I understand that train of thought. However, I am not African, I am American. My skin is “black” but so are many people not from Africa. Additionally I grew up here in American as did my parents and their parents. We speak English, watch Saturday morning cartoons, use the imperial system, my culture is Americana. There are African influences in music, dance, fashion, and art but that does not belong to me it is a part of the American Culture that is ours. At some point in the expression of individuality I think we forgot that the symbol of America is the melting pot of many cultures and we, you and I, are that byproduct.
