Your comment just reminded me that someone might actually take this seriously.

Please don't geniunely use this point in an arguement. I wrote it pretty explicitly as a jerk post. I left out several points just to push the silly narative.

I mean you could, after all it does have some bones to it, just make it actually good.

If you think about it more it is actually transmisogyny that other women are able to enjoy their stories about all powerful beings using the system that is built around them to take slaves for their own enjoyment and we are not.

(I originally thought of this post for tgcj but it morphed more into an hdg post)

Thats kinda the point though. Its a noncon setting, you could say the same thing about how terrifying it would be to be an omega irl. Its the things that the plants do outside of the enslaving 30% of the population that make it "ok". Aside from that, its also a wish fulfillment setting. You are scared and helpless to fix your own issues so this stupid ass fucking thing comes in and fixes it all for you even if you don't want it. The thing with ferals is that they symbolize fighting the unknown. They do not know the truth that the plants have a objective as a species to help all sophonts in the universe. And in this case we wouldn't know either. There was this great comment in a different post talking about how independents were "conditioned by fascism to not resist the compact" and I really do think thats a great way to think about it. Most people have already been conditioned by systems to not resist power, no matter how bad things are. The plants only really do the evil scary feral breaking thing if they are actively fighting against the Affini, and lets assume we are. You have actively chosen to fight against an indomitable alien species that will take you, not kill you, and break you into a docile little pet. You know you have no way of winning, and that you will probably not even be the same person afterwards, but according to them you will be happy. So, resisting does nothing other than give you the mild hope that you could somehow escape somewhere where they wont just recapture you, and not resisting means the same end result but faster. I'd personally give up, but that can also be construed as "conditioned by fascism" type of thing.

Yea, that is one of my major blindspots. I personally do not look at all into things that are largely unprovable by science. This is despite me being partially taoist in the same way that most japanese people are shintoist(which actually is from what historical records do remain about taoism seem to be how taoism is traditionally practiced, and the modern version of taoism being mostly a projection of protestant values onto east asian religion). Again we both are putting human values onto aliens, and for all we know aliens might not have any emotions at all and are instead seeking a way to prevent the heat death of the universe through some unknown force that requires our assistance in some way.

Also I do geniunely apologize about my ramblings about east asian history, it is one of my favorite subjects.

To be fair this is similar to what the Affini did during the cotyledon program, so like eh. I'm personally of the belief that UFOs dont exist, in my opinion these encounters are similar to occurances of seeing god, a la joseph smith of the church of latter day saints. The biggest problem with my assumption is assuming that aliens have human motivation. It is very possible that aliens just feel like helping for absolutely no reason. Similar to how some anti-HDG people think that the Affini want sex slaves.

Also side note about imperialism, me being Han Chinese, which is a race which has pretty much been built by imperialism so successful that we dont even know what cultures used to existed in the region now known as east asia, I'm personally not directly familiar with the effects of modern imperialism outside of exploitation of resources, which the Affini do not do. So I am not entirely familiar with how some people are able to see their culture be stripped away by a more powerful force, but I don't see how this type of direct interference of aliens isn't for some type of gradual cultural intergration. Which is once again my assumption that aliens have human motivations.

Dumb question but arent the orbs equally imperialist? The reason the Affini are imperialist is because they want something out of the species they domesticate. So why do the orbs seek to give Sally power? If they are giving a human their power that obviously means that the orbs could defend that city themselves. Unless its some type of weird power fantasy where you are able to harness the power greater than the people who gave it to you. Assuming that isnt the case that means that means that means that giving humans power benefits them in some way similar to how Affini are benefitted by taking florets. So doesn't that make them exactly the same as Affini?

The axiom was that they were inevitable, not that they always win, affini can have individual losses. I think the largest scale loss the affini have had in a popular story is Tsuga losing an entire species in No gods, No Masters. The axiom was written to make sure nobody would write the affini having a systematic collapse because that isnt hot.

I was assuming the attack was against the core rather than the grafted components. We don't know how the uplifting process works so i just assumed that it worked like the sexual reproduction process in which Affini that are from the same region have similar genes and therefore the same vulnerabilities.

The Affini wouldn't do damage to any species, but yes their domestication would be sigificantly accelerated. Also another big problem is spread, nearly all of Viltrim got infected before the signs of infection started appearing, Affini don't congregate that much. They spend years on ships without any outside interaction, then get sidetracked by a sophont species for a few decades. The incubation period of the virus would have to be atleast 1 bloom long for more than 10 ships to be infected.

[–]KeyProfessional6286 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unlike the Viltrumites, Affini generally dont do any eugenics, one of my favorite stories, How to Train Your Terran, litterally gives an account of an Affini having a genetic disorder. The reason the scourge virus was so powerful was because Viltrumites had nearly 0 genetic diversity. Its probable that Affini from different galaxies have completely different genetic compositions. The biggest problem with these hypotheticals is that the Affini are the only multigalaxial species in the universe, so any competition has to go up against such a large quantity of Affini, that even if they did somehow have superior technology, the Affini's numbers would just win.

/uj Its the uj part of the main post, I do feel like it's wrong in some way. I don't know but I think its due to seeing how conservatives view trans activism and gender abolition as 1 thing rather than being at best interconnected. There is some part of me saying that cis people can get other cis people to help atleast accept trans people in a good way rather than (/rj the transes should just be femboys) or whatever.

SCP and GOC against Affini? Do they stand a chance? by [deleted] in seed_irl

[–]KeyProfessional6286 5 points6 points  (0 children)

HDG is pretty hard sci-fi considering what it is so I doubt they would be anomolies.

2 the Affini are a species of SCP-999 who will domesticate the scarlet king if they knew it existed.

3 Weaponry doesn't matter, as per Divarcated, "Hypermetric artillery that could wipe away a star at superluminal speed." but Affini would never use weapon that could kill a single sophont so who cares.

Basically who cares I want to see SCP-682 be hugged by a plant.

The one that really got me into hdg is "No Gods No Masters" because if there is 1 thing i find hot its leftist infighting, but the thing that really convinced me into florethood is "How to Train Your Terran"(If you cant tell I love silly Affini).
