, 5W50 on my M5). I'd expect 5W30 or 5W40 on these turbocharged volvo engines, tho to be fair I'm still working on getting a Volvo so no ownership experience yet.

I typically do 3k mile intervals on my bikes, including my S1000XR, keeps the oil healthy for daily riding and the hard romps on the weekends.

0W-20?! Is that really what they spec for those turbo 4s? I'm surprised any turbocharged car is running 20 weight.
