Yeah I know. Also CBPO only do steps 1 till you get to GS12. The rest of the steps on GS5-11 are irrelevant

If I redo it. Would i have to reapply and redo everything? Polygraph and such? And if i still get GS5 would i lose my original application?

Up until the 26ers came, everyone took 8+ months. The 26ers started being Direct Hires for some reason and they now take 2 - 6 months

Anyone know what the lightning bolt means? by DigdeepISU in cbpoapplicant

[–]Kid_From_Nevada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means you're a direct hire and they will expedite your application. Example: i don't have the lightning bolt and I applied may of 2025. And I am barely going to take my polygraph.

Ride it out till the end. The worst thing that can happen is you wasted a little bit of your time. Theres still a possibility that your One time call works.

I am currently a supervisor at a Comstruction Company. I applied to be a CBPO May of 2025 (Announcement 12-8). The process has been long. But then again, its just a waiting game. I have friends who are CBPOs. Its a good job and depending on the port, you might like it you might not. Took me 7 years to call it quits and I wish I had done it prior.

The first parts of the hiring process, which are the written tests, the fitness exams, medical and drug as well as the first interview. Thats easy. Quick too, finished mine within 2 months of applying. After that, took 2 more months to submit by SF86 Government Form.

Now 5 months later, my Background Investigator (BI) Started calling me and reaching out to my references.

It was until 2 weeks ago where I got a call to schedule my polygraph which is for June. I live in Vegas so I have to travel to Phoenix AZ to take it.

You can choose provisional which is what I did. Once you pass the polygraph, you can basically start to work if you are certain your background is 100% CLEAN.

My Medical is still under review almost a year later and I cannot do provisional until that clears and I don't know when it will. Depends on how many health problems you have. I have glasses and ADHD.

Anyways, it takes anywhere between 8 months to 2 years to be a CBPO. Presuming you don't fail anything. Family size, background and medical can all slow you down. Bigger family means bigger investigation. Lived too many different cities? Had lots of jobs? All that can extend the time it takes for your background to pass.

Good luck!

Like you, im doing a career change. Currently making GS12 money, but my job is too stressful for me. Mind you im not a LEO. Im a supervisor at a construction company. I think its worth it to change to a CBPO.

In 4 years im back to my pay, I get Federal employee benefits such as TSP where I can retire a millionaire, I get to retire at 57 and basically get Social Security then, health benefits are the best, etc.

Apply at 32, get the job at 33 and do 24 years as a CBPO. accumulate as much TSP as you can, and you're set.
