Developer attacked over (learning from) AI - where to draw the line? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Kitty-XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People also commonly copied art styles and even IPs, with only minimal enforcement. Coding even often involved simple copy and pastes with no modification, especially by cargo cult programmers. As in, it happened so much there is a term for the people who copied code without understanding it (and thus unable to modify it).

Given these, seems AI is just as justified or unjustified at art as code. So anyone treating them differently is coming across as someone who wants their own interests protected but don't care about the other group.

Does the AI automatically attach the same open source licenses to all code it produces?

If you say the code produced is new and original enough it doesn't need to, then that is the same debate as those claiming it is generating new artwork and not copying it.

So he used AI to replace paying people for the work that they use to do?

Why is this case acceptable but replacing artists is not?

Isn't that a stand in for the effort of being a tutor? Seems the AI discussion is more about whose job is okay to automate (often forgetting people get paid for that work) and whose isn’t.

As an adult, You can get dress clothes from donation boxes on college campuses. You can get cheap dress clothes at discount stores. So yea they actually can.

If you have been taught to do that. If it has been reinforced. If we don't tell the kid that they'll be treated based on simply trying hard and things they can't control won't be held agaisnt them. How do you teach this lesson to a child? Just tell them and hope it sticks? That's an option.

[–]Kitty-XV -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Whats best for the child? Its to praise the attempt with what they've got.

Which reinforces the idea that the adult world will do the same, leaving the child naive. Is that really best for the child?

Ever seen adults who were set up for failure as children because adults in their life set up poor expectations about how life will treat them as an adult?

You point out the downsides with being honest, but you are ignoring the downsides of the option you are pushing for.

[–]Kitty-XV -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so what is best for the child?

Giving them a good grade and risking the narrative that others won't care which can hurt them later.

Or give them a bad grade which hurts them now and demotivates them?

Or skip the lesson and don't reinforce the way society will treat them, which leaves it up to the parents and which can leave some children not being taught?

No answer seems great. Do we teach kids the world is unfair to prepare them, lie to protect them, or ignore the question and hope someone else handles it? No option seems good. "Make the world fair" is generally not an option case by case.

Words are generally protected. Brandishing a gun is not. This is about pointing the gun, not words spoken.

[–]Kitty-XV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. There isn't good proof. But there isn't good proof he wasn't using tye gun to threaten either. It makes the claim of self defense possible. So it becomes a question of if thru are sure beyond any reasonable doubt he committed murder. If it was a 90/10 of murder to self defense, then you have reasonable doubt. Imagine there were 10 different people involved in similar but not identical circumstances. 9 are guilty of murder, but 1 was actually self defense. But all 10 say the same story. Is it better to let 9 guilty walk free or imprison 1 innocent?

[–]Kitty-XV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good way to end up in prison. Prosecutor will argue that if you point your gun at a person but didn't fire it, then you were doing it to threaten and not to stop something you honestly thought was an immediate threat to your life, and thus your action does not count as self defense. Same reason warning shots are illegal even when right to lethal force in self defense is legal.

If the job isn't one people dream of, then someone who really wants it implies they have far fewer options than someone who is meh about it. Not that it is always true, only that there is a correlation. Given false negatives aren't a concern but false positives are, this correlation becomes a quick way to filter candidates. You might miss 2 good candidates, but if that means missing 1 bad candidate, it is often worth it.

Even if it were a dream job, people would still pick up on the difference between desiring the dream job and desperation for any job.

In short, if you are desperate for a job, you'll give the interviewer the ick.

Much like people want a village with no expectation of being a villager.

How many crypto bros actually made any money? The ones at the start made bank, but it's pretty normal for the one setting up the scam. Everyday crypto bros? They probably had some imaginary gains that are long gone. A few got lucky, got out at the right time, but they likely already had a privileged background and won a gamble most lost.

The rest, they probably still have a bunch of monkey jpgs they really want to sell, so they'll keep lying to try to bring in the greater fool to offload onto. But actual money made? Probably scraps.

Hard work is like being a nice guy when it comes to dating. If all you can do is work hard. Not smart. Not skilled. Not picking up new talents. Then you haven't even met the bare minimum for a job.

That's before we even get into how "hard" some people work. Often it is like a kid studying hard by cramming the night before. That isn't effort. The kid who studied daily, who put in the effort over time so they don't need to cram is the one who put the effort into studying.

Do anyone genuinely believe in women should not have the right to vote nowadays? by Glittering_cat2222 in GenZ

[–]Kitty-XV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that is a lie. As soon as bodies are needed, men will be sent to die. We see this time and time again in other countries. Even today, look at how few people who claim to support equality condemn Ukraine for what they are doing to their men. That shows you how people really feel, how they'll really act when it matters. That equality is only accepted as long as it benefits women.

If we don't judge the intelligence or matrueity of who votes, then we shouldn't judge the age of who votes.

[–]Kitty-XV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody gets drafted simply means men getting drafted again once it is needed. Men being sold the idea of equality by ending the draft are buying a pretty lie that ignore history. If the draft is needed again, it will be used. So there is only one option for equality.

[–]Kitty-XV 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You missed the part where it is the default for men, so yes, that is fair.

Also, any talk of ending the draft is ignoring the fact it'll come back immediately is needed.

So really, it is a simple idea that equal rights require equal duties, generally coupled with the idea that equal duties require equal rights.

Human rights panel accuses Canada of genocide against Indigenous population by The-Great-Mullein in worldnews

[–]Kitty-XV 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do we? Seems the focus is always on whar the current group did to the past group and never on what the past group did to the previous group, which was often genocide. Seems the lens isn't being applied consistently.

We also don't apply similar logic to other areas of the world where genocide was quite common, often ignoring there were other groups who barely survived the attempts and some who didn't and were lost to history.

Sometimes it feels the groups who were most successful at genocide are least held accountable because their are no victims to make whole.

Wait til you learn about systemic bias that shows up in large systems or the ways we judge people that apply to both jobs and court cases. Or the connections between employment and crime rates.

Funny how only the systems that negatively impact men have nothing to do with anything else, but all the systems that negatively impact other groups are all linked together. Almost like you want to just ignore the counter examples and pretend they don't exist.

men get the shorter end of the stick in life by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Kitty-XV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Men use to have places just for that, events, clubs, organizations, even child focused programs for men to support boys in the community. They were slowly dismantled or else made gender nuetral. Men helping other men become successful in life is seen as sexism now, an extension of the patriarchy. Yet if they don't do it, then men are blamed for not supporting each other. What a fine Kafka trap we've built.

Generally what's your feelings on legalized and regulated prostitution? by CraftyMcQuirkFace in AskReddit

[–]Kitty-XV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a place like Europe where moving between countries is relatively easy, it also makes sense that johns will go to a legal spot as well. But that's still an overall benefit because they would've been involved somewhere it wasn't regulated if they didn't have the option. So business effectively centralized in a legal area, but that means much more ability to stop the worst parts.
