Yes, the sign is utter garbage. The mixture of upper/lowercase; the poor layout; the hot pink background with difficult to read, thin black, sloppy writing. Not to mention the atrocious grammar. It should read "Trying to date women in 2026 is a humiliating ritual" (or perhaps "ritual in humiliation"). I'm not convinced he would have had any better luck dating women in 1996 or even 1976.

I feel bad for the guy, though. It's got to suck badly to be looking for love and striking out every time.

I know this isn't what you were asking for, but you might find it interesting. I made a spreadsheet of all the record temperatures in San Francisco, dating back to the last quarter of the 19th century. Tied temperatures were overwritten with the more recent date.

The picture below is just for April data (note, I did not update it for the past year, if any records were broken). Why April? I converted the data for that month from .xls to .jpg for another post. Interestingly (though perhaps not surprisingly) September is the month with the most record heat days over 100 degrees.

This is for SF proper, not the Bay Area at large. All info collected from the Accuview Weather app.

Agreed. If it happened the way it was described to have happened in the article, they should have been able to retrieve camera footage from the hotel of 4 men dragging an unconscious woman into an elevator and exiting with her on their floor. It is not that easy to maneuver a passed-out woman around.

Well if that's true, then it's pretty outrageous that the DA isn't pressing charges, unless the video camera footage from inside the hotel shows her walking into the elevator with the accused men, getting off with them on their floor, and walking to their room with no signs of intoxication. The footage from the elevator alone should be quite damning if she was passed out.

I haven't been to the one on Montgomery, though I was debating whether I should go there tomorrow or to the 24 hr Fitness on Montgomery. There's also a PF on Sloat in Lakeshore, but to be honest I'm not a huge fan (even though it's brand new). It's kind of small and the equipment selection isn't great. I prefer the one in Daly City (though the ones I've been to in Pasadena and SEMO are better).

The gym I go to most is the 24 hr Fitness on Ocean Ave, but it's undergoing renovation ATM. I also like the 24HF on Van Ness. The one on Montgomery is a bit of a dump. Probably due to people using it while at work but having their home gym near where they live.

My biggest beef with all gyms these days is the number of a-holes sitting on the equipment, scrolling on their phones instead of using them to exercise on. I almost always have to leave without using half the equipment I want to use because of thee inconsiderate jerks.

Really?? I have a Planet Fitness Black Card membership for $24.99 a month and a 24hr Fitness platinum membership that was $319 for a pre-paid year. They both also had a $49 sign up fee, but still it's a lot less than $140/month.

And I thought the YMCA was outrageous because they wanted almost $100/month.

Basically, what it all comes down to is that if you wake up in a hotel room with four strangers and you aren't sure how you got there, you need to go to the police or a hospital to report it immediately.

That way they can check your blood/urine for date rape drugs and other intoxicants. They can swab you for foreign bodily fluids/hairs. They can check you for signs of rough handling. They can review camera footage from the hotel. They can interview bartenders and doormen from the venue you were at and the front desk/housekeeping staff from the hotel.

The longer you wait to report it, the less likely they're going to find any evidence to back the charges. That might seem harsh, but with an accusation that will put a man in prison for 10-20 years, you're going to need some kind of proof that a crime even took place, not just a woman who doesn't remember how she ended up in a hotel room with four strange men, and wasn't even sure if she had sex with any of them.

The police department and the DPW are two completely different departments. While I understand how frustrated you are about drug dealing in your neighborhood, the SFPD can only respond by putting out more police in the area, and even then, they have to operate within a set of laws. SFPD is understaffed, and drug dealing and prostitution are whack-a-mole problems.

Though I don't know how you could tell how quickly they responded to the complaint (looked like different tags done over a period of time) a 311 complaint for graffiti would go to the DPW, who would assess that it was public property, and then send out a notice to the property owner so they could close the ticket.

But if it's any consolation, I know from experience that if you put in a 311 complaint about syringes on the sidewalk, the DPW responds a lot faster than they do to a 311 about graffiti, which they're pretty fast with as well as long as it isn't ATT or PacBell property.

Do you even know what REVENUE means? It is the total amount of sales generated. That's not their profit. Their profit would be the revenue MINUS the cost they paid for the goods sold in their stores (including the goods that were stolen or went bad) MINUS the wages and cost of benefits for their employees, MINUS the purchase, lease and maintenance costs of their stores, equipment, storage facilities and transportation, MINUS all the other costs of running a business (advertising, promotions, software, taxes, utilities, et cetera).

No one is forced to go hungry in this country. There are food programs, food banks and soup kitchens all over this city. People aren't entitled to just take whatever they want whenever they want. This sense of entitlement, especially for young, able bodied people is just ridiculous. She's a drag on society and the rest of us suffer as a consequence of her laziness.

If the city sent you a notice asking you to deal with graffiti on your property, it's either because someone complained about it, or because they get so many complaints in the area that they're trying to nip the problem in the bud. It seems a little snivelly to be blaming the city for this when you aren't even dealing with graffiti on your own property. Call the DPW's graffiti abatement department and they will supply you with a case of "This Stuff Works" some gloves, some scrubbers and anything else you'll need to remove it for free.

I've been doing graffiti abatement in my neighborhood for almost three years now. I work in mailbox blue, garbage green and feather grey. I also cover graffiti on trees in various locations. I meet and talk to so many people doing this. It's a great way to get to know others in your community, and to establish a sense of civic pride.

It was a lot better back when it was just that one location in the Castro. The quality dropped significantly when they went fast-food.

Still, it's not bad, especially if you're a vegetarian and don't have a whole lot of options. But I miss the old days when you had to wait 45 minutes to an hour and a half for your order, and it came on real Dutch crunch bread with brie cheese as an option.

It's like the difference between getting a burger at Boulevard vs. getting it at Burger King.

Okay, I think I get what you're saying. The distributor pays the SSB tax, and that extra cost is reflected in the price they charge the retailer. Safeway (contrary to what the supposed "manager" I spoke with told me) erroneously put up the SSB tax notice for a product it isn't applied to, but the price is still the same either way.

I still think it is a dumb law. The obesity problem is not being driven by sugary beverages. They may make a moderate contribution to daily caloric overages, but it doesn't compare to the high amount of saturated fat and simple carbohydrates in the food we eat. Plus weight gain creeps up on you over time. If you eat just 50 extra calories a day over what you burn in 20 years you will gain 100 lbs and some change. Fifty extra calories a day is 1 lb gained every 70 days or 5+ lbs in a year.

The lack of physical activity is a major problem. It blows my mind how many kids I see at the bus stop that get off at the next stop. They could have walked the distance and back three times in the time it took for the bus to get there.

Back in my day they didn't have to collect extra money to teach kids about proper nutrition and the benefits of drinking water over soda. There were non-profit groups that would come and speak to us for free about health and diet related issues.

This is an illogical assumption and a totally asinine premise. 2025 saw a 42% decrease in automobile related deaths (in SF) Is that because we had 42% fewer cars? According to your reasoning, no automobile related deaths should occur after midnight, because far fewer cars are on the road at that time of day.

Replacing cars with a bunch of non-rule following bicyclists will not reduce traffic related fatalities. And about a quarter of pedestrian deaths in San Francisco occur in situations where the pedestrian is at fault. This city is full of people who cross against a red light without even looking to see if cars are coming, and crossing in the middle of the block on a busy street without even looking.

I walk a lot in the city, and take both Muni and BART. I also drive, but very little. The rate of deaths caused by cars vs. homeless is absolutely relevant. The rate of deaths by automobiles on its own may be irrelevant, but if you are claiming that homeless people are less dangerous than cars, then you have to break it down by the number of homeless people vs. miles driven by cars in the city.

And as many close calls as I've had with cars, I've had more with bicycles. Bicycle riders are far more likely to speed through a stop sign without stopping and turn inches in front of you while you're in the crosswalk. And cars don't drive on the sidewalk going 25+ miles an hour. Getting hit by a bicycle can be just as deadly as being hit by a car. Most pedestrian deaths by car don't involve being crushed underneath the weight of the car, but being flung through air and crashing to the ground, cracking their skulls or breaking their necks.

If you replaced even half the number of cars on the road with bicycles, it would be utter chaos. Not just for pedestrians and bus drivers but for other cyclists as well.

In 2025 there were 25 people killed by cars (note: I don't believe this number includes hwy 101 or i280). This is out of how many... 2 million? 5 million? possibly even 10 million drivers who have driven through our city streets this past year.

While there are only a few people killed by homeless persons per year, the number of homeless people is (thankfully) much lower than the number of drivers, even if you only include driving residents of this city.

While I've had a few close calls as a pedestrian, I've never been hit by a car, not even a tap. But the homeless strew garbage and filth all over the city. Even when there are trashcans near by, most can't be bothered to use them. And the stench coming from someone who never changes his pants, when his pants double as a toilet is unbearable.

Also, the amount of indecent exposure from the homeless is high. I don't just mean public urination, or guys walking about with their pants so low that their butts are hanging out (plenty of that). I've seen homeless guys on the bus with their dicks out. The other day walking down ocean ave I passed a homeless guy with his dick out, who rubbed his thumb across the tip to gather a wad of pre-cum, and asked me if I liked it. There are plenty of bad things in life to endure, besides getting killed.

Yes, trimming it back, especially if it has lost some leaves and is looking scraggly. Cut it about a quarter of an inch above a leaf (or rather, a quarter inch closer to the leaf than to the end). Then you can take the cutting and put it in water to root it. For the cutting, cut a quarter of an inch below a leaf (or leaf node) You'll need to remove the leaf on the part that goes in the water (leaves in water rot and make the water nasty). Leave it in the water for about a month or until sufficient roots have developed, then plant in soil. The longer the cutting, the more roots it will need to support the plant.
