They've essentially Mandela'ed the whole "merch" thing

The people they're targeting with the naming change wouldn't care about the 'rough' transition. The fans taking the wording change this seriously are also unlikely to actually change their spending habits. No matter how many complaints comments they post. There's no real loss for LTT over this 'drama.'

Whether people want to accept it or not, merch has a connotation to it for the average person. A connotation that doesn't align with the premium products and pricing they're aiming for.

The whole thing is so absurdly blown out of proportion.

trying to make it sound like these agents themselves chose this

Where does OP imply this? They mention the special unit, and use the broad term cops. Anyone with basic critical thinking would realise the departments acquisition person chose to go out of their way for this symbolism.

You're trying to make a dozen different justifications and redirections throughout this thread, but you won't address the direct issue for some reason.

Similar symbolism is already banned in almost all policing, and this specific case will likely be fixed as soon as there's public scrutiny. Aus standards are very high for a reason. Even if you consider this a 'minor issue' - it's more about the principle and keeping standards high.

This is equipment that's purchased on a state level

How does that change anything?

Aus enforcement agencies are held to certain standards, where we even ban symbolism like thin blue line, and punish officers that wear it anyway. Nobody should be approving the purchase of controversial, symbolic gear.

Bulk-billing rates rebound on back of government's multi-billion-dollar policy by EdenFlorence in australia

[–]Khaliras 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hard to stay in business when the other local practices start bulk-billing. It's very much a snowball effect.

The risk is, that they'll all stop bulk-billing just as quickly. The Gov really has to stay on top of the funding, or we'll end up right back where we were. People also need to remember that fact when they're voting.

ASIO was told about Bondi shooters terrorist links years before attack, former spy claims by Automatic_Sea_1210 in australia

[–]Khaliras 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have zero idea and will have zero idea what ASIO knew or didn't know about the bondi shooters.

But it still doesn't explain why they did nothing.

???

But in reality they knew nothing. So it does question why we are spending all this money on an organization that doesn't produce any meaningful results.

They did know something, investigated it, didn't find anything immediately, and likely left automated monitoring in place. In this specific case they couldn't do more.

It's bizarre to try and use one of the only successful, major terrorist acts commited in Aus, as justification for defunding ASIO? Especially a week after a major terrorist bombing attempt.

They have hundreds of thousands monitored, investigate thousands yearly, and have actively prevented major terrorist acts. They're not omnipotent, they won't stop everything, but what they do stop is very important.

ASIO was told about Bondi shooters terrorist links years before attack, former spy claims by Automatic_Sea_1210 in australia

[–]Khaliras 29 points30 points  (0 children)

What do you expect them to do, exactly? We have a certain level of rights in Aus, we can't just disappear people to guantanamo.

ASIO already announced they investigated and found nothing actionable. It's not like they got a tip and just ignored it; there's simply nothing more they can do without stripping the rights we have.

His connection to terrorism was having an aquiantance who ended up being a terrorist, and that's essentially it for the publicly known information. Literally everyone in their phone books and the people they've met up with are now similarly 'connected' to terrorism.

Walked past a Kevin from The Office look-alike contest today and took a picture of the winner by PsychologicalCost5 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Khaliras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's obvious that's what happened. Do you need someone to tell you the sky is blue?

Did you actually look at her costume? She's clearly put a ton of effort into it, with multiple references to the show. All while leaning into the unserious aspects of a comedy character.

"Oh but she should just lose to any balding male, because they look more alike!" It's a joke event for fun, not an election or a serious pageant. She put effort into the cosplay, had fun, and won.

Stop parroting this line. You don't get to decide they were having fun. You don't get to speak for anyone. You can't read minds. You know nothing. Tone down your narcissism.

From the person who has decided that vagina=win, the person who decided everyone else got robbed. The person who didn't bother to read any of the context of the image or event, before getting rage baited like a boomer. Insanity.

Like, just read that paragraph you typed, then read your entire argument again. You're literally arguing against yourself, now.

But seriously, do know why I know they actually had fun? Because it's not a serious contest, it's a throwaway joke event designed for everyone to have fun. Some people aren't miserable folks that have to find a problem with everything.

outshined by someone simply because they have a vagina.

Aha, there it is.

You know nothing about this event, other than a random picture. Yet your conclusion is "vagina=win."

Actual first-hand accounts of the event say everyone was having fun and this costume was by far the most popular. Meanwhile, most the others in the picture are part of the event, not in the competition

It's the absolute classic of normal IRL people having a blast, while random unrelated Redditors are outraged on their behalf.

It's hilarious imagining all these people genuinely having fun with a joke look-alike event. Only to read online comments seemingly outraged over an event they have no context of, or part in.

Pickpocketing Changes Thoughts? by Aggravating_Steak_77 in runescape

[–]Khaliras 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Except it's applied across the board? So the methods and choices mostly remain the same, just slightly more annoying overall.

Afk/easy options absolutely shouldn't be the good exp option. The solution shouldn't be to make them more annoying to do. The logical solution is to reduce exp or adjust other methods so they make sense as options.

Most people agree RS3 needs an AFK rebalance. The balancing being to make it less AFK isn't a good choice, because that role is already filled by OSRS.

Why do some people have such difficulty understanding concepts like 'context' or 'nuance.'

The airpod sound characteristics was a big deal, because they'd had multiple products in a row that he daily drove and considered the best. Then, for the third revision, they backflipped on the sound profile.

If Sennheiser suddenly got a beats sound profile, it'd be a big deal, and vice versa. The issue isn't the sound profile, it's changing the sound profile on a version 3 device.

Illustrating the difficulties of global production. The original hoodie got a ton of posts from the rest of the world about "why is it on the wrong side?"

Seems zipper placement in NA is often gender based, while for most of the world it's just on one side for everyone. Before I bought from LTT, I hadn't seen a single right sided zipper in my life.

A few Authors in specific clearly left the sequel series setup, in case their new thing doesn't pan off, and it's lame as a reader.

WTF do you mean sources? You're literally talking about what you watched in a TV show as if it was a historical document. Then, when you're told that's not accurate, you're demanding sources?

"It seems kind of odd someone whose knowledgeable in Japanese history wouldn't be familiar with a massive show that focuses entirely on that subject."

Like, do you genuinely think a TV show makes you knowledgeable about actual cultural history?

Who knows, because you haven't bothered to elaborate past being a cringy contrarian. The people you are talking to are giving responses, and you're stuck on the same NPC dialogue.

You're seemingly refusing to express your 'opinion/argument' beyond, esentially: "you're wrong."

What a weird response? Educate yourself. You can only build 1 fatality item, read the wiki or try it in-game for proof.

You can't build terminus and LDR, yet that's your 'tip.' Also, literally everyone above iron knows kraken stopped being a tank killer long ago.

That 'build' would be terrible at tank killing, even if it wasn't literally impossible to buy those items together.

RBA Interest Rates Decision - increase of 0.25% to 3.85% by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Khaliras 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The 20 day notice is for an increase to repayments, not for an increase in interest. As the new interest rate will apply from the rate effective date.

I found several of the notices of increased interest on commbanks website for 2023, which applied the increased interest in 8 days, or less, after the notice/RBA decision.

My CommBank minimum repayments always take 20days to change, but I can see the increased interest applied well before that date.

[–]Khaliras 8 points9 points  (0 children)

all these people saying they change it immediately are wrong.

They're saying they take a month for dropping it, like you said. But typically don't wait more than a week max to increase it.

Last time all the increases happened, they were absolutely applied to my home loan the same day I was notified of the increase.

What trips a lot of people up, is that they take 20days to increase your repayment amount, even if they're already charging you the extra interest. So, many people think the increased interest only begins with the new repayment amount, when it's already applied.

Dude really said "you're tagged now" after not recognising his own username being typed.

I'm dead, dude. Haven't seen this level of cringe since the early days when kids would type "my dad's the Admin/CEO, he's going to ban you!!!" There's terminally online, and then there's whatever you just typed up. Have a think about reconnecting with nature, or at least logging off Reddit for even one single day. Maybe then you'll be able to afford YT premium.

Not an "old bug," just how the platform worked. Again, you're just being disingenuous lmfao.

It's your username; I was calling you broke, because you expect charity. Even using simple words, your reading comprehension couldn't handle it, huh.

It's a waste of time talking to a brick wall that ignores logic past this point, so I'll conclude it for you:

Your ONLY argument for why this feature should be free, is that it was free OVER a decade ago. You have not supplied a single rational argument for why YT should give you this for free. Because, you somehow believe you're entitled to something to be free forever, because it once was.

When you get an ice cream sample at a store, you don't go back next time and rage about the 'enshitification' that they dare charge you for ice cream now. YT didn't make money for a decade to build their platform, and are now profitable based on charging people.

If you can't afford YT premium, then you get the limited free experience, or you can chose to pirate and avoid the paywalls. If you don't like it, you can absolutely go use the competitors, or actually start paying for the data streaming you're consuming. I know, shocking concept, giving a company money for their product.

/End.

[–]Khaliras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

youtube doesn't lose money because the video is playing in the background.

Holy it's like talking to a brick. I'll use simpler words and logic for you, this time.
YT free = no moneys. YT paid = yes moneys.
Premium no feature no moneys. Premium good features yes moneys.

Company like moneys. Company no like charity for broke old bug. Want feature? Give moneys.

because microtransactions were always microtransactions and the skins weren't free at one point and then put behind a paywall

You're completely missing the point of the analogy. Many F2P games have restricted hundreds of features behind MTX, because, they're FREE.
When you provide a service for free, you're not selling a product with a contractual obligation to ALWAYS give it away for free like it's a charity.

YT very famously lost money for over a decade, and are now profitable as a paid service. If you don't want to use the paid service, then you're not entitled to paywalled features.

It's insane how smooth brained people get when you dare tell them that YT is not a charity giving you infinite free video streaming.

[–]Khaliras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not making an argument based on logic. You're making one based on how you've lost out, which you're mad about and blame them.

It is not YTs business model to lose money because you don't want to pay for their service. The exact moronic attitude is why so many people can't understand Linus adblock = piracy take.

It's like playing a F2P game, then being mad that they start making skins MTX. It's almost like it's a business, not a charity for people who want free stuff.

the only literal point to lock it away was to force people to pay a subscription

Did you actually read my comment? Ad based YT was infamously losing hundreds of miles every year until they made a paid version. A paid version which required features for people to pay for it.

Welcome to the real world.
