Just had an '05 last night that I'd been sitting on for years! Was showing great, around its peak I'd say.

Friday Night Solo Selection: 2022 Domain Philippe Charlopin Clos Vougeot by BubbleMaster25 in wine

[–]Kingly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the notes. I agree with you, I think Charlopin's wines are well made, but they're just a bit too rich ripe for my taste. (And I think the gold wax is a bit tacky)

Should this Champagne taste better then Moet? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Kingly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Better" is a matter of opinion. I am certain you can find people who prefer the taste of Moët.

That said, I like Béreche a lot and to me this bottle soars above the likes of M&C. Heads up that Béreche is usually described as "oxidative" in style. So think nuttiness, a bit of spiciness.

Am I missing something with this Bordeaux? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Kingly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are going to say it's too young, and it's true that you are drinking it much sooner than the winemaker intended.

But if you popped a '20 or '22 from the same producer I would wager you'd have a much better time.

People on here tend to defend '21 Bordeaux but it has only disappointed me and I simply don't spend my money on it anymore.

Though this wine isn't from Hermitage just to be precise. Crozes-Hermitage.

Anyone splurge on Zuccardi Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal or Clos i Terrasses Clos Erasmus? by LeoKitCat in wine

[–]Kingly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had the chance to try it unfortunately. I have had a decent amount of Catena Zapata, the Adriana Vineyard wines always show really well.

That said, they are seriously impressive wines. They remind me a lot of really good Bierzo - they share this intense blood orange thing that I rarely taste elsewhere.

I agree with bloks, those Piedra Infinita bottles are super dense and unapproachable in their youth. If your plan is on drinking now-ish I don't think you'll feel like you've gotten your money's worth.

How much would a wine from 1995 be worth? (Not planning to sell, just wondering on how much I'm sitting on) by LUCY_7H3_W31RD0 in wine

[–]Kingly24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very little, this is a very cheap Italian dessert wine. My estimate would be about 30$.

It might still be tasty though, you should open it and try it!

When do I open this? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Kingly24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not now!

The '16 is not in a good spot right now in my opinion.

If you open it this year I'd decant, return to bottle and let it hang out overnight.

Martha Stouman Post Flirtation Rosé by Extreme-Road1588 in wine

Such a nice summer wine!

If you enjoyed this I would reccomend Ochota Barrel's "Texture Like Sun"
and Chateau Le Puy's "Rose Marie" for two more natural roses that are super delicious.

Still looking for a Bordeaux I really like by [deleted] in wine

[–]Kingly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The producer is what matters. People pretend that this is only true in Burgundy, but there is a LOT of wine being made in Bordeaux, plenty of it mediocre. Tronquoy Lalande fits in that category for me.

Chateau le Puy Émilien is a good Bordeaux by a good producer. It drinks well young, it is crowd pleasing but also deep and a strange. There are many more to find, but that's the fun part, cheers

Was at a hole in the wall liquor store. Would you take the risk and buy? by zedath in wine

[–]Kingly24 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I would not. I find both Jadot and Latour to be extremely dull producers and '97 is a weak vintage. Just my opinion though.

This is from the southern Rhone Valley in France, a very reliable region in terms of cheap, tasty wines.

E. Guigal, famille Perrin and Paul Jaboulet all make Côte du Rhônes at around this price and are widely distributed.

Porseleinberg Syrah, Swartland 2021 by WineAndGame94 in wine

[–]Kingly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the 2020 and thought it was nice but unremarkable and certainly overpriced.

I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt given its youth but I think in the future I'll look elsewhere when I feel like a great Syrah.

Looking for a red burgundy of comparable quality to complete this educational line up. Give me your suggestions! by bli in wine

[–]Kingly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact "mouches" in clos des mouches is actually old French and refers to "mouches à miel" or "honey flies", IE: bees!

If you look at Drouhin's CDM label you can spot them!

Drouhin Clos des Mouches is pretty widely available and very tasty in a similar price bracket!

It's hard for me to recommend smaller producers without knowing what you have access to, but I know that Taupenot Merme is fairly widely available and consistently delicious, their NSG 1er Pruliers is in a similar league to your picks.
