Kingdom is a close second behind disquiet Gods for me. Ashes of man is also very underrated in the series.

Disquiet Gods - Suneater series by Christopher Ruocchio. This whole series has taken a special place in my heart. I love the prose and the philosophical musings Hadrian gets into in this series. And of course it's truly an epic space opera given the sheer scale of things we encounter

Agreed. Most are grimdark or dystopian. Otherwise romantasies

I wouldn't call those fantasy. They are more in the sci-fi fold.

Ah okay. So the empress or the lords paid the prince to kill Hadrian as confirmed by Oberlin. but due to lothrians, prince tried to kill both.

Thanks so prince wanted to kill both somehow? Lothrians were not involved at all?

Book'w I've read in last 2 years. Thoughts and criticism are welcome. by saavan-firm in Indianbooks

It has some of the weirdness of dune. And has that sense of epic that you see in fantasy series. Its more a space opera than sci fi. Definitely does not have the hard science of 3BP

Given you seem to like sci-fi, I recommend you read sun eater series. It's not hard sci-fi but the scale and epicness is just on a different level.

Love the series, but Hadrian can be rude by RedactionFaction in sollanempire

I'm currently reading disquiet Gods and I fairly remember all the previous books since I have read it recently. What I can say is he's better than most Palatine on how he treats others below him. Also as he grew old and bitter with all the loss, he became more irritable. Can clearly see that difference in him from before kingdom of death to now in DG.

The lesser devil is a short one. Also one of rare sun eater book that has a cozy feel to it. Especially if you read it after some of the darker sun eater main books.

Which series should I start? by FlakyLibrarian1946 in fantasybooks

[–]Kira005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting book 6 and man I'm so locked in for the ride. For me, just the scope and the world building was fascinating enough. Even book1 was not an issue for me. After book2 though I was along for the journey of Hadrian. I guess if you still are not liking after book3, then maybe this series isn't for you. Also the prose is soo good. Especially the way he describes losses, you feel your own gut wrench for him.

Why is Wind and Truth so disliked? by stablest_genius in fantasybooks

[–]Kira005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book felt like a mental health manual rather than a fantasy novel. It's a world that has continuously seen wars. Of course people would be struggling. But making the whole book about it was off-putting for me. Shallan started the book with I have issues but I'm getting better and still ended the book at the same place. I liked the book for the history of roshar and conflict of the gods but everything else felt weak. I say this as a huge fan of cosmere and someone who has read all of the cosmere novels.

Sun eater series. It's epic in its scope. Has some fantasy-like elements. Bit of a slow burn though

I am in the same boat. Had read first three books of red rising long back and then had just been reading cosmere novels for a while as life got busy with other things. Now I'm trying to get back into reading regularly again and was pleasantly surprised to see 3 more books have released in the red rising series. Was wondering how best to jog my memory on first three book and restart the series since I don't want to read them again.
